Europeanization describes the processes and results which influence the member states of the European Union and the European Union itself. Changes because of this process are possible in all political areas. The first part of this paper describes the concept of Europeanization and three important areas: - Europeanization of organisational structures, - Europeanization of political environment and condition and - Europeanization of content. An introduction of the German party system follows in the next part. This shows the development of the German parties after the second World War and the importance of Europe for their identity. The fourth part describes the Europeanization of the German party system in the areas which were mentioned previously. In particular changes in the organisational structure of the German political parties and the development of the European Political Parties are discussed. Furthermore new developments in the election process, changes in the party structure and the legal aspects concerning this as a result of Europeanization of the political environment will be analysed. Finally the impact of Europeanization on the programs and goals of the political parties will be described.
