The power transmission process, from generation to distribution is described and expressions for resistance, inductance and capacitance of high-voltage power transmission lines are developed used to determine the equivalent circuit of a three-phase transmission line. Part B is divided to different learning outcomes

  • LO2- Develop expressions for resistance, inductance and capacitance of high-voltage power transmission lines and determine the equivalent circuit of a three-phase transmission line.

Part A includes my lecture notes for electrical power generation course. The layout, main components, and characteristics of common electrical power generation plants are described with application to various thermal power plants.

• Eexplain the main principle of operation of the transformer and the generator.
b) LO2: Describe the main components and characteristics of thermal powerplants.
• Identify the structure and the main components of thermal powerplants.
• Describe various types of boilers and combustionprocess.
• List types of turbines, explain the efficiency of turbines, impulse turbines, reaction turbines, operation and maintenance, and speed regulation, and describe turbogenerator.
• Explain the condenser cooling - waterloop.
• Discuss thermal power plants and the impact on theenvironment.
