EMMA

In the hospital cafeteria, the protagonist's best friend sent her a link to a black Reddit thread discussing the "Am I the Asshole" thread. The girl read the thread and realized that her ex-boyfriends were happy. She asked her friend Maddy about the billboard and how many weddings he had to be in. She decided to ask Justin, who had a different handle, just_in_267.

The girl sent a message to Justin, asking him if he was a reporter trying to figure out her identity. Justin replied, stating that he thought she was an undercover cop trying to figure out her identity. The girl explained that she is not a reporter and that he would see if he matched with her on Tinder.

Maddy asked her to take a picture of herself, thinking it might be a serial killer. She explained that it's no different than what he would see if he matched with her on Tinder and they would be in Hawaii in a few weeks. He's in Minnesota. Even if he could figure out who she is, he wouldn't track her down.

The girl was in scrubs and sent the picture to Maddy. Justin asked her how many times she has been catfished by reporters and how many times she has been catfished this week. She replied that she had only been asked once to be in a wedding for someone who benefited from her streak.

The girl laughed and read the text out loud to Maddy, who asked if pictures or it didn't happen.

The narrator and her friend Maddy are discussing a potential suspect, Justin, who they believe is a man with a sense of humor. They find a picture of Justin on Instagram, which they share with their friend. The woman suggests that the FBI should hire more women to investigate Justin's online behavior, as it would help them pass the vibe check.

The woman then shares a link to a photo of Justin on his Instagram account, which they both find cute and funny. They also discuss the dog, which they find to be a rescue dog, and the billboard he has posted. The woman explains that the dog trusts Justin and that the billboard is a green flag for him.

The woman then looks at the room, which is filled with a grinning, bearded middle-aged man dressed like a king, holding a plunger over a clogged toilet. She notes that the closer the bed is to the floor, the worse humans are. The woman also mentions that she requires bedroom photos before meeting someone, as sleeping bags have floor energy.

The woman zooms around the room, finding Justin's bed made with a beige duvet and a neat desk with an elaborate computer set up on it. She expresses her frustration with the idea that Justin is a man with a sense of humor and that the FBI should hire more women to investigate Justin's online behavior.

A woman named Chad finds a man named Justin Dahl, a software engineer, in her apartment. She finds his family, including a teenage boy, a girl, and a sleeping girl. She finds Justin's father died unexpectedly at the age of 45 and is following him on Instagram. Chad and her mother are amused by Justin's J-name and decide to continue surveillance.

After dinner, Chad receives a DM from Justin, who sends him a picture of himself holding a dog. Chad explains that Justin is not a Beetlejuice character and that he changed his name on Reddit to Faith. Chad is disappointed to hear that Justin is internet famous for being an asshole. Chad also mentions that Justin buys a plant at every new city and leaves it with someone. Chad likes to garden but moves too much for it.

Justin explains that reporters are trying to figure out Chad's secret identity because everyone wants to know who the guy who can guarantee a happy ever after is. Chad is surprised that Justin's DMs are off the hook, as he only answered because Chad mentioned the same thing happening to him.

Chad has another twelve-hour shift tomorrow, and Chad is happy to have a conversation with Justin.

JUSTIN

The narrator visits Brad and Benny at a restaurant, where they discuss their limited lunch breaks and Brad's dewormer. They mention Faith, who has been dragging his ass on the carpet, and Brad, a general manager at Trader Joe's, misses having another human to talk to. The narrator mentions the viral Reddit trend that has been nonstop all week, and how they have had a few girls ask if they would date them and break up with them so they can find their soulmate.

Brad smirks at this, but the narrator admits that they are both assholes to each other. They have two hundred messages right now, and they only want to date me to break up with me. The narrator is amused by the idea of someone cool in there dating him, but Brad denies it.

The narrator mentions meeting a nurse who seems to have the same luck charm as the narrator. Brad suggests that if they date each other, they will both find their soulmates when they break up. The narrator is serious about this idea, but the narrator doesn't text her today. He is getting tired of Brad being single all the time and thinks he is messing up the ratio.

The narrator takes a bite of their favorite appetizer platter, which includes wings and burgers.

Benny and Brad are in serious relationships, and they are planning to go hiking together in October. The protagonist, who is getting burnt out of dating, is considering asking Jane, a nurse who met him before he even had kidneys, to go with him. Brad believes that this is a win-win situation, and if not done, he will spend the rest of his life sending women to their forever families.

