CHAPTER ONE
Introduction
“When it's dark, you got to be the light.”
— DJ Khaled
The young Khaled Mohammed Khaled did not start with the support he is receiving right now. He started with his small and the very root of his support system, which is his family. Along with his family, he went from place to place in order to survive, from Palestine to New Orleans, to Miami, back to New Orleans and so on. He also witnessed a lot of miseries while living their life in poverty. He saw how his parents crawled them out of scarcity, even if it meant they had to work for the whole week without a rest day.
However, his parents are not the only ones who experience hardships. The young Khaled was not spared as well. Before he was discovered by Fat Joe, DJ Khaled used to work at a record store, hoping his talent would be appreciated by calling some record labels in New York using his boss' landline. Then a few years after that, he became a radio personality at a radio station, where he got recognized and scouted by Fat Joe. During these years, he also struggled to find apartments that would not kick him out for being too loud. This is the same problem he faced when he was still in their house in New Orleans.
