The noble Polish family Gerwatowski.
Die adlige polnische Familie Gerwatowski.
The noble Polish family Gerwatowski.
The noble Polish family Gerwatowski, coat of arms Szeliga.
Gerwatowski, coat of arms Szeliga. and Rozanna 1648, Pomeranian. Paid homage to Prussia in 1772. Around 1825 led to proof of nobility in Poland. (Zernicki).
Coat of Arms Description.
Szeliga. In a red field a golden crescent, open at the top, decorated with a golden high cross; Helmet decoration: a peacock tail. About the origin of the coat of arms it is said: The Lithuanians invaded the land of Lublin in 1282 and it was attacked by Prince Leszek Czarny with an army consisting mainly of the nobility of the Sieradz and Sendomierz principalities. He had knight Szeliga with van vanguard and later authors like Duncewski, Krasicki, Kuropatnicki, Malachowski, Wieladko and also added his own data. (...) entrusted by enemy position and strength. On that report, Leszek ordered a night raid from the enemy camp. This raid, carried out by Szeliga, was successful, many Lithuanians were killed and captured, the rest fled, and a rich booty was made. As a reward, Leszek Czarny awarded the knight Szeliga, who had a silver crescent in a red field as his coat of arms, as a augmentation of the same cross, which had triumphed over a pagan enemy, this gold, just as gold should be from crescent distant, because of the brilliant success and of rich spoils, then as a crest a peacock's tail, of which the proven many-eyed cleverness of the knights should indicate. It kept this new coat of arms name Szeliga. Since this war took place on the day of Archangel Michael, September 30, Prince Leszek had the Church of St. Michael built in Lublin as a thank you. It is believed by some heralds that the coat of arms should have a half ring instead of a crescent moon, as in the Ratuld coat of arms, which is why it is often confused with this one. Then it is also stated that instead of the cross, Mond was originally occupied with a fallen sword, but that Bodzeta, Archbishop of Gniezno, carried the Szeliga coat of arms after he had baptized Grand Duke Wladyslaw Jagiello as a Christian in 1386, the sword in his coat of arms replaced with a cross. The first homeland of the Szeliga tribe and coat of arms was the Szeligi estate in the Sendomierz province in the Opatow district. This coat of arms is used by:
Bialecki, Bielenski, Bielinski, Bodzanowski, Bodzeta, Borzyszkowski, Bossowski, Bostowski, Bukraba, Charzewski, Charzewski, Chlistowski, Czarnoluski, Czarnotulski, Czernicki, Dabrowski, Dobiesz, Dobieszewski, Dowojna, Fargow, Gerwalowski, Gorecki, Gorski, Gorski, Gorski, Kozica, Kozierski, Krzczonowicz, Lancucki, Lasocki, Lasowski, Lis (Lisy, Lisowie, Bzura, Mzura, Murza, Strempacz, Orzi-Orzi, Vulpis), Losowski, Losowski, Lukomski, Magier, Markowski, Matkuszewski, Mirecki, Mirewicz, Mirzejowski , Nazarewicz, Niemojewski, Piatkowski, Plucinski, Podsonski, Potocki, Prumienski, Przeczkowski, Pstrag, Puzlowski, Ramienski, Ratocki, Rostkowski, Rytel, Rytelski, Serwatowicz, Siemionowicz, Skorupski, Stawski, Stanislawski, Strawinski, Strusinski, Szufczynski, (Scheliha), Szeligowski, Szeliski, Szolkowski, Szpadkowski, Trojanowski, Trzebinski, Turczynowicz, Turzenin, Wachowski, Wysokinski, Zabawski, Zernicki, Zlocki, Zubrzycki, Zychlinski.
The Bukraba and Zernicki have changed the coat of arms: von Mond is not occupied by the cross, but this is somewhat raised, as a helmet decoration three ostrich feathers, the Krzczonowicz and Strawinski: a double cross truncated on the lower left bar, helmet decoration three ostrich feathers, the Puzlowski: instead of the cross an unfeathered arrow with half a pointed iron, crossed by a shaft in the form of an X, the Scheliha and Szolkowski: carry the family coat of arms, moon silver without cross, helmet decoration three ostrich feathers.
