“Now God had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.” (Jonah 1:17)
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a prophet? What would it be like to give people messages from God? That was Jonah’s job until Yahweh, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, sent him to give a special warning to a city of strangers.
Even worse, those strangers were his enemies! No wonder he didn’t want to do the job God gave him.
Jonah was a Hebrew prophet who lived in the land of Israel a long time ago. God used him to deliver important messages to the Israelites. Sometimes these messages were warnings; other times, God gave Jonah good news to share.
You might think Jonah was very holy to be used by God, but he was just like us. He didn’t always behave how God wanted him to behave.
Many people believe there are different ways to pronounce God’s name. These include Yah, Yahweh, Yahuah, and many others.
