Freelance journalist Martyr is sent to Gorgona Island by his publisher, where rumors about a huge flow and concentration of jellyfish on site are capturing Influential Authorities' attention. The three of them, who establish a relationship in the days to follow, come across unsettling facts about Gorgona, and Commander Segevarje is involved too (management director of the frogmen, who discretely patrol the Tuscan Archipelago): the latter, always wearing a diving mask and snorkel to hide his identity, reports a terrible occurrence has happened on the island, because of which a few males were turned into stone. Was it the jellyfish... or Medusa herself ? In a smooth and gripping succession of twists and turns, Gorgona Island is the scene of a power and drug scheme which, once more, leads beyond the author's fine eroticism and jaunty irony.

That was definitely a hot summer. I remember that, after completing a summary regarding oral sex simulacrums, extremely enhanced by the propaganda of creative minds, my publisher called me as I was urgently expected in Gorgona: the tiniest pearl of the Tuscan archipelago had recently witnessed a breathtaking sea occurrence, due to a massive jellyfish movement down the sides of a scalene triangle, the southernmost apexes of which were to be found on the northern end of Cap Corse and at the top of Zenobito Tower on Capraia Island.
“My dear Martyr...” he said, with no chance for me to utter a word, “... on Gorgona Island something increbible that I can't figure out is taking place right now: there are rumors about a great number of jellyfish, far more than your philosophy might conceive, but according to the records in my possession, as numerous as the jellyfish, nothing relevant pops up. I mean, dear Martyr, the numbers of the jelly-like part are unchanged as compared to last year. Therefore I'm wondering: why our Influential Authorities invited none other than Doctor Julia Bonnie Wogecrasher, young researcher at Elbow University, world-renowned marine biologist, true expert in the jelly-like elements (jellyfish, ctenophores and tunicates) to the island? Why did they ask for Doctor Froggy Dauphine (whose name, or surname, is still unclear), unquestionable specialist in raw state stones in an aquatic environment, and not, to get to Gorgona straight away, accompanied on the sly by Commander Segevarje, frogmen's management director, who stealthily patrol the Tuscan Archipelago coasts, so as to make them off-limits to anyone, except to those authorized? You've witnessed unique events, dear Martyr: I want you to go to Gorgona to check out the ground and water surface, as well as marine depths. Our Influential Authorities have already been informed of your arrival, so that they won't shoot you, at the mere sight of you (as you well know, navigation, fishing, anchoring, bathing and viewing from a distance of less than three nautical miles, are banned on the island, owing to the presence of a penal colony). Don't come back until you know what's in the air: if something is, it isn't jelly. There are no Chinese to be found on the island.”
So I prepared for my mission by packing light in water-resistant bag: on Gorgona Island I was likely to find everything I needed to work and live Mediterranean style.
