Matthew Allen was born and raised in rural british Columbia, Canada. He was educated at Queen's university (Kingston) and The University of British Columbia where he earned a Ph.D. in English (Renaissace Literature) and won a Research Council of Canada Fellowship. Previous publications include articles on renaissance literature, pedagogical theory, and collection of poetry and photographs, The Luster of Everyday Things, both available online. Dr. Allen has longstanding interests in ooking and Tai Chi, and lives with his wife Maria del Pilar Ferradas in Lima, Peru, where he is Director General of the center of Language Studies at Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola.
