André Striegel has a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, both from the University of New Orleans, with subsequent postdoctoral experience at the US Department of Agriculture’s National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research.

André has worked in the field of macromolecular separation science for over three decades. He has published nearly 100 papers in the field, and has given even more invited presentations. He was previously lead co-author for the second edition of "Modern Size-Exclusion Liquid Chromatography" (Wiley, 2009), leading a complete rewrite of that classic book, and editor of "Multiple Detection in Size-Exclusion Chromatography" (ACS, 2005). Since 2015 he has been Scientific Editor of the journal Chromatographia (Springer Nature) and is also past Associate Editor of the Encyclopedia of Analytical Chemistry. He is or has been on the editorial boards of several analytical, separations, and polymer journals. He routinely teaches short courses on macromolecular separations science at international meetings and has organized or co-organized a number of national and international meetings in macromolecular separations and related fields. André is the recipient of a number of scientific awards and was also inaugural Professor in Residence for Preservation Research and Testing at the US Library of Congress.

André’s work experience includes 6 years with a multi-billion dollar chemical company (Solutia, now part of Eastman Chemical); 7 years as assistant professor, tenure track, at Florida State University, where he taught undergraduate analytical chemistry and graduate courses in both chemical and macromolecular separations as well as in polymer characterization and physical properties and where he was a charter member of the materials chemistry division. André is currently Scientific Advisor in the Chemical Sciences Division of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), where he has worked since 2011.
