Start and end each day with a smile.
Good Morning and Good Night offers simple, yet powerful messages of love, kindness, and courage, perfect for kids like you.
Learn how God’s love makes it easier to share, pray, help others, and be brave. Each day includes a morning and evening thought, a Bible verse, and a short prayer. Grow in your faith and discover how you can make the world brighter—one small step at a time.
In the morning let me hear about your faithful love, because I’ve put my trust in you.
PSALM 143:8 NIRV
“I have told you these things so that you can have the same joy I have. I want your joy to be the fullest joy.”
JOHN 15:11 ICB
Today starts a new year. God wants this year to be full of joy for you. Every morning you wake up and each night you go to sleep, he wants you to have joy. When joy feels far away, ask God for more. He has so much joy to give you.
What did you find joy in today? As you go to sleep, think about all the times you smiled and laughed. God was with you in those moments. He loves to make you happy.
Dear God, please help me to be full of joy.
LORD, you bless those who do what is right. Like a shield, your loving care keeps them safe.
PSALM 5:12 NIRV
It is hard to always make the right choice. When it feels hard to obey, remember God is happy when you obey. His love will protect you like a big, strong shield that a soldier would use.
God blessed you today when you made the right choice. He is proud of you! What good choice can you make tomorrow?
Jesus, please help me to make the right choices.
The Lord is my shepherd. I have everything I need.
PSALM 23:1 ICB
The Bible says God is your shepherd. A shepherd gives his sheep water, food, and protection. Just like all sheep need a shepherd, you need God. He will always give you what you need.
Did you think about the sheep today? During your day, God was with you. He protected you. He made sure you had food in your belly and a home to live in. As you sleep tonight, he will watch over you.
Thank you, God, for being the best shepherd!
The Lord said to me, “My grace is enough for you. When you are weak, then my power is made perfect in you.”
2 CORINTHIANS 12:9 ICB
God’s grace is for you. When you make a mistake, he forgives you. He cares for you. If you make a mistake today, you can say, “I am weak, but God is strong. I will praise him all day long.”
Even if you made lots of mistakes today, God’s grace is still for you. God will help you get stronger and stronger. He loves you!
Dear God, please help me to ask for your help when I am weak.
We have troubles all around us, but we are not defeated. We do not know what to do, but we do not give up.
2 CORINTHIANS 4:8 ICB
Hard things can happen in your life. You might fall off your bike and get hurt. Someone might not use kind words. When you are sad, you can talk to God. He makes you brave and strong.
God gave you courage and strength today. You didn’t give up even when things were hard. God has a big plan for your life!
Dear God, please help me to be brave when things are hard.
“I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper. He will give you this Helper to be with you forever.”
JOHN 15:16 ICB
When Jesus went back to heaven, he didn’t want you to be alone. God sent the Holy Spirit, your helper, to live inside of your heart. You have Jesus with you wherever you go!
Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would be with you forever. Did you go anywhere today? Jesus was with you! He will be in your heart always.
Dear God, thank you for sending Jesus to be in my heart!
“You are the light that gives light to the world. A city that is built on a hill cannot be hidden.”
MATTHEW 5:14 ICB
Did you know that Jesus calls you the light of the world? You are a bright light. You can show others the love of Jesus. You can do this by being kind and helpful.
Did you let your light shine for Jesus today? You might have smiled at someone or shared your toy. God’s light will always be inside you wherever you go.
Dear Jesus, please help me to be a light in all I do.
God looked at everything he had made, and it was very good.
GENESIS 1:31 ICB
God made the tall mountains and the tiny flowers. He made the birds in the sky and the fish in the sea. God said that everything he created was good, including you. The world is filled with beautiful things, and God made them all.
What did you find today? Did you see any animals or plants? God loves when we spend time looking at his wonderful creation. He loves it even more when we thank him for all he has made.
Thank you, God, for creating a beautiful world for me to live in.
“I have put my rainbow in the clouds. It will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.”
GENESIS 9:13 NIRV
Covenant is a big word! A covenant is a promise. In the Bible, God made it rain so much the whole earth flooded. He did this because there was lots of sin. We still sin, but God tells us he will not flood the whole earth again. You can see God’s promise is true by looking at a rainbow.
Did you see a rainbow today? Try to look for one the next time it rains. God set the rainbow in the sky to tell us he will always keep his promises to us. He will protect us!
Thank you, God, for always keeping your promises.
He said to his disciples, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t keep them away. God’s kingdom belongs to people like them.”
MARK 10:14 NIRV
In the Bible, Jesus always wanted to be with children. He had a special place in his heart for all children, just like he has a special place for you. When people tried to stop little children from seeing Jesus, it made him sad. He wanted to hold and bless them.
You mean something to Jesus. You can encourage those around you just by being you! Jesus loves you. He knows your name. He wants to spend time with you. How can you show Jesus love?
Thank you, Jesus, for loving me!
“Don’t be afraid. Can I do what only God can do? You meant to hurt me. But God turned your evil into good.” Joseph comforted his brothers and spoke kind words to them.
