Prof. Yongquan Zhang is Distinguished Professor of Zhejiang University, Doctoral Supervisor and Director of Dunhuang Studies in Zhejiang Province. He is also Vice Chairman of the China Characters Society and the China Society of Dunhuang and Tuluofan Studies; Member of the China Language Society; Chairman of the Zhejiang Language Society; Visiting Professor at Sichuan University. As one of Zhejiang Province’s leading experts, he receives the Special Government Allowance from the State Council of China and is among the top candidates for the “National Talents Project” of China. His research focuses on Chinese characters and languages, and he was awarded the first and second prizes by the Ministry of Education of China, as well as several other honors such as the Husheng Academic Prize for Youths and over ten Nomination Awards for his monographs. His successful magnum opus A Study of Dunhuang Folk Characters, together with Key Factors of Patching up Fragmentary Dunhuang Buddhist Scripture, is highly regarded both at home and abroad.
