CHAPTER ONE

The Clumsy Turtle

Wyatt was half-asleep when he heard the argument begin. He tossed and turned. Julian was out of prison, so a loud argument wasn't s surprise. Those trailer park boys were very loud. Whenever one of them was separate, they were usually pretty subdued -- even when it was Specs who was gone (which didn't happen often), the other two quieted down despite the fact that Specs was usually the quietest of the three.

So a part of Wyatt realized that Julian must be out of jail. He had been locked up for most of a year. Robby was in jail too, but not for quite as long, he had been out for two months already.

"I'm not helping you rob the-!!!" Julian's deep voice cut off suddenly. He had been shouting and then stopped when he realized how loud he had been. The sudden cut-off of his voice was more attention-grabbing than it would have been if he kept speaking. The others vociferously hushed him. Julian was bigger than the others, and had a deeper voice that carried far in the darkness of the British Columbia night.

Wyatt sighed and rolled over. He had been hearing this simmering argument for some time, and it had been keeping him awake, but he dozed so he didn't quite notice it. Now that it was loud enough to shatter him into wakefulness, he was annoyed.

He had gathered that Julian was sleeping in Robby's car, which was parked in front of Robby's dad's trailer and next to Spec's shed -- he lived in a shed rather than a trailer. The three of them -- Julian, Robby and Spec -- argued loudly in the little space between Wyatt's trailer and Robby's.

"I set this whole thing up for you! It's our welcome-home-Julian plan"

"It's a stupid plan, Robby! You're stupid! This is idiotic!"

"It's a good plan!"

"A good plan? Robby, your entire plan is to show up with guns and demand the money-"

"He'll give in, Gerry is a fucking pussy, man, you know that. Remember how he started crying in Grade Nine that one time-"

Specs' wavery, shrill voice cut in. "That's not really relevant, Robby. We were just whipper-snappers then-"

"Yeah, he cried because you were making fun of his dog, Robby, like a day after it died-"

"That dog was a yappy piece of shit and I oughta smack the bark outta it's throat!" Robby shouted. He was the smallest of the three, but he was a little spitfire of energy, and he was seemingly always shouting. "C'mon, smokes."

"I'm not-" Julian growled and rolled his eyes. Against his better judgement, he took out his battered packet of cigarettes and handed one to Robby. He couldn't complain too much, Julian thought, since Robby was letting him sleep in his car. "Look... Robby, I don't wanna go back to jail. I'm not doing that."

"Don't be a dumbie," Robby hissed. "It's a foolproof plan."

"I don't think it is," Julian said. He scowled and looked at the little bed he had made for himself in the backseat of the car. It didn't look inviting by any means. Julian was more than six feet tall, so he wouldn't really fit. He'd slept in cars before and knew how to angle himself in a way that was more or less tolerable. But he wasn't going to enjoy it.

That didn't mean he wasn't looking forward to it. It was his first night out of prison. He enjoyed the feel of cold air on his skin, and he thought he might just sleep outside on the ground. That would feel good too, he thought. But he didn't want anyone to know -- if the others in the park saw him, they'd think he was homeless. He didn't want their pity.

Which he wasn't -- he had a place to live, even if it was the backseat of Robby's ridiculous shitcar.

"Maybe if you won't help me out with this project, you can't sleep in my car." Robby sounded like a kid having a temper tantrum; his upper lip even quivered. He looked serious, his face drawn tight, barely visible in the darkness.

Wyatt got up and peered through the window. This argument was playing out just a few feet from his bedroom window. He wished they would go away. He was still sleepy, right up until he saw Julian.

Wyatt blushed at the sight of his beefy body. A wash of warm arousal flowed through him. He was suddenly more turned on than he had been in awhile.

"It's my car, Julian, you're not sleeping in it if you're gonna be a big pussy like this!"

Julian was very sexy. He normally wore a black tee shirt and black jeans -- a sexy look, especially since he was a big burly, barrel-chested and broad-shouldered man. He was much bigger than his friends too.

Wyatt was exhilarated right now because Julian was shirtless. He held his tee shirt in his hand as though he had been undressing for bed -- or maybe to shower with the hose -- when he started arguing with Robby.

"Yeah, well maybe I don't wanna sleep in your car then," Julian said. He threw his hands in the air, revealing his big bushy armpits and making the flesh of his triceps shake. Wyatt's heart skipped a beat as Julian turned around, facing the window for just a moment. The bulge of his dick was plainly visible in the dim light; his boxers were a little too small for him, so his shaft shifted the fabric when he turned around. Julian, of course, couldn't see into Wyatt's darkened trailer, so he had no idea Wyatt was there watching.

Wyatt blushed but went out to the front door because he thought a fist-fight might develop. Julian and Robby screamed at each other as Julian backed away, while Specs stood nearby fretting.

"Don't fight, boys..." Specs sounded like he was going to cry if this continued for much longer.

"Fine, I'll just go -- I'll go-" Julian tripped over his words because he couldn't think of where he might go.

"Hey," Wyatt said. He was out on his front porch. Julian had been walking backwards to keep shouting at Robby, so when he turned around and saw Wyatt, he stumbled over a rock. He fell onto the rickety wooden stairs that led up to Wyatt's patio and the door to his trailer.
