Through many centuries, civilizations have rejected Athens and Jerusalem and they have collapsed into dust. Once, the USSR have rejected Greek natural law and Judeo-Christian values. They substituted a new utopian version of what “social justice” is. They have starved and slaughtered millions of humans in the altar of social justice. The Nazis have also rejected Greek natural law and Judeo-Christian values. They have shoved men, women, children, and the elderly into gas chambers. Venezuela have also rejected the same laws and values as the citizens of their oil-rich nation got reduced to eating dogs. In his book The Right Side of History: How Reason and Moral Purpose Made the West Great, Ben Shapiro explains that humanity is in the process of abandoning the Greek natural law and Judeo-Christian values. Instead, we are favoring the rule of passion and moral subjectivism. As we watch our modern civilization collapse into individualistic hedonism, age-old tribalism, and moral subjectivism, we get satisfied with scientific materialism, or intersectionality, or authoritarian governance, or progressive politics, or nationalistic solidarity. Ben Shapiro says that we can’t. He explains why the West is special. Too many of the Westerners have lost sight of their moral purpose and motivation to be better. They also forget their sacred duty to work together for the greater good. Ben Shapiro writes a stark warning, and a final call to spiritual arms, The Right Side of History may be the first step in bringing our civilization back on the right track.

Chapter One: Introducing The Right Side of History

I

n 2016, top conservative commentator Ben Shapiro spoke at University of California in Berkeley. There were hundreds of police officers who were required to be at the ten UC campuses across the state. This was meant to protect Shapiro’s speech, which was ironically about rational debate, free speech and the necessity for them. Ben Shapiro came to argue that the Western Civilization is in the middle of a crisis of ideas and purpose. Our freedoms were built upon the twin notions that every human being was created in the image of God and that human beings have been created with reason that is capable of exploring the world God made.

Shapiro says that we can thank the values for the birth of science, progress, prosperity, human rights, peace, creativity and artistic beauty. Shapiro says that Jerusalem and Athens have built America to what it is today. It had ended slavery. It also defeated the Communists and the Nazis. It also lifted billions of people from poverty and gave billions more to spiritual purpose. Jerusalem and Athens have been the foundations of the Magna Carta. They have also founded the Treaty of Westphalia. Apart from these, Jerusalem and Athens were the foundations of Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation, of the Declaration of Independence, and of course, the Letter that Martin Luther King Jr. wrote from Birmingham Jail.

Through time, many civilizations have rejected Athens and Jerusalem and the Greek natural law and Judeo-Christian values. These civilizations have collapsed into dust. Shapiro cited the USSR as it rejected Judeo-Christian values and the Greek natural law. USSR substituted their new version of a utopian vision of "social justice". They not only starved tens of millions of humans, they have also slaughtered in the name of social justice. Another example Shapiro cited are the Nazis. They have also rejected the Greek natural law and the Judeo-Christian values. They shoved millions of men, women, children, and the elderly into the gas chambers. In one time in their history, Venezuela have also rejected the same Greek natural laws and Judeo-Christian values as the citizens of their oil-rich nation were reduced to poor eating dogs.

In his book The Right Side of History: How Reason and Moral Purpose Made the West Great, Ben Shapiro discusses how humanity is in the process of abandoning the Judeo-Christian values and Greek natural law. What we do instead is favor the rule of passion and moral subjectivism. Shapiro says that we will watch our modern civilization collapse as we delve into individualistic hedonism, age-old tribalism, and moral subjectivism. Sadly, humanity gets satisfied with intersectionality, scientific materialism, authoritarian governance, progressive politics, and nationalistic solidarity. Ben Shapiro says that we can't let go of the wisdom and truths that have established the West. He further explains why the West is significant and special to the world. Unfortunately, too much of the Western world have lost sight of their motivation and moral purpose to be better versions of themselves. They have also forgotten the duty that was given to them to work together for the greater good.