The protagonist is skeptical, as not every woman he dates goes on to get married. Brad explains that it only happens with anyone you like enough to ask out more than twice. He believes that the soulmate of the woman they date is the person they meet after you, and they are fated not to be The One.

The protagonist is considering trying to message Jane, but she is unsure if it would hurt her. She decides to send a message to Emma16_dilemma, as she has been doing this with every date that didn't pan out.

EMMA

Justin, a software engineer, recently messaged the narrator, who had not heard from him in three days. Justin asked if he could answer any medical questions and suggested seeing a doctor if the issue was serious. The narrator was surprised by Justin's cuteness and the fact that he has flushed many impacted ears. Justin replied that he is a software engineer and that he lives in Minnesota. The narrator was surprised that he took so long to ask the narrator out, but he suggested that he might come to Colorado to take the narrator to Starbucks. The narrator was surprised by Justin's response, as he was in Colorado and would be traveling to Hawaii for three months in three weeks.

In this text, the protagonist and her best friend Maddy decide where to go after Hawaii. Justin suggests Minnesota as a potential destination, as it has beautiful weather, Mayo Clinic, and Royaume Northwestern hospitals. The protagonist is intrigued by the idea of dating someone who only wants to break up with them, but Justin believes it's mutually beneficial. They discuss their feelings about dating and the possibility of breaking the cycle of finding soulmates.

Emma, who doesn't believe in the magical good luck charm, agrees with Justin. He also mentions that everyone she dates more than twice is cosmically destined for someone else. She admits that she doesn't meet the right people and feels trapped in a loop. Brad suggests that they could try going on dates and then stop, as it would be low-risk and high-reward.

The protagonist and Justin decide to try breaking the cycle by going on dates and then splitting up after. They plan to have contact every day, texting or talking on the phone, and seeing each other at least once a week. However, the protagonist's family obligations make it difficult to travel for extended periods.

The protagonist is excited about the idea of breaking the cycle and hopes to return to the mainland in three and a half months. However, there is disappointment in the silence between them.

Maddy and Justin are friends who spend time together, watching movies together. The protagonist, who has a complicated relationship with her mother Amber, is concerned about her disappearance. Amber has been impulsive and has been missing for years, but Maddy believes she is a fully functional member of society.

The protagonist is surprised by Justin's idea to try dating him, but he is not interested in the idea. He believes that Amber had a different life than the protagonist, and that everyone is different. Amber had been a single parent at eighteen with no family, money, or support. She had issues with her childhood, and Maddy knew it.

Maddy comes back to discuss the anniversary of Janet and Beth's thirtieth, which the protagonist doesn't want to attend. She suggests that they could get a week off, as they are both under assignment. However, the protagonist cannot wrap her mind around this idea, as her foster parents were her real parents.

Maddy mentions that she might meet an IT guy from Tinder for drinks again, but she is not sure if he has a friend. She is getting sick of DJing her own party and is not sure if he has a bed frame.

Maddy didn't come back last night, and the protagonist is off and nowhere to be. They secretly hope Maddy doesn't get it. Maddy's date went well, and the protagonist is off and nowhere to be.

In this text, the protagonist is in a robe and getting ready to paint her nails when Justin texts her a selfie of him wearing a long red wig and lipstick. He tells her that she had to be Princess Anna and Chelsea this morning. Justin reminds her that she can only marry if it's true love. The protagonist is surprised by how long Chelsea made her stand frozen solid for fifteen minutes.

The protagonist runs an errand at home and shares her day with Justin. They discuss breaking a curse together and plan to start it after Chelsea returns from Hawaii. Justin believes they deserve it and asks her why she doesn't deserve it. She admits that she is a good person and doesn't deserve it.

Jenny tells her about his day off and their house, which is a fully furnished two-bedroom A-frame cabin. They always try to find fun places to walk to, such as beach houses or lofts. They also have a tree house in Atlanta. In Hawaii, they stay in a condo.

The protagonist makes breakfast and shares her cooking skills. She mentions that she cooked mac and cheese with hot dogs for Chelsea and slow cooker ribs for her four-year-old sister. Justin is impressed by her cooking abilities and asks her about her last meal.
