Candy sets off to bring back the stolen Christmas. Her journey led through Sweden to the North Pole. In Sweden, she meets, among others, the Ice Queen, Luna, who shares her secretly kept heartache with Candy. Later, in the coniferous forest of Sweden, three tiny little elves and other forest animals helped Candy find the most hidden tip of the North Pole, where Santa and his elves live and work year-round to surprise the children. Then a fairy reveals that the thief headed for the North Pole after stealing the reindeers of the Lapps. But to find out what happens next, read the book.

Hello children!

Since we did not meet before, I think it´s in place to present myself. I´m Candy, a Norwegian Forest Cat, and I want to tell you my story about how I found the lost Christmas through my journey to the North Pole. As you know, last year was a bit different one. Great evil spread over the world, and loved ones had to keep their distance. People lived in great anxiety and unawareness of what tomorrow will bring. Christmas was just not happening, and as I sat at my fireplace, I felt alone, as we all experience once in a while. Everything seemed empty and meaningless. My human mum was just sitting in her rocking chair and looked tired and sad. I was dreaming about those Christmas times when I could celebrate this wonderful holiday in the company of all the good things it used to offer. I dreamed about the tasty holiday foods we usually eat; carp soup, fried fish, candied apple, and poppy seed roll just like grandma used to make it; and the excitement I felt before opening the presents. Not even my warm chocolate tasted the same. I wished to feel once more the joy and happiness I once felt. First, I did not really know what was missing, but then I realized that it was the warmth of love, giving, and happiness. I lost hope. Yes, my darlings, I needed something to see forward to. Something that would reawake my dreams and beliefs and would bring joy back to my life, in everybody’s life. So this year, I decided that I would not let the same thing to happen. I was determined to do whatever it takes to bring Christmas back to all living. I will not return without Christmas joy.

This year winter arrived early, and hence, I began my journey on a cold November evening when people had just finished their supper and started to enjoy their evening in front of their TV set and fireplace. I started out from my little mining village; in north Hungary; there I was living at this time with my human mum. It was a very tidy little village in the most beautiful environment, between dense forests and high mountains and with a small creek wandering through it. This evening the settlement was unusually quiet, but still cozy with its lively shimmering Christmas lights. Not even the dogs were barking under the pale crescent moon, and the shadows of the cottages were almost nonexistent. Even the vehicles, which usually brought vibrate life to the village, were now at rest. The streets were deserted and waited impatiently to be filled again with laughter. And the air…, the air was so crispy and cold. Now I would lie if I told you that I was not afraid. I did not really know where to begin and which way to go. But since I knew how much Christmas meant for all the people in the world, I continued my way deeply committed to my plans. I was both excited and anxious at the same time. My heartbeat was rising and I felt a bit dizzy with every breath I took. My footsteps were slightly crackling as I carefully wobbled forward on the snow-covered, icy ground. As I left the village behind and got all closer to the forest, the twinkling lights of the settlement diminished more and more until it became so dark that I thought I was blind. And when I entered the dark forest on the mountainside, the trees looked like white-clad giants in the gloomy night. I heard bone-cutting noises from every direction. I was thinking to give up and return home when I remembered how sad mum had been. So with a heavy heart, I looked back at my peacefully sleeping village one last time, and then just kept going deeper and deeper into the forest.

Passing through the dark forested mountains, suddenly I spotted something shivering behind an old silver pine. It was the angel of Christmas. At the first sight, however, you couldn´t tell that she was an angel. She looked more like the most beautiful child I had ever seen. She had wavy, golden blond hair, soft like silk, and big, bright blue eyes with lashes like butterflies. She wore an emerald green robe that was garnished with tiny gold flowers and had a matching golden belt and shoes to it. At first, I got scared, but then I heard her sobbing silently and realized that she was crying. When I approached her, she put her face quickly into her hands to hide and cover up her tears. I stroked myself gently to her in comfort, and just like that, she slowly stopped sniffing. Then with silvery tears still firmly sitting in the corner of her eyes and despairingly, she told me that she was in big trouble. The other angels thought that it was her fault that Christmas disappeared, for she did not do her job properly - she moaned. They were bullying her and shut her out of the circle of angels. And this…, this is the worst punishment an angel can get. Before she could start crying again, I explained to her that I was also looking for Christmas. I told her about how sad mum had been since Christmas disappeared and how people lost their faith. However, none of us had any clue of what to do next and where to look for the missing holiday. And since we both were freezing, I scrambled closer up to the angel to keep warm. As we were sitting there, trembling from the chilling cold, she suddenly remembered that some days ago, she saw a big Shadow wandering northward and that it could be this Shadow who might have stolen Christmas. However, she could not remember much detail about the Shadow since she got frightened, and went to hide as quickly as she could behind the old silver pine and closed her eyes in the hope, that she will become invisible. And when she dared to open her eyes again, there was not even a trace after the Shadow. I tried desperately to help her remember more, but it seemed pointless, so we decided that we both needed a little sleep.

The next morning, as a sign of her appreciation for holding her warm during the night, the angel handed me a beautiful collar with a moonstone in it, and then she asked me what I wished the most. I became so happy that I cracked up with joy. “This is my first Christmas gift for such a long time”
