Beschreibung

This is the story about how a dad tries to distract his daughter when she has hurt herself or feels ill. These are all real moments. Written by Andrew Rogerson, this book is for anyone who enjoys reading time with their children. It especially highlights the unique relationship between a father and his daughter and shows how acting silly can sometimes distract and defuse a tricky situation. The book is beautifully illustrated by Christopher Dodd who has a unique perspective because he has known the author for many years and has seen Poppy grow up from being a toddler. The illustrations offer an insight into the world of books and well-known children's characters providing a wonderful point of discussion between parent and child.

Dedication

This book is dedicated to dads everywhere but to OUR dads especially.

Thank you to...

Wendi. If you hadn’t trusted me with looking after the children from time to time there would be no stories to tell.

Kirsty, Loren, Sam and Poppy for all the times you hurt yourselves growing up. I’m sorry if I didn’t know what to do.

Chris and Ben. Chris for your beautifully hand drawn and lovingly imagined images. Ben for your advice and guidance.

Arabelle and Eliza. For your expert critique and editorial ideas.

Dad! I’ve Hurt myself!

“Dad I’ve hurt myself,” cried Poppy at breakfast one morning.

“What have you done?” asked Dad.

“I’ve cut my finger!” and she hopped from one foot to another.

6

7“Oh dear! Let me see. We might have to chop it off!” said Dad smiling.

But dad didn’t really chop it off, did he?

What he really did was wet a piece of tissue and wrap it around Poppy’s sore finger.

Then they sat down together and watched a nature programme on tv with a cup of tea and a chocolate digestive.

What biscuits make you feel better?

8

9Another time Poppy was riding her bike down a hill when she crashed into a caravan with a crash and a bang, a clatter and a clang.

It sounded like a big pink elephant sitting on a very small car.

Dad was watching as she ran to him crying. “Daaaaad. I’ve cut my knee!”

“I hope you didn’t break the caravan!” Dad teased.

11Through her tears, Poppy looked out to check if the caravan was still there. It was. And while she was checking, Dad put a plaster on her knee.
