About audiobooks
Hallo
Thank you for reading this story about Amanda and help build more understanding and acceptance of autism.
I hope that the story can be a good base for conversation on what it is like to be autistic and what autism is.
I am myself autistic and have ADHD.
The two diagnoses can be very similar, both in pros and cons, and because of that, my experiences and descriptions will be based on both.
The story can be read as a single tale or used as a starting point when you have specific topics you need to talk about.
I must emphasize that I have no medical background, and that the book is based on my experience of being autistic, in a world where autistic people do not always fit in.
I firmly believe that
From Communications grows knowledge,
knowledge brings understanding,
and understanding makes the World a better place.

Thank you to Jacob, Mathilde, and Rasmus because you believed in me and did not grow tired of hearing about Amanda.
Hallo
This is Amanda She likes to draw, listen to music and the loves unicorns.
As you can see, Amanda is an elephant, but you cannot see that she is autistic.
Autism isn´t something that you can see, it is called a hidden disability, because it is not visible in the same way as missing a leg or an arm.
Therefore, it can be difficult to know that you yourself have autism, and for your family, friends, and the wider world to understand what autism is and why it affects your world in the way it does.
When you are autistic, your brain is wired in a different way from most others.
Autism is called a developmental disability, and it can sound bad because disability has negative connotations.
But it is important to remember that it is called a disability because you are different from the standard.
And while there are more "non autists” (typical) than autists in the world, us autists will be called different (atypical ).
It is only a word, and it is extremely important to remember that an autistic brain isn't broken, or wrong in any way, but is just wired differently from other peoples.
In some ways it can be good, to have different wiring, in others it can be hard,
It means that you think, feel, and experience the world in a different way than others.
The human body is made from genes, which means that a child is made from a mixture of its parents’ genes.
No-one really knows why someone is autistic, even though there are many doctors and scientist all round the world that have- and are researching it.
At this point it have been discovered that autism is due to genetic differences.
When you are autistic, your brain is built of the same bricks as everyone else’s, but it works and connects in a very different way.
Sometimes it can make things very strange that your brain is wired in a different way.
