It is not another poverty to rich story. Neither is it about making it out of the slump, pulling up the bootstraps and the sun will come out tomorrow. It is emptied of clichés and has just about the right amount of holes to make you into a hole-filler. And, it is definitely not a Cinderella story either. No, not this book.Journey with Cindy, as she encountered some horrific and frightening incidents on the way to the tiny back-water village she called home. She survived, with the help of some well-placed angels, riots, gang violence, fires, and other hellish things in her preteen years. And though those experiences were brutal at times, they kept her steady in the face of some of life’s toughest challenges.Hardened by life, before her eleventh birthday, by tragedies seen - and in some cases, experienced, it took years to mellow through counting-to-ten techniques and learn to hold in the spikes and snappy comebacks. To stay away from negativity and full-blown pessimism with a sarcastically trained tongue.Whether being chased by madmen, thieves and being shot at by Rangers, just for quenching the thirst with canes, she made sure that every move she made was in the calculation of what the next move should be.Imagine how one tiny move on a drawing board can catastrophically change the ending of an image. This is truly how one should view life on a whole; one move. One move forward or backward changes the position you are in. How you act or react after you’ve made that move is entirely up to you, but always keep in mind, you should aim to learn something from the move. This journey all started with one tiny village move. A village not listed on the country’s map, neither could found with a GPS or tourist map.Your journey begins.

Acknowledgments

Thank you for purchasing my books.

Thank you to all the members of the little village. Deep in the heart of St. Catherine, Jamaica, behind the sugar cane fields and amid the viciousness of the location, you have taught me some great survival skills. Very much appreciated.

To my husband Victor, I can’t thank you enough. You have been a silent supporter of all that interests me, both financially and emotionally. I am grateful.

My parents, James and Eulalee Hibbert, thank you. Grateful for my children, Mikhail A., and Krystyna R. To my siblings, many of your pranks and fun were mentioned. Thanks for the experiences.

Almighty God, You are the giver of all things good. This placement here is by no means least, but of importance. Without You, I could not have reached this far. Thank you for the memories of all things; good and bad.

Introduction

I am not my circumstances. I am not the place I grew up. My environment will not break me. I can change my life, for better. Those words ran through my head and helped me during some difficult days and nights.

It wasn’t easy growing up in that pit that my family inadvertently landed us in. It was tough, to say the least, but I must say that with determination and a few well-placed angels, I’ve survived riots, gang violence, fires, and other hellish things in the preteen years. And though those experiences were brutal at times, they held me steady in the face of some of life’s toughest challenges.

To be candid, I was hardened by life before I got to my eleventh birthday. Hardened by tragedies seen - and in some cases, experienced.

Imagine how one tiny move on a drawing board can catastrophically change the ending of an image. This is truly how one should view life on a whole; one move. One move forward or backward changes the position you are in. How you act or react after you’ve made that move is entirely up to you, but always keep in mind, you should aim to learn something from the move.

Mine started with one tiny village move.

People that know me may say I am the opposite of a hardened person, as they know me as a soft-spoken gentle human being. But truth be known, it took years for me to mellow through counting-to-ten techniques and learn to hold in the spikes and snappy comebacks. I learned to stay away from negativity. I turned away from full-blown pessimism with a sarcastically trained tongue. I trusted little and believed even less.

Well, instead of me telling you all, come walk with me to that tiny village that we called home for quite a number of years - until one fatal move. This book might just help you to consider your next move.

Chapter One

Mama and papa decided to move to a tiny village, located in the middle of nowhere, although it was surrounded by everything. Surrounded by everything that was wrong, that is.

I had never heard of the village before. Neither mama nor papa spoke about it. It was very remote. In fact, the word outdated described it better. The place was so far removed from major towns, not even a small city was nearby. The name, Windsor Village, was not even written on the countrys road map. You couldnt locate it with a magnifying glass, GPS or a tourist roadmap. Per chance, it might look like a fleck of dust via satellite.

It was an idyllic-looking village; sugar cane and fruit trees; mangoes and coconut, lined both sides of the roadway. Ponds with fishes, rivers one could swim in, and frankly, we couldn't be happier. Ecstatic even! It was a picture of perfection.
