DESCRIPTION:
Lena knew her days were numbered. Professional assassins always lived on borrowed time. And she knew who would end her days. Yuri Novikov, and just as she was thinking of him, she heard the slight snick of the lock on her front door. So this was the day? But when they saw each other, when all the rules of killing were put in the back of their minds, well...

EXCERPT:
Yuri smiled and wondered what she was about. “No plans, Lena. I guess I could take a little vacation, yes?”

“Stay with me, Yuri. Stay with me for three days.”

“Why, Lena? Why prolong the agony we both will feel? You know what I must do.”

“Yes, Yuri, I know, and like I said, I will not fight you. Just give me three days.”

“And how will we spend these three days?”

“In bed, Yuri. Let me experience what I’ve always fantasized about for so long. We both know there is not much time between contracts to have a decent relationship. I haven’t had sex for a long while and I want you to be my last lover. Make it good, Yuri. Please me. Love me.”

Yuri was taken aback by her declaration and didn’t really know how to respond. His body did, though. My God, he wanted her more than anything.

“Yuri, look me in the eyes and tell me you’ve never wanted me in this way.”

She was right. He had thought of her in those terms but knew it was an impossibility. Christ, he could be assassinated himself for even coming close to sleeping with her. But this … it was too much.

“Lena, I have wanted you in the dead of night when all I have are memories of the faces of every person I have killed. It has been the only thing to sustain me after all the blood and death. Yes, I have wondered how soft you are. I will not deny it.”

Lena Dolan was unpacking her suitcase, glad to be home but sorry to not have another contract to fulfill. Not that she needed the money. She had enough money and investments to last the rest of her life which wasn’t saying much. Life in her line of work meant she could die at any moment of any day.

Just when she would close the lid on her clothes hamper, she heard it. The quiet snick of a lock being picked. Instead of panicking, she smiled. So this was the day.

She knew who it was and didn’t even bother to grab her gun that was always nearby. What was the use? He was faster than her, she was sure of it. Lena was half dreading and half elated to see him again. Dread because she would die that day. Elation because she had developed a certain passion for Yuri Novikov. An unfortunate love.

“Hello, Lena.”

“Hello, Yuri. So, this is how it ends after all these years. It’s a sad day.” She stood resolutely with her back to Yuri, knowing he would never shoot her without looking into her eyes.

“Yes, it is a sad day, mllaya moyna. A sad day indeed.” Yuri knew the weight of this loss would haunt him for the rest of his days.

“Can we talk for a while, Yuri? Will you hear my confessions?”

“Certainly, Lena. I understand.”

Lena smiled. She had always wondered if Yuri harbored the same affections for her as she had for him. “Good. Let me pour us some Russian vodka first. I might even have some of the good stuff stashed for just this occasion. I always knew this day would come.”

Lena finally turned and looked into the mesmerizing peridot green eyes that had always fascinated her. She knew it was against all protocol to carry a photograph of him on her person while on the job, but she did it anyway. She had memorized every line, every facet, every nuance of the face she had come to love.

Yuri finished attaching the silencer to his pistol and laid it on a coffee table as he watched her walk to the kitchen. She was a beautiful woman in every way. Under different circumstances...

“Do you still drink Stoli, Yuri?”

“Yes, of course.”

She poured them both a shot of Stoli, and they clinked their shot glasses before downing the vodka in one swallow. “Now we will relax with some wine.”

She knew from his profile that Yuri had a weakness for French wines, and she bought the best and most expensive ones to keep for this possibility. If they weren’t used in a timely fashion, that is if he had not found her and won the game of cat and mouse, she drank it herself and replenished it immediately. Even in her death she wanted to be the perfect hostess for the occasion. She would go out with class and grace.

“Please, sit down, Yuri. Make yourself comfortable. I promise not to fight you when it’s time. I’ve contemplated this moment for so long. Truth be told it’s sort of a relief, you might say. I’m tired of the hunt. I’m tired of the killing. So, one question before we begin. What are your plans after today? Do you have any?”

Yuri smiled and wondered what she was about. “No plans, Lena. I guess I could take a little vacation, yes?”

“Stay with me, Yuri. Stay with me for three days.”

“Why, Lena? Why prolong the agony we will both feel? You know what I must do.”

“Yes, Yuri, I know, and like I said, I will not fight you. Just give me three days.”

“And how will we spend these three days?”

“In bed, Yuri. Let me experience what I’ve always fantasized about for so long. We both know there is not much time between contracts to have a decent relationship. I haven’t had sex for a long while and I want you to be my last lover. Make it good, Yuri. Please me. Love me.”

Yuri was taken aback by her declaration and didn’t really know how to respond. His cock did, though. My God, I want her more than anything.

Yes, I have gotten hard beneath the sheets wondering how soft you are inside. How wet. I will not deny it.”

They were both silent as they sipped their wine, knowing it was insane to even express in words what they were contemplating. Still, it would quench an undeniable thirst Yuri had for Lena. If things were different … well, in a different life she would have been his long ago. How did they get to this point? How much money would make up for what they had denied themselves ... or what they had taken from others?

“Making love to you, Yuri, will be an affirmation of life and love even though I will die at the end. Don’t let me leave this earth without having felt love both heartfelt and physical. Come, let’s take a shower before we begin.”

Yuri thought he might have gone mad in that instant when he found himself walking behind her toward the bathroom, watching the sway of her hips, her regal walk. Yes, she was a queen. Today she would be his queen. Yuri suddenly felt a heavy dread in his heart. Would it be madness to set himself up for such pain? He knew he might not be able to pull the trigger when the three days were over. Then his own life would be in danger. Perhaps I would be willing to forfeit my life for just three days with Lena.

With her back toward Yuri, she undressed completely and then turned around so he could see her in all her glory. “Now you, Yuri. Let me see you.”

Yuri was in awe of her beauty and feasted his eyes on her body, the body he would soon possess heart and soul. His cock was hard as stone when he finally removed the last of his clothing. He stood like a Norse god, yearning and pulsing. It was no surprise to Lena. He was even more gorgeous than in her dreams.

The shower stall was small so they just cleansed themselves and then dried off. Yuri took Lena’s hand and led her to the bed where he would claim her body, and later her life.

Lena smiled and held her arms out to him but he remained standing at the side of the bed, drinking in the sight of her lovely womanhood. When he was ready, he kneeled over and kissed her tenderly. “Lena, my love,” he whispered into her mouth. Her lips were full and tasted of red wine. It was a heady experience for Yuri, for he usually never kissed the women with whom he had sex. “Let me drink you in, darling. Open wider for me.” He lay on top of her body then, reveling in the silkiness of her skin.

Lena was in heaven; as close to heaven as she would ever come. She knew there was a special devil put aside for her in hell after all the killing, but for three days she would know heaven. She opened her mouth wider and took Yuri’s tongue more fully, tasting him, feeling the glory of his kiss.

She felt Yuri’s hardness against her abdomen and instinctively opened her legs to receive him. But Yuri wasn’t finished plundering her mouth, and she certainly wasn’t going to rush him. She wanted every single moment of their tragic affair to count to the fullest.
