Dr. B.N. Asthana graduated in Civil Engineering from University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee) in 1960 and joined Irrigation Department UP as Assistant Engineer and retired as Chief Engineer (Design and Research) in 1997. During service, he did M.E. (Water Resources) from UOR and Ph.D. from IIT Delhi. During service in Irrigation Department, he worked in different capacities on planning, design and research of various water resources and hydro power projects of U.P. After retirement, he had an assignment for teaching hydro power and associated subjects in the department of Water Resources Development and Management, IIT Roorkee, as Emeritus Fellow/Visiting Professor/Guest Faculty for more than ten years. He guided research and design of hydro power consultancy projects at IIT Roorkee. He was also engaged for about five years as Visiting Faculty at AHEC, IIT Roorkee, to teach the subject of small hydro power to graduate students.
