"R. G. "Wick" Alexander, DDS, MSD, is a Clinical Professor of Orthodontics at Baylor College of Dentistry, the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston, and New York University. In addition, he maintains a private practice with his son Moody in Arlington, Texas. In the 1980s, Dr Alexander established a large worldwide following when he introduced a new bracket system in conjunction with a set of innovative treatment techniques and principles that later became known as the Alexander Discipline. His best-selling textbook of the same name (Ormco, 1987) described many of these concepts when they were still in their infancy. In the 20 years since, Dr Alexander has engaged in research that today provides a solid evidence-based foundation for his techniques, which have been extensively tested and refined. This book presents the Alexander Discipline in the form of 20 principles that integrate theory with technique. Dr Alexander is the recipient of many prestigious awards in orthodontics, including the Milo Hellman Research Award, given by the American Association of Orthodontics for his study on scoliosis and the Milwaukee brace; the C.T. Rowland Award and the A.P. Westfall Award, both for outstanding orthodontic proficiency; and the first Dental Clinical Orthodontic Award from the AAO in recognition of his contribution to orthodontic literature, among many others."
