Giuliard was a manager of a large bank in the capital. Impeccable suit, imported car, international trips twice a year. In the eyes of all, he was a successful man. Yet beneath the surface, an issue was emerging: his expenses exceeded his income.
He and his wife lived in expensive restaurants, changed cars like changing clothes, bought objects that they did not even use. Each trip was financed on the card; each whim became a parcel. And, as with those who ignore limits, one day the bill arrived.
Debts piled up, the limit exceeded, the bank charged. Giuliard, who advised clients on finances, now could not control his own.
Meanwhile, Estefanny, the housemaid, earned only three hundred dollars a month, enough to pay for rent, water, electricity, and basic food. Nothing was left — or at least that was what anyone would think.
But Estefanny had a simple secret: discipline. Every month, without fail, she set aside a hundred dollars to invest. It did not matter if it rained, if the gas increased, if the bus was delayed. She invested first, adjusted the rest later.
She did not have a car, she did not have trips, she did not have luxury. But there was something Giuliard did not have: control.
One afternoon, while cleaning the office, Estefanny found Giuliard sitting, head down, staring at a stack of bills. He looked smaller than the suit he was wearing.
"Is everything okay, Mr. Giuliard?" She asked carefully.
He sighed deeply.
"No, Estefanny... I am deep in debt. I do not know how I got to this point.
She hesitated but decided to speak.
"Can I say something, without wanting to be disrespectful?"
"Of course," he replied, without strength.
"You live as if you had ten times what you really earn. I live with little..., but I live within what I can. And I save a little bit every month. It is not much, but it grows.
Giuliard looked up in surprise.
"You... Invest?
"Yes, sir. One hundred dollars a month. It has been a few years now.
He was silent. For the first time, he realized that the maid, with a much lower salary, was building something he never could: stability.
That conversation kept hammering in Giuliard's head. He began to cut spending, sell assets, and renegotiate debts. For the first time, he made a real budget. And, inspired by Estefanny, he began to invest — little, but constantly.
