Sidney H. Griffith (1938) es profesor emérito del Departamento de Lengua y Literatura Semítica y Egipcia de la Universidad Católica de Washington. Fue director del programa de posgrado de estudios sobre cristianismo antiguo en esa misma universidad. Sus áreas de especialidad son el cristianismo árabe, el monasticismo siriaco, las relaciones entre cristianos y musulmanes, el ecumenismo y el diálogo interreligioso. Sobre estos temas ha publicado una cantidad considerable de artículos y capítulos de libros. Entre sus publicaciones está la edición y traducción del tratado de Yahya ibn 'Adi, The Reformation of Morals (Brigham Young University Press, 2002), The Bible in Arabic: The Scriptures of the "People of the Book" in the Language of Islam (Jews, Christians, and Muslims from the Ancient to the Modern World) (Princeton University Press, 2015) y el libro cuya traducción aquí presentamos, The Church in the Shadow of the Mosque (Princeton University Press, 2010).
