I was born in Vienna, in 1936. My parents, with my baby sister and myself, left shortly after the Anschluss, two years later, and we settled in Argentina, where I have lived ever since. I completed secondary school, eager to enter the Buenos Aires University's School of Philosophy; but I gave it up after a couple of years; not interest in an academic career. Later, I found a short stint as a mature student at S.I.U., in the U.S. in 1970, similarly unenccouraging. Ideological feuding in the acadmic sense did not appeal to me. And it still does not. Professionally, I started out doing written and simultaneous translation. My first assignment, at 18, was editing an encyclopedia in Spanish, from sources in English. In the 1990s, I did translations from English into Spanish for Washington based multilateral institutions at international conferences and also for local publishers of fiction. Most of my adult life I was a schoolmaster, in the English language binational school system, in Buenos Aires, in which I had grown up with three lsnguages: English, German and Spanish. With a wife and three children at an early age, I was able to make my way, undertking a variety of sidelines, unrelated to education and language skills. After retiring, in 2001, I finally found time to devote myself to my long deferred commitment to writing, which I had been doing since 1970, on and off; though only having begun publishing as a millenial. Since, I have produced eight books, including short stories, satirical skits, a black humour novel and four volumes of essays, mainly critiques referring to matters of current interest. It is my pleasure to see how it goes with this book, which is my one but last effort.