GENESIS 50:19, 21 ICB
Joseph’s brothers were jealous because his father gave him a special coat. They sent Joseph to be a slave in Egypt. God blessed Joseph. God had a big plan to use Joseph to save many people. Years later, Joseph’s brothers came to Egypt. Instead of being angry, Joseph forgave them.
Joseph could have been mad at his brothers, but he chose to forgive them. He fed them, cared for them, and was kind to them. How can you be like Joseph?
God, please help me to forgive those who hurt me.
“You believe because you see me. Those who believe without seeing me will be truly happy.”
JOHN 20:29 ICB
People used to see Jesus with their eyes. Thomas, a disciple, only believed Jesus was alive because he could see him. Jesus told Thomas that people who believe in him without seeing will be even happier. Do you believe in Jesus?
Thomas needed to see Jesus to believe he was alive. You don’t! You believe in Jesus even though you can’t see him with your eyes. It is so special to know Jesus without seeing him.
Dear Jesus, thank you for living in my heart!
Here is the message we have heard from God and now tell to you: God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all.
1 JOHN 1:5 ICB
God is light. There is no darkness or evil in God. He is filled with goodness. God lives inside of you, so you also have no darkness. You are light because God lives in you.
God wants every person to be filled with his light. You already have his light. You can help others have his light too. How can you share God’s light with others?
Dear God, please help me to shine your light for others to see.
God created human beings in his image.
GENESIS 1:27 ICB
God is perfect. He is always patient, gentle, and kind. When God created you, he made you in his image. He wants you to be patient, gentle, and kind like he is. It is hard work, but God gave you his Holy Spirit to help you. Can you ask the Holy Spirit to help you today?
God loves you so much. He wants you to be just like him. Today you practiced being patient, gentle, and kind. The more you practice, the more you will look like him!
Dear God, please help me to be patient, gentle, and kind every day.
Abram built an altar there to honor the Lord, who had appeared to him.
GENESIS 12:7 NIRV
In the Bible, people built altars to honor God. You can honor God by thanking him. You can thank him for all that he gives to you. What are you thankful for?
It is important to thank God. When you thank God, he smiles, and you smile. Your heart is filled with joy.
Dear God, I am so thankful for you!
Dear children, don’t just talk about love. Put your love into action. Then it will truly be love.
1 JOHN 3:18 NIRV
True love is shown by actions. A loving action can be a hug, kiss, smile, or helping hand. You have a special mission. You get to make someone smile! What loving action are you going to do today?
What loving action did you choose? Did your heart feel happy? You make God happy when you show love to others.
Dear Jesus, please help me to put my love into action.
Don’t forget to do good. Don’t forget to share with others. God is pleased with those kinds of offerings.
Hebrews 13:16 nìrv
Let’s pretend that you got two new toys at the store. When you got home, your sister wanted to play with you. You wanted to play with both toys, but you decided to share. Your sister has a big smile on her face. You made her happy. Now you feel happy too.
The Bible says sharing is good. God likes it when you share with others. Did you share anything today? How did it make you feel?
Dear God, please help me do good by sharing with others.
“Then you will call my name. You will come to me and pray to me. And I will listen to you.”
JEREMIAH 29:12 ICB
Did you know that God is always listening to you? He loves to hear from you. Practice praying to God now. You can say, “Dear God, here I am. Thank you for always listening to me.” You can pray for a long time or a short time.
Each night before you go to bed, pray to God. You can talk to him about anything. Share about your day. Tell him what you had for dinner. God is happy to listen. You are special to him.
Dear God, I am here. Thank you for always listening to me.
If one of you is having troubles, he should pray. If one of you is happy, he should sing praises.
JAMES 5:13 ICB
Some days might be full of trouble. You might have a hard time listening. You might keep making silly mistakes. The Bible tells you to pray. God will help you.
Some days might be full of happiness. You might get a special treat. You might go on a fun adventure. The Bible says to sing praises. God gives us every good thing. Can you thank God for the good things you have?
Dear God, please help me to be full of prayer and praise.
Every good action and every perfect gift is from God. These good gifts come down from the Creator of the sun, moon, and stars. God does not change like their shifting shadows.
JAMES 1:17 ICB
Everything around you changes. The moon gets bigger and smaller. The sun comes and goes. You change too! Your hair grows longer. You get taller! God does not change. He will always be the same. He will always be good.
Every good thing you have is from God. God only gives good and perfect gifts to you. That will never change because he never changes. He will always be good and kind.
Thank you, God, that you never change!
Give praise to the God who is able to keep you from falling into sin. He will bring you into his heavenly glory without any fault. He will bring you there with great joy.
JUDE 1:24 NIRV
You need God’s power to help you not to sin. God is strong. He sent his Son, Jesus, to die for your sin. Jesus wiped all your sin away. God wants to live with you forever in heaven.
As you go to sleep tonight, think about heaven. In heaven, you will always be happy. God is excited for you to be with him one day. His love for you never ends!
Thank you, God, that I will be with you forever in heaven!
