Noble Polish family Gdowski, coat of arms Oksza ( Ascia, Bradacica, Bradaczyca, Brodacica, Halabarda, Hoksza, Oksa, Oxa, Kołda )
Coat of Arms Description.
Oksza (Ascia, Bradacica, Bradaczyca, Brodacica, Halabarda, Hoksza, Oksa, Oxa, Kolda). In a red field a vertical silver ax, with the long black handle down and the blade to the right; Helmet decoration: the ax hacked into the crown from the lower tip of the blade. This coat of arms is introduced from Bohemia by the Wierszowiec. The Bohemian prince Mnat, devoted to hunting, almost only lived in the forest and hardly cared about the administration of the land, which he left completely to the knight Wierszowiec, who was close to him. Driven by ambition, he wanted to seize power and plotted a conspiracy in his favour. Prince Mnat, having learned of this, suddenly appeared in Prague, summoned a meeting of his nobles and asked them what punishment I deserved from his prince, who bestowed his fullest trust, and insidiously betrayed his loyalty? The general answer was: 'Death!' Then Mnat spoke to Wierszowiec: 'I confirm this general judgment pronounced against you, who wanted to destroy me, but I want to give you the choice of whether you want to kill yourself or die by executioners! « Wierszowiec killed himself with his own sword. Prince von Fürst ordered that the culprit's family, who more or less agreed with this, had to take off the Wiersza coat of arms (that is, a golden fish trap in blue) and carry two crossed executioner's axes in a red field on the shield from then on have. This new coat of arms was in Bohemia Bradacice, also called Bratczyc. The distrust of princes towards the Wierszowiec was inherited and they, always feeling threatened, fled to Poland, where they received land ownership. Here Jan Wierszowiec performed a great service for King Bolestaw, who besieged the Bohemian Duke Swiatoplug in Glogau in 1103 , by sneaking into the Bohemian camp of his own accord and killing Duke Swiatoplug; then he fought knightly on the Hunds Felde in 1109 against the emperor and was enfeoffed by the king with goods in the province of Sieradz. In order to atone for the shame caused by Wierszowiec's flight from Bohemia, Raciborz Werszowiec and others of his family gathered people and went to the same Bohemian dukes Fryc and Przemysl, who were at war with Duke Konrad of Moravia, in 1160 to their aid. distinguished themselves by bravery and contributed much to the victory. For this, Raciborz and his fellows not only gained the favor of the prince, but also received the Prynda Castle on the Bavarian border and instead of the well-known axes in the shield as a coat of arms only an ax, the second ax as a helmet decoration. This coat of arms was then called Oksza (Ascia, Bradacica, Bradaczyca, Brodacica, Halabarda, Hoksza, Oksa, Oxa, Kołda) (axe). But the name Kolda also appeared. This coat of arms is used by:
