In

a

far-off

village

in

the

eastern

part

of

India

was

a

little

boy

Manish

who

was

very

lean,

but

he

was

very

sharp.

He

used

to

run

very

fast

and

do

all

the

outdoor

chores

assigned

to

him.

He

would

always

think

as

to

when

he

would

grow

big

and

become

a

macho

man.

Macho-man

was

a

WWF

character

whom

he

adored

when

he

read

about

him

in

the

comics.

It

so

happened

that

whenever

Manish

read

a

story

about

his

favorite

cartoon

character,

he

would

presume

that

he

had

all

the

powers

of

the

character.

One

day

it

so

happened

that

he

was

just

sitting

outside

his

home

and

looking

at

the

people

passing

by.

He

saw

an

old

man,

aged

about

70+

years

struggling

to

walk.

Manish

was

surprised

to

see

the

old

man

tired

and

the

person

was

about

to

fall

off.

Manish

had

a

bottle

of

water

beside

him

and

he

quickly

carried

the

bottle

of

water

and

rushed

towards

the

old

man.

He

gave

the

old

man

the

bottle

of

water

and

allowed

him

to

sit

down

and

relax.

Now

Manish

realized

what

it

meant

to

be

kind

and

courteous.

His

teacher

had

taught

him

the

lesson

about

being

kind

and

generous

to

other

individuals

only

the

previous

day.

Manish

felt

happy

that

he

had

helped

the

old

man

by

giving

him

water

and

allowing

him

to

walk

on

his

feet

back

home.

It

was

late

in

the

afternoon

and

Manish’s

mother

came

looking

for

him.

She

saw

her

son

taking

care

of

the

old

man

by

offering

him

water

and

ensuring

that

he

was

back

on

his

feet.

All

the

people

who

had

gathered

around

were

very

happy

with

the

young

boy’s

generosity.

Manish’s

mother

called

her

son

and

spoke

to

him

about

how

well

he

had

done

in

taking

care

of

the

old

man.

Now

she

gave

him

a

spoon

of

sugar

for

the

good

task

he

had

done

and

she

appreciated

him

by

patting

him

on

his

back.

It

was

Saturday

afternoon

and

Manish’s

mother

wanted

her

son

to

go

to

the

nearby

store

and

get

some

crystal

salt.

Manish

took

the

money

from

his

mother

and

started

walking

towards

the

shop

which

was

just

a

few

100

meters

from

his

home.

Manish

offered

the

10

rupees

note

to

the

shopkeeper

and

asked

for

the

salt.

The

shopkeeper

told

him

that

the

crystal

salt

would

cost

him

Rs.

12

for

half

a

kilo.

Manish

was

surprised

as

to

what

he

could

do

now.

He

was

short

of

Rs.

2

and

he

was

not

able

to

purchase

what

his

mother

had

asked

for.

Even

while

he

was

thinking

as

to

what

he

could

do

now,

he

started

walking

back

home

after

collecting

the

Rs.

10

note

from

the

shopkeeper.

He

just

happened

to

see

Rs.

2

fall

off

the

pocket

of

an

young

man.

Manish

was

quick

enough

to

see

the

coin

roll

towards

him

as

he

walking

just

a

few

meters

behind

the

young

man.

Manish

happened

to

pick

up

the

coin

and

ran

towards

the

young

man.

He

happened

to

return

the

coin

to

the

young

man.

The

young

man

was

happy

with

the

honesty

of

Manish

and

told

him

to

keep

the

coin

as

a

token

of

appreciation.

Now

Manish

was

surprised

that

someone

had

given

him

Rs.

2

as

a

token

of

appreciation.

He

happily

took

the

coin

and

went

to

the

shop

once

again.

He

gave

the

shopkeeper

Rs.

12

and

purchased

the

salt.

He

had

just

realized

how

happy

one

could

be

when

they

receive

a

reward

for

doing

something

good.

Manish

went

home

and

handed

over

the
