“Beep Beep Beep.” I woke up with a start. Where was I? More importantly, who am I? What is that furry living little fellow sleeping next to me? I look around the room. I saw a sign above my bed with the name Vanessa. That sounds familiar. I see a collar with a tag on the animal with the name Oscar. That’s a nice name. The room, which I think is my room, is painted with a light lavender color. The living creature was brown in color. As I thought about the animal, my memories come back in flashes. I found out that this happens often, especially when I just wake up. Most people get confused when they wake up. I remember that my name is Vanessa, that my religion was Christian, I lived in a house located in Catawba Street, North Carolina, and the furry animal is Oscar. Oscar. Did I adopt him? Staring at Oscar, it took me back to 5 days ago, when I first saw him. I was walking to school when I saw a poodle. He had a skinny belly, and he was always scampering around, looking for food. Every time I saw him, I felt really sorry for the cute little guy. One day I couldn’t take it anymore, so I took him home and named him Oscar. At first my mom was furious at me, since I didn’t ask for permission to keep him, but once she saw how sweet he was and how much he needed me, she let him stay. I snapped out of my memories. One glance at the clock next to my bed and I leap out of bed, trying not to wake Oscar up. My clock read 7:30, which meant that I was late for school! Oh no! I threw on my clothes and swung open my bedroom door.
In an instant, Oscar appeared by my side and said: “Silly Vanessa, you don’t have school today. It’s a Sunday, remember? Oh and since you’re awake, can I have some doggy biscuits?” Did I mention that Oscar was a talking dog? No? Whoops, how forgetful of me.
“Thanks for reminding me Oscar! Now about those doggy biscuits, tell me, what the magic word is again?” I asked.
“Please!” Oscar whined in my ear.
“Fine, since you asked so nicely.” I replied.
I went downstairs, with Oscar happily trailing behind me. As I poured doggy biscuits into a bowl for Oscar, I heard my mom come down the stairs.
“Good morning, Vanessa.” My mom said cheerfully. “You finally woke up! Are you hungry? Would you like a delicious breakfast?”
“Yeah, thanks mom.” I’ll have some bacon, eggs, pancakes with maple syrup on top and a glass of orange juice please.” I replied.
“No problem!” Said my mom.
As we ate our breakfasts, I thought about what I should do with Oscar today as I read the newspaper. I decided to ask if Oscar wanted to go on a run with me. After all, I usually go on a run in the mornings. I’ll plan the rest of the day later. The local newspaper talked about a bank, called the Christopher Bank, having money stolen last night during midnight. It seems that this happens a lot these days. What’s up with those robbers?
Once we finished our breakfasts, I walked to Oscar and asked: “Would you like to go on a run with me, Oscar?”
“Hooray!” Oscar cheered.
“Great!” I replied. “Just let me go get changed into my running clothes and I’ll be down in a jiffy.”
I ran upstairs to my bedroom, changed as quickly as I could, and ran back downstairs. Oscar was bouncing all around, he could hardly sit still.
“Come on! What took you so long?” Oscar cried. “You’re such a slowpoke!”
“No you are!” I retorted. “Now go get your leash so that we can go!” I ordered Oscar.
“Why do I always get the leash? Can’t you do it yourself, miss lazybones?” Oscar complained. I just simply gave him my evil eye.
