About the Machine:

Lightning Motorcycles manufactures the highest performing and most advanced electric motorcycles in the world. It´s halo product, LS-218, pushes the boundaries of what is possible for an electric super bike.

The picture of performance that the Lightning LS-218 paints is pretty spectacular. If Lightning are to be believed, the LS-218 tops out at a top speed of over 350km/h, having clocked that speed during a speed run on the Bonneville salt flats last year.

Even cooler, they set that record on Solar Energy, meaning the total cost of said speed run amounted to little over $1 AUD.

It's previously also hit over 346mph as confirmed by the SCTA, which would make it the fastest production bike in the world by some stretch — the previous fastest road-legal bike is Kawasaki's Ninja H2, which boasts a respectable top speed of 337.06 km/h.

As it's super-efficient, the bike also has an effective range of about 250km, and is capable of fast-charging in 30 minutes when hooked up to a DC charger. The few LS-218s remaining are up for sale in the US now for over $50,000 AUD a piece, which admittedly is a lot for a motorcycle. Two entry level variants, named the Strike and the Strike Carbon edition, are also planned which will enter the market in the far more realistic $20 kAUD price bracket.

BLOOD MARY

The story suggests that the cocktail is named the Bloody Mary after Queen Mary Tudor of England, best known for her cruel and incredibly violent actions against Protestants in the 1500s. The vodka in the cocktail is meant to symbolize the Queen’s fiery and wicked temper, while the red color of the tomato juice represents the bloodshed.

Whether it's over brunch or before hopping on an airplane, the Bloody Mary is a firmly entrenched cultural icon.

Let´s make a Bloody Mary

Ingredients

large handful of ice

100 ml vodka

500 ml tomato juice

1 tbsp lemon juice, plus 2 slices to serve

few shakes Worcestershire sauce

few shakes Tabasco (smoked Tabasco is nice)

pinch celery salt

pinch black pepper

2 celery sticks, to serve

Directions

STEP1

Place the ice in a large jug. Measure the vodka, tomato juice and lemon juice and pour it straight onto the ice.

STEP2

Add 3 shakes of Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco (or more if you like it very spicy) and a pinch of celery salt and pepper. Stir until the outside of the jug feels cold, then strain the cocktail into 2 tall glasses.

STEP3

Top up with fresh ice, add a celery stick and lemon slice to both glasses and enjoy.
