Jesus First is a fun and engaging devotional book designed to help you put Jesus at the center of your life. This book helps you understand why it’s best to put Jesus first in every situation.
Each day, your heart will discover how to love God, serve others, and grow in your faith through Bible verses, devotions, and prayers. Whether you’re at school, at home, or with friends, Jesus First encourages you to live with kindness, courage, and joy, always keeping Jesus as your guide.
With the loving mercy of our God, a new day from heaven will dawn upon us.
LUKE 1:78 NCV
God has great mercy, and because of his mercy he gave us a new life. He gave us a living hope because Jesus Christ rose from death.
1 PETER 1:3 ICB
When Jesus rose from the dead, he destroyed the power of sin in your life. You are free to live without fear or shame. Every mistake you make is taken care of when you give it to Jesus.
Jesus is full of mercy. This means that he doesn’t punish you even if you deserve it. Instead, he forgives you whenever you ask. He wants you to share your whole heart with him. He loves to give you mercy!
Jesus, thank you for your mercy that frees me from the power of sin and offers me forgiveness.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is the Father who is full of mercy. And he is the God of all comfort.
2 CORINTHIANS 1:3 ICB
God is compassionate. That means he cares about your feelings and experiences. He notices you, and he is interested in your life. He loves to share your joy, and he comforts you when you are sad.
Do you need comfort today? Is there something you are sad about? God is ready to show you love and compassion. He wants to comfort you. Tell him what makes you sad and share your feelings with him.
Jesus, I need your love and comfort today for the things I am sad about.
Jesus has the power of God. His power has given us everything we need to live and to serve God. We have these things because we know him.
2 PETER 1:3 ICB
Jesus has the power to give you everything you need to live a life that is pleasing to God. Following God is not supposed to be stressful or impossible. He doesn’t ask you to do everything perfectly, and he isn’t mad when you have a hard time.
God wants a relationship with you more than anything else. He wants you to spend time with him, and he wants you to know how much he loves you.
Jesus, give me what I need today to serve you. Fill me with your love and help me trust in Jesus.
God made us free from the power of darkness, and he brought us into the kingdom of his dear Son.
COLOSSIANS 1:13 ICB
None of us can set ourselves free from sin. Jesus is the only one who is strong enough to take our sin and completely get rid of it. His death and resurrection are the reason we can live in light instead of darkness.
You get to decide if you will trust Jesus for freedom or not. When you do, God rejoices. He loves it when his children choose to trust him. He is so happy when you ask for forgiveness and follow him.
God, thank you for sending Jesus to take my sin. Help me remember that you offer me freedom every day.
The Son reflects the glory of God and shows exactly what God is like. He holds everything together with his powerful word.
HEBREWS 1:3 NCV
Jesus left Heaven to become a man and show us what God is like. His actions and words taught us that God is loving, powerful, and kind. He taught us that God loves to heal, encourage, and comfort people.
Jesus told people that his power came from God. He gave God the glory for the amazing things he did. He was humble, and he did not brag. When God helps you do something amazing, be sure to give him the glory.
God, help me show others who you are and the amazing things you can do.
In Jesus you have been blessed in every way, in all your speaking and in all your knowledge.
1 CORINTHIANS 1:5 ICB
God has given you so many gifts and blessings. The Bible says you are rich because of Jesus. The more you understand his love, the more you will see how good he is.
As you learn about God’s riches, you can share them with other people. The words you say and how you act can teach others about the goodness of God. You can use your voice to share joy, kindness, and encouragement.
Jesus, thank you for blessing me in so many ways. May my words show your love to others.
Because you have these blessings, do your best to add these things to your lives: to your faith, add goodness; and to your goodness, add knowledge.
2 PETER 1:5 NCV
God wants your heart to grow closer to him, and he wants you to become more like him. He tells you to add goodness to your faith. This means that believing in Jesus comes first, and trying to be kind to others comes next.
God doesn’t expect you to be perfect, but he wants you to try doing good things. You can live out your faith in big and small ways. It doesn’t have to be complicated or difficult. Every day is filled with chances to share God’s love with others.
God, show me how I can share your love with someone today. Teach me how to love like you.
You have this faith and love because of your hope, and what you hope for is saved for you in heaven. You learned about this hope when you heard the true teaching, the Good News.
COLOSSIANS 1:5 ICB
Your greatest treasure is saved for you in heaven. Saying yes to Jesus means that you will spend forever with him in heaven. He loves you so much and he wants to be with you.
When you have a hard day, remember that your hope is in heaven. None of your problems will last forever, and God will give you strength to face the day. He will encourage you when you are having a difficult time.
God, thank you for the treasure I have in heaven. Help me be strong and to follow you well.
He decided long ago to adopt us. He adopted us as his children with all the rights children have. He did it because of what Jesus Christ has done. It pleased God to do it.
EPHESIANS 1:5 NIRV
God had a plan for your life before you were born. He chose you, and you are deeply loved. Your heavenly Father is proud of you, and he loves that you are his child.
You are a child of the King. Be proud of who you are and how God made you. He has so many good things in store for you. He wants you to know how much he loves you, and he wants to be close to you all the time.
