CHAPTER ONEKarin Benson straightened her red beret as she strode briskly into the airport. A glance at her digital watch confirmed that she was much too early. She hadn't dreamed that the Chicago taxi drivers could make such good time to the airport. She had left the apartment only fifteen minutes ago and had allowed at least an hour for the rush of traffic on the expressway. Karin had dreamed last night of being late for her first overseas flight. Now it seemed that the lovely young blonde was so early that she would have to spend a half hour in the coffee shop waiting for the senior stewardess to arrive so she could check in.The long-legged young girl slid into a booth reserved for airline personnel and arranged the short skirt of her red and gold EurAm uniform carefully so that it wouldn't wrinkle. Flight 912 was a regular flight which the airline had named the Silver Argosy, departing at six p.m. on Friday evenings. Their destination was Paris, France and the crew had until Monday noon to amuse themselves in Paris before the return flight to Chicago. There wasn't a single EurAm stewardess who didn't want to spend each and every weekend in Paris. The stews bid on Flight 912 the instant they had earned enough priority to request assignments, but never in the four years the flight had been in existence had a beginning stew like Karin been assigned to Flight 912. Of course she'd requested Flight 912, as had every other girl in her training group, but Karin was convinced it was some sort of error which had listed her on the special crew.
