Charles Haddon Spurgeon was an English Particular Baptist Preacher born on 19 June 1834. To this day, Spurgeon remains one of the most influential preachers of all time, and has often been referred to as the “Prince of Preachers.” Spurgeon served as pastor over “New Park Street Chapel” in London for approximately thirty-eight years. In addition to pastoring, he was also a well-known author, penning numerous works during his lifetime that included sermons, an autobiography, Bible commentaries, devotionals, poetry, and hymns.

What is particularly interesting about Spurgeon is his staunch support of Calvinism and reformed theology throughout his lifetime; a fact that is often ignored by modern-day Baptists who have sought to break from the reformed-tradition of early Baptist churches. This inclination toward Calvinist-theology becomes evident throughout many of Spurgeon’s sermons.

This work, along with planned books for the future, seeks to provide its readers with a basic understanding of Spurgeon’s beliefs and ideas. What follows is the complete text of Spurgeon’s sermon, “Mr. Evil Questioning Tried and Executed.” It is this author’s hope that this work will be a blessing to its readers as they explore one of the most fascinating individuals to have arose from the Nineteenth-Century.