God, remind me that I am your child when I start to feel shy or afraid. Thank you for including me in your family.
If any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. God is generous. He enjoys giving to all people, so God will give you wisdom.
JAMES 1:5 ICB
When you don’t know what to do, who do you go to for help? Don’t forget that God always wants to help you. He is generous, and he enjoys sharing his wisdom with you. He wants you to know that he is always on your side.
As a child of God, you can go to him at any time and for anything. You can ask for whatever you need. He loves to give good gifts to his children, and he’s always willing to help you.
God, please give me wisdom to know what to do and what not to do. Thank you for helping me when I ask.
Let wise people listen and add to what they have learned. Let those who understand what is right get guidance.
PROVERBS 1:5 NIRV
It’s important to respect the people in your life who are older and wiser. No matter how old you get, there will always be someone who has more experience than you.
God put people in your life to teach and guide you. It’s good to admit that you need help and can’t do everything on your own. Your parents, teachers, and older family members are a gift and a blessing.
God, help me respect the wise people in my life. Keep me from trying to do everything alone.
Trust God all the time.
Tell him all your problems.
God is our protection.
PSALM 62:8 ICB
Each day is filled with new reasons to trust God. You might face a problem you’ve never experienced, or you might need help dealing with big emotions. No matter what happens, God is there to help you.
God wants to walk with you every day. He cares about each part of your life, and he wants you to know you are never alone. Tell him your problems and trust that he is ready and willing to show up for you.
God, thank you for helping me when I ask. Nothing is too big for you to handle. Teach me how to trust you more.
God began doing a good work in you. And he will continue it until it is finished when Jesus Christ comes again. I am sure of that.
PHILIPPIANS 1:6 ICB
When you chose to follow Jesus, God began a good work in you. He promises to keep helping and guiding you for all your days. He will never leave you, and he will never stop loving you.
If you let him, Jesus will be your partner, friend, and teacher for the rest of your life. He will never give up on you. He holds your life in his hands, and you can trust him to lead you through whatever you might face.
God, it is exciting to know that you are doing good things in my life. Thank you for being with me every step of the way.
God gave us his Spirit. And the Spirit doesn’t make us weak and fearful. Instead, the Spirit gives us power and love.
2 TIMOTHY 1:7 NIRV
Fear is not from God. The devil wants you to be afraid. He wants you to worry, feel stressed, and give up on God’s promises. When you feel afraid, remember that God offers to help you.
God gives you the power to be brave. He helps you control your thoughts when worry creeps in. Instead of feeling anxious, give your worries to God. His Holy Spirit will bring peace to your heart and mind.
God, I give you my fear today. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and give me strength.
Who are you to judge your brother or sister? Why do you act like you’re better than they are? We will all stand in God’s courtroom to be judged.
ROMANS 14:10 NIRV
Judging someone else is when you decide if their actions are right or wrong. The Bible teaches us not to judge. God is the only one who knows the details of everyone’s life. He is the only one who can make a perfect judgment.
Don’t forget that you make just as many mistakes as anyone else. It’s not your job to keep track of how other people live or behave. Instead, trust that God knows what is best.
God, help me focus on loving people rather than judging them. Help me treat others with the same grace you give me.
We have been set free because of what Christ has done. Because he bled and died our sins have been forgiven. We have been set free because God’s grace is so rich.
EPHESIANS 1:7 NIRV
Jesus came to earth to share his love with anyone who wanted it. He died a terrible death on the cross so that your sins could be forgiven. He is the reason you can experience God’s grace.
Jesus is willing to forgive you every time you do something wrong. You don’t have to feel bad about your mistakes forever or hide your weaknesses. You can give your sin to Jesus and trust him to take care of it.
Jesus, thank you for dying so that I could have forgiveness. Help me be gracious to others when they make mistakes.
You have not seen Christ, but still you love him. You cannot see him now, but you believe in him. You are filled with a joy that cannot be explained.
1 PETER 1:8 ICB
You can believe in Jesus even though you can’t see him. You won’t see him standing in front of you, but he will show you his love. He will strengthen your faith, and he will show you proof of his goodness.
The world is filled with evidence of Jesus. You can look at the beauty of creation, the truth of the Bible, and the testimonies of other people. Each of those things can help you grow in love for the Lord.
Jesus, thank you for your love and filling me with your joy. Even though I can’t see you, I love you.
“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.”
ACTS 1:8 NIRV
Jesus sent the Holy Spirit when he went back to heaven. The Holy Spirit is a helper, who gives you the power to live a godly life. The Holy Spirit reminds you of the truth, gives you wisdom, and encourages you when you need it.
The Holy Spirit is God’s gift to you! It’s exciting to know that you have the same Holy Spirit power in you that raised Jesus from the dead. Don’t forget to lean on him whenever you need help.
Jesus, I am so thankful for the power of the Holy Spirit. Remind me to pray for every need I see.
“The Lord God says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega.
I am the One who is and was and is coming.
I am the All-Powerful.”
REVELATION 1:8 ICB
God has always existed. He doesn’t get older, and his time will never run out. He is here now, he was there at the beginning of time, and he will keep going forever.
