There’s a monster in my refrigerator. No, really. And as with anything involving monsters and food and the mayhem that results when said food runs out, it just wasn’t cool. Heh.
I saw him late one night while getting a bowl of cereal. Yeah, I know. Cereal’s for breakfast. Duh! But who doesn’t like a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch (Especially Churros!) before going to bed? (Don’t you dare raise your hand!) Anyways, I was watching a movie involving a lighthouse and a creature living in the sea. Yeah, that one! I had no idea that the scraggly guy with the beard was going to fall in love with that mermaid-looking thing with sharp teeth. (Ooh, those teeth!)
The more I watched, the more frightened I got. I mean, what the heck? Is that what it’s like when getting your first kiss? You get all close and tight and when that beautiful something before you smiles, you take a gander at those sharp, crooked, rotting, missing teeth?
Well, perhaps if I lived in Alabama.
In the end, I’d expended too much energy. (Teeth!) Might the sea creature shave off the dude’s beard with her razor-like tongue and keep it for herself? Bleck! No more bearded sea creature maidens for me.
As I pushed towards the climax of the film, there was only one thing that could level my fright and offer an inkling of comfort. “Snack time!” I paused the movie and jumped off the couch.
It was already half past midnight and mom and dad were fast asleep. (Nighty night mommy and daddy and that good-for-nothing cat Marbles!) Technically it was morning, so I shouldn’t have felt bad about eating breakfast late at night. What can I say? The power of Cinnamon Toast compelled me.
I know, I know. I’m getting way off-topic here. (Cinnamon Toast Crunch tends to do that to you.) In the end, I grabbed the box, shook it around and...
“What the heck?!” My voice was so loud I nearly woke mom and dad.
How could the box be empty, save a few scraps? Sure, I had a bowl or two earlier, but they were small bowls. Seriously. All that was left was an old box of Count Chocula in the pantry. How old? Well, it was probably packaged around the same time Bram Stoker published Dracula.
I know, YIKES. But bear with me. I’m getting to the point. Really, I am!
So I grumbled, grabbed the box of stale cereal and headed towards the refrigerator. I was about to open the door when I noticed it was already open. Not by much. A crack, no more. Still, all the cold air was escaping out the side and...
UGH! I could not help but grind my teeth together.
One thing that annoys me more than anything is when someone leaves the refrigerator door open for too long. Really, I HATE IT! Even when mommy cleans it out. (Come on, ma. Close the door! The Cinnamon Toast Crunch gods are frowning on us.) Milk is always the first to get warm since it’s on the shelf on the door and...GRR! No one wants to eat stale cereal with WARM MILK!
“Right.” I shook my head then scratched it a bit. And when I swung open the door with my one free hand, I had expected to find a half-empty jug of milk. Instead I found... “Oh, no. It can’t be!” I gasped.
A monster was drinking my milk!
