Nowakowski (feminine form: Nowakowska, plural: Nowakowscy). It is one of the most popular surnames in Poland - it is worn by about 50 thousand. Persons. This surname is one of the variants of the surname Nowak , it means a person who accepts the faith, a novice. At least part of the Nowakowski family is of aristocratic origin. These people seal themselves with the coats of arms of: Cholewa , Krociusz , Nowina , Friend , Sas , Ślepowron .

Nowakowski of the lepowron coat of arms (vol. 11 p. 317)

Nowakowski of the Slepowron coat of arms 

Nowakowski ( Krociusz, Trzy Księżyce var. ) - Polish noble coat of arms is based on the coat of arms of Italian origin Krociusz .    

Three variants of this coat of arms are known. The most common are: on a blue field three silver moons in reverse order, arranged in two rows. Three ostrich feathers over the crowned helmet.  

The coat of arms comes directly from the almost identical coat of arms of Krociusz ( Strocki II), with the difference, however, that the moons were arranged in a row. This coat of arms was first awarded to the Nowakowski family of neophytes in 1764 . Unfortunately the certificate of appointment has not been received.       

Some heraldic studies probably mistakenly define Nowakowski's coat of arms as Krociusz or Trzy Księżyce due to the similarity between them. In several heraldic books, the Nowakowski family is referred to as its own coat of arms or as Trzy Księżyce , without giving a description of the coat of arms.     

M. Mises in the book Z rodu Żydowskiego gives: Nowakowscy des Trzy Księżyce coat of arms, in 1853 Franciszek Nowakowski became the Trzy Księżyce coat of arms in Radom as the son of Franciszek, grandson of Tomasz and great-grandson of Nowakowski. identified, a Lithuanian neophyte. In 1787 Stanisław identified himself . in Galicia from the same family .    

In the herbarium of Kasper Niesiecki we can read the coat of arms "Trzy Księżyce" (vol. 9, p. 142) : This was the coat of arms of Dyonizy, and according to our Dziwisz the bishop of Poznań, who according to Długosz in Vit. Episkop. Poses. he left this world in 1106, but that there is no family in Poland who can be proud of this jewel, so I do not put it here or describe it.

The coat of arms book of the Polish families by J. Ostrowski describes the coat of arms as follows:  

NOWAKOWSKI I, Strocyusz, Krocyusz, Three Moons - In the blue field - three golden crescent moons: two and one with horns on the right. Three ostrich feathers over the crowned helmet.
