“Speaking my truth I know that you’ve heard about me.
I spent all my nights and days, laid back day dreaming.
Tell the world that I paint this Empire.
And when I do it, I don’t look back.
I walk with vengeance, completely focused because my mind is open.
It took a while but now I understand just where I’m going.
If you want to know who I am then it’s time that I show it.
Its only nature that I live for danger because I am no longer trying to survive.
I’ve dug my way out of blood and fire but it didn’t slow me down.
Because look I’m still around”

Dark and bleak, the world she no longer speaks. To survive my world you must no longer speak. Drenched in blood we are no longer meek for we are what they call the Commanders of Dendumbleak.
My name is Masika that is the name the Empire gives you when you are an orphan. I hail from the land of Nova, one of the five provinces that somehow made it after so many years of continuous wars.
A Royal Family emerged that rules over the Capital Babel, Kiva, Nova, Pukka and Uma. Because of the countless wars that kept on breaking out from time to time, Emperor Zindaba decreed that whenever a child turns sixteen they are to immediately join the army for their mandatory military training.
At eighteen the child graduates from the army and has the choice of either continuing with the army or choosing a civilian life with the possibility of being called upon at any time to serve the Empire.
Since I am an orphan I did not have much to go back to if I chose to leave the army and so I decided that it was in my best interest to stay. I did rise up the ranks fairly easily and by the time I turned twenty two, I was a very well-known and feared Commander tasked with the job of whipping into shape all new recruits, since the main army base is located in Nova.
“There you are Commander Masika, I was beginning to think that you would not show up for the induction of the fresh meat” Deputy Commander Lubona says as I approach him. “And miss out on all the fun, never!” I say with a laugh.
As we make our way to the arena, I notice a few Royal Guards standing by idly trying their best to go unnoticed but to a trained eye, they were easy to pick out. It is as though they want me to spot them out I think to myself.
Gaining the attention of the Royal Guards is never a good thing because it is either they want to recruit you as their own or the Emperor wants you gone and from my point of view, I want neither one of those options.
When they begin to slowly advance, I know that that’s my cue to get out of the open immediately. “Lubona distract them for me” I whisper calmly to him before he pulls out his guns and charges straight for them.
I cannot help but roll my eyes at him, after years of training he still acts like a hopeless recruit I think to myself before I think to find a safe hiding place until this ordeal has passed.
But it seems as though Lubona’s distraction has not worked at all because the Royal Guards are now hot on my trail. I decide that the roofs are a better option for me but I do not make it far because the roof I choose to stand on immediately collapses under my weight.
I end up in the meeting hall and somehow manage to save my dignity and reputation by landing on my feet in a battle stance. When I see the Royal Guards approaching me cautiously, I quickly pull out my guns as do there’s, ready to fight.
What I do not realise is that I am in the presence of the Emperor and it is only when he speaks that realisation catches up with me. “Everybody out, except you” Emperor Zindaba says in a baritone voice that has everyone except me scampering for the nearest exit.
“May I know why you were about to kill my guards?” Emperor Zindaba questions me. ”You tell me since they are your Royal Guards” I respond as I put my guns away.
“It is a great honour to be a Royal Guard” Emperor Zindaba counters as he watches me too intensely for my liking. “True but I am already a Commander with a vicious reputation” I confess feeling very much uneasy.
“Oh you are Commander Masika then; I’ve heard very good things about you. Very well, if you do not wish to go to with my Royal Guards then I will inform them to leave you be” Emperor Zindaba says with a knowing look on his face like he is keeping significant information away from me.
“Thank you” I say as I slightly bow my head and exit the meeting hall using the entrance this time round. “Oh good there you are, I was afraid that you had been captured” Deputy Commander Lubona says as he runs towards me. “I can see that you have very little faith in me but no matter, I have spoken to the Emperor and will not be going anywhere” I inform Lubona triumphantly.
After my encounter with Emperor Zindaba, I am still very much uneasy and so I decided to take the rest of the day off, ah the perks of being an Enforcer. I enter one of the practice halls reserved only for the Commanders and began to practice my battle stances.
I always carry with me two sets of swords for we believe that death by sword is far more honourable death than death by bullet. But I am not adverse to using guns since I have four separate guns strategically positioned on my body.
A familiar song begins to play in my head and I promptly close my eyes and draw out both of my swords. I am so lost in my practice that I completely fail to notice that another person has entered the practice hall and is watching me very intently.
When I do eventually open my eyes, both of my swords are firmly positioned on the neck of the Emperor and I have drawn blood but the most bizarre thing is that he has a genuine smile on his face.
“You are even better than I expected” Emperor Zindaba compliments me before he turns his back on me leaving me to stare at his rescinding back. “Oh and tomorrow you will be part of my convoy back to the Palace” Emperor Zindaba announces as a sort of afterthought before he completely disappears.
“What are you doing, I thought you weren’t leaving” Deputy Commander Lubona questions me as I angrily pack up my belongings. “It seems that I was wrong because the Emperor wants me to be part of his convoy tomorrow. Do me a favour and get some of the recruits to finish packing my belongings” I say to Lubona in an irritated voice.
“Will do, but do you have any idea why he wants you to accompany him to the Palace?” Deputy Commander Lubona questions. “Whatever it is, I will be back before you know it. I wasn’t meant to live in Babel sitting around doing nothing all day long. I am literally trained as the ultimate killing machine” I respond with a proud smile as I vaguely recall my gruesome training days.
