Introduction
Apple recently released the 5th generation of MacBook Pro. And as their custom is, they only release one new generation every 4-5 years, that’s when they change the design and introduce major new technologies and features. Also between these generations they only upgrade the specs, each having a big upgrade over the previous one with the only exception being the 4th gen, which was full of issues. However, the 5th generation not only fixes all of these issues but also adds a ton of bonus features on top. This revamped of the MacBook Pro models according to Apple offers up an extraordinary performance as well as the world’s best display for notebook. The MacBook Pro 2021 models come in two sizes, a 14.2 inch and 16.2 inch, with both being equipped with more ports, mini-LED displays, substantial memory as well as Apple powerful Silicon chips – M1 Max and M1 Pro. These Apple Silicon are now using what is called a unified memory architecture, where the RAM is being shared between the CPU and GPU allowing quick access. They are inarguably the best MacBook Pro since inception. Both the 14 inch and 16 inch have the same configuration options and the only differences are the size and the battery life, which is great because if you wanted to get the most powerful MacBook of the two new models, you no longer have to get the 16 inch model to have such performance.
The new MacBook Pro is an engineering masterpiece that claims multiple world’s best trophies for various aspects of the design and performance, all which is the result of Apple

going back to the root and giving the customers what they really want. From sacrificing a slim-looking chamfered design, to giving users better cooling performance and ports all the way to bringing back our functions keys and giving us the best 120Hz display in any laptop, now it can be said for certain that Apple is finally paying some form of attention to consumer review.
Differences between the 14” and 16” M1 Pro MacBook Pro Base Model
Both the 14 inch and 16 inch M1 Pro MacBook Pro come with a slight difference in base configurations, with the 14 inch having an 8-core CPU and 14-core GPU, while the 16 inch model gets a higher powered 10-core CPU and 16 core GPU. However, what really matters is how much the increase in chip size affects real life performance. Here are some differences in the physical buildup of the laptops.
2
Size: This is an obvious difference between both laptops, as the 14 inch weighing 3.5 pounds is smaller than the 16 inch laptop that goes up to 4.7 pounds. There are however, pros and cons to getting one or the other. With the 14 inch you will be getting a much more portable form factor with a pretty nice display size of 14.2 inches. The 16 inch is bigger and of course less portable but it is a bigger display which is always better. No matter the size of any, the display comes off as the same – Mini-LED, ProMotion 120Hz.
Battery Life: The size of each of them has a major part to play in their battery life and obviously the 16 inch have the better battery life with 21 hours of video playback and 14 hours of wireless web. However, this does not disregard the fact that the 14 inch also has a strong battery life compared to its previous 13 models, it also has 17 hours of video playback and 11 hours of wireless web.
Charger: The power brick on the base model 14 inch is 67 watt, while the 16 inch comes with a massive 140 watt.
Speaker: Apple in their spec page, listed that both laptops have the same speaker system. However, this is not so true because although they sound very similar, the 16 inch has the tiniest bit more bass in terms of sound quality and might not be noticed if attention is not given. Both come with a six-speaker system including four tweeters and four speakers.

M1 Pro vs M1 Max
Firstly, it is important to understand that the M1 Pro as it is known is actually not one chip but two chips. There is the 8-core chip with a 14-core GPU, and also a 10-core with a 16-core GPU. This indicates that not all M1 Pro is the same, regardless of the name, although this can be misleading to people. The marked difference between the two is a drastic improvement in the multi-core performance, which is a testament to two different extra cores in relation to horsepower.
While both the M1 Pro and M1 Max are different in their prices being $1200 apart, the M1 Pro being the base model of 10-core CPU, 16-core GPU and 16GB and comes at $2700 while the M1 Max has 10-core CPU, 32-core GPU and 32GB of RAM comes at $3900. However, there is a significant difference between these Apple Silicon processors. The Max has 400GB/s memory bandwidth, which is twice the memory bandwidth of the Pro coming at 200GB/s. Also, there is more memory support for the M1 Max which allows it to go up to 64GB of RAM while the Pro can only do 32GB of RAM. Although both have a 16-core neural engine, the M1 Pro has a single ProRes encoder and decoder and a single video encoder, while the M1 Max has two video encoder and two ProRes encoder and decoders. So video is much better on the M1 Max especially if you use Apple ProRes. Also, in relation to working with multiple monitors, while the M1 Pro supports only two external displays, the M1 Max supports four. Both the M1 Pro and the M1 Max chips are great

upgrades over Apple’s already impressive M1, but M1 Max seems to top the list. This however, isn’t to discredit the two other chips: the M1 still hasn’t been made obsolete because of the new upgrades, as it is still very functional for those who use laptops for basic activity in their day-to-day life.

CHAPTER ONE
DEVICE ESSENTIALS
Ever since Intel started failing back in 2015 with their Skylake chips causing issues for Apple, Apple have been spotted on in making some weird and annoying changes like removing MacOS support for 32-bits apps, deprecating OpenGL and forcing AMD and Nvidia to use Metal, ultimately causing the demise of Nvidia. But ever since Apple announced the new Apple Silicon transition, it became obvious that each step was a requirement for these M1 Macs to run, because these ARM-based chips don’t support 32bit apps and the Metal for optimization, because of the way the new tile-based GPUs work. And for the past year, the tech world has been really impressed and intrigued by the original M1 Macs. However, it is strongly believed that behind the curtains, the M1 Macs were actually a beta test for Apple’s Master Plan or Apple Silicon end-game, which is this new 14 and 16 inch MacBook Pros. And in my opinion, the master plan is to create the best laptop in the world, which Apple certainly have achieved and also to satisfy the widest range of customers to basically take back a huge portion of the laptop market share away from the windows competition. And doing this required a change in three major elements; Design, Reliability and Performance.
6
Buildup Design
The new MacBook Pros went back to their roots with a much thicker design now because Apple totally flattened out the bottom and the top instead of the concave 13 inch design that gets thicker in the center. This weight increase sees the 14 inch 200g heavier than the old 13 inch and the 16 inch is 100g heavier than the old 16 inch. However, if you get the M1 Max SOC version of the 16 inch model, that will be 200g heavier than the old 16 inch. Although the new MacBook Pros look thicker, in reality they are actually thinner than the old models or at least the 14 inch model is thinner by 0.1mm. Whereas, the 16 inch model is indeed thicker but only by 0.6mm. The reason why they look so thick is because Apple is no longer trying to make them look thin like they did with the previous models where they had that bulge underneath, giving out the illusion that they are super thin but in reality they were actually thicker.
The main benefits of this new design is that Apple has a lot more internal volume to work with, therefore allowing them to fit in better speakers, larger batteries like the 70WH batteries on the 14 inch and a much larger logic board and cooling system.
7
Along with this, the rubber feet have been redesigned to make the MacBook Pros sit a bit higher from the table, while also enlarging the vents all around the design to improve airflow. Even going as far as to add vents inside the hinge, whereas the previous hinge design was fully sealed.
Concerning the ports, they also came with some huge changes this year such as the MagSafe connector that is stronger than what was expected and also very convenient because it can be connected and disconnected with one hand without having to touch down on the MacBook with the other hand like you use to have to do with the USB-C port on previous MacBooks.
