WRITING A NOVEL

The following guide will be very helpful when writing a fiction book such as a novel:

1. Write out the name of every chapter for your book. Next, decide what you want to cover in each chapter. That way you will always know where you are going with the story. Writing concerning your characters at the beginning, too, can be very helpful down the road. You can utilize bullet points.

2. Understand essentials of a good novel. If you want to be a thriving writer, think twice concerning taking creative writing as your course in college (unless you have already done so); as an alternative, take English Literature. You need to know how you can read with discernment and a decisive eye before you put down anything. Sentence structure, plot formation, character distinction, and character personality growth all fall into place if you understand how to read decisively before you write.

● Setting. The setting of any book is the place, time, and circumstances in which such a story takes place. You don't need to state this outright, of course. Like a painter may do, you create an awesome picture in the mind of your reader via painting around the subject.

For example: Maria walked down a steep slope surrounding the castle. Before she could get much far, one of her father's maids halted her and said, "King Ferdinand wants to see you." This may imply that Maria, possibly a young girl, resides on castle grounds. This would give the reader hints that the book might have taken place in medieval times. Maria is also a Latin name, which might suggest where she lives, and surely "King Ferdinand" is a giant clue! Actually, the wife of King Ferdinand, Isabel of Castile approved and solely funded Christopher Columbus's voyage to New World in about A.D. 1492, therefore this story possibly takes place around that time.

Characters.

Every story has minor and major characters. It's vital that you make yours attractive and introduce them correctly. Introducing the setting and maybe yet the characters, is referred to as the exposition.

There are several kinds of characters that lots of books have. The protagonist is typically a main character and that which the book follows. For every protagonist, there is habitually an antagonist, the character who offers the friction such story needs to proceed. The villains in most books are commonly antagonists, though not always.

Keep this in your mind: most often, one man's villain is most likely another man's hero. Regardless of the typical roles they play, these character types are imperative to make your story successful.

The conflict.

A conflict is a big problem that a character unavoidably faces, usually the reason for the main story to exist in the first place.

Probably Maria, the King's daughter, has been told to make the decision whether to allow Columbus use Spanish ships, and sailors for his adventures. She may continue to encounter this problem for the most part of the story.

The climax.

The climax is the peak of highest tension in the book, the point that the reader is actually holding their breath.

Perhaps Maria has just resolute against allowing Columbus use Spain's money to survey when he shows up, pleading with her to let him go, and saying he'll do anything to get this chance. This is the very point where Maria has a major choice to make, one that determines the entire outcome of the story.

The resolution.

The climax is over, the emanating problem has been solved, and whatever loose ends have been tied up. Note: if you plan to make a sequel, leave as a minimum one or two loose ends unsettled.
