Strength

and

Support

-

Spine

gives

strength

to

the

body

and

it

also

provides

the

support

to

the

heavy

weight

of

the

skull.

Cervical

region

support

the

Thoracic

region

offers

strength

and

stability

to

the

middle

part

of

Lumbar

region

carry

the

most

of

body's

weight

and

allows

movements.

With

the

help

of

muscles,

ligament

and

tendon,

spine

distribute

body's

weight.

Movement

-

Special

design

of

spine

and

its

accompanying

structures

like

muscles,

tendons,

ligaments

and

so

forth,

enable

the

body

to

move

in

various

ways,

for

example,

bowing,

extending,

turning

and

inclining.

Protection

of

Nerves

-

Spinal

column

provides

protection

to

the

delicate

nerves

and

the

spinal

cord,

which

helps

to

control

the

functions

of

our

body.

Vertebrae,

muscles

and

ligaments

attached

to

spine,

form

a

network

of

protection

that

keeps

the

spinal

cord

from

getting

injured.

Blood

Supply

-

The

vertebral

bones

of

spine

produce

lot

of

red

blood

cells

and

minerals

from

its

bone

marrow.

There

are

two

types

of

bone

marrow;

red

and

yellow.

Red

bone

marrow

is

responsible

for

the

production

of

red

blood

cells,

platelets

and

white

blood

cells,

while

yellow

bone

marrow

contains

high

levels

of

fat

cells

and

also

produces

some

amounts

of

white

blood

cells.

Protection

of

Major

Organs

-

Thoracic

vertebrae

provides

a

these

are
