It was the first day of summer the suburbs were the same as always, but something didn't feel right. As I walked back inside the CNN breaking news report. The reporter stated that there was a war threat placed on the US. I knew that there were war talks between the US and China, but I always knew they would not do anything. I then decided to turn the telivision off and then the news caster stated that the United states was under a nuclear attack from China. I quickly made a run for the door. As I stepped outside the searing heat burned my skin like sunburn at a beach and then came the boom. The explosion was so big it caused my car to implode on its self under the driveway. Then the sirens it was like the worst earthquake the world has ever experinced. I looked down the road and saw people being vaporized in the heat. As soon as I saw it I realized death was around the corner. I ran back to my house and into the bunker my parents left before they moved. There were more sonic booms over the next 3 months and then it stopped.
The minute before the bombs I grabbed my radio from the kitchen on the way to the bunker. Im all alone nobody but myself. The radio crackles and turns on " This is the United States military the nuclear fallout has cleared and it is now safe to go outside." I let out a sigh of desperation and quickly gathered my things. As the door opend to the wasteland the bright nuclear sun blinded me as I stepped out. Everything was gone my house my street, my city, my country. I decided to start my journey through the new world... the wasteland.
A new life is waiting for me on the other side of the city. I made my way to the inner city. Skyscrapers stand tall as they're about to fall from the explosion. Bodies lie everywhere or whats left of them anyways. I felt like this is not happening and that its all a dream, but it is not nothing this real could be a dream. The thoughts came back to me the horrible crying as people above are being vaporized by some communist bomb. I felt like killing myself as there was nothing to live for anymore. No I must not do that Im going to learn how to survive this world that we live in now. I saw someone at the end of the road I knew I couldn't be the only one left I ran towards the mysterious figure. Not even all the cracks and breaks from the road could stop me I reached the figure it was a lamp post I sat there and cried. After all of this I was the only one left in the wasteland.
I gathered myself as I contined more into the city. Suddenly an arrow missed me by an inch. "Who goes there the figure yelled" I replied back " Jack please dont shoot !" The figure came out of the dark shadow she kept to this whole time. " Whats your name." I asked. She lightly walked her way over to me. " My name is Ariel nice to meet you." There was no other person I would be happy to see right now exept the stranger who just tried to kill me. We talked about our life before the war. Her family went to the local fallout shelter, but the shelter only had room for one more so they sacrificed their life for her. Afterwards there was silence and then she got up and left. " Hey where are you going." I yelled. She replied " Im going to washington people said that the explosions missed there and it was fallout free, but i doubt it." She had a sad look on her face now it's not worth it anymore so I told her I would tag along to Washington city. We now begin our trip to peace.
We began the the long trip to the east coast we ran across some supplies that we picked up and that was it. Besides that it was silence with little talk until we reached the city limits. It was silent the ground began to shake. The biggest thing I have ever seen and possibly the biggest thing the military could not even beat. The oversized beast charged at us from half a mile were he was standing. Ariel jumped on the monster and stabbed it in the brain. It twitched and died at first I had two things going on in my mind. 1: how was this thing alive and 2: Why did it even exist. Then it came to me this is a world were nothing is what it used to be. The muntant was not the only thing we encountered on our way to washington. There were also many raidoactive insects that shot acid from them also. I just wanted to be somewhere that i know there is no destruction and just peace. Im sure that in the future that will never happen unless I die.
