Important Considerations

Today is the day to witness Healings and Miracles. Christians have the authority to cast out demons and lay hands on the sick.

When we receive the Holy Spirit's baptism after becoming Christians, we receive dunamis, the Holy Spirit's miracle-working power. Here's a simple prayer for obtaining the Holy Spirit's baptism: "Jesus, Lord, As a child of God, you said in (Luke 11:13) that I can ask for the gift of the Holy Spirit. You also stated in (Acts 1:4-8) that when I am baptized with the Holy Spirit, I will acquire authority.

So, Lord, in the Name of Jesus, I pray that You baptize me in the Holy Spirit right now, just as you did on the day of Pentecost. I may not feel any different, but I am receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit's power right now because of my faith. Lord, thank you! Amen."

Believe that you have received the Holy Spirit's authority to carry out the Great Commission if you really prayed this prayer in confidence. This means you can now pray in tongues and hear what the Holy Spirit is speaking to you.

I strongly encourage you to begin praying in tongues on a daily basis, but even if you haven't started praying in tongues, you are likely to be able to lay hands on individuals and see miraculous healings.

Miracles serve primarily to point people to Jesus. (See John 10:25, 37-38, 12:37, 14:11, and 20:30-31 for more information.)

Always remember that all glory belongs to God, so take no credit for yourself.

What about the concept that illnesses, diseases, and injuries, among other things, are not "crosses" that must be overcome? Take a look at what Jesus had to say about it: "And He said to all, If anyone wishes to follow Me, let him deny himself - that is, forget, lose sight of himself and his own interests, refuse and give up himself - and take up his cross daily and follow Me [that is, cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if necessary, in dying]."

Luke 9:23

Take a moment to consider what it means to "take up our cross." In the Amplified Version of the Bible, Jesus says that we must lose sight of ourselves and our interests, and give up our own wishes, plans, objectives, ambitions, and ideas.

"Taking up our cross" involves imitating Jesus and being "dead to self," as the apostle Paul put it: "I have been crucified with Christ and no longer live, but Christ lives in me." (2 Corinthians 2:10; Galatians 2:20)

Consider how Jesus denied Himself His own desires and goals, instead focusing solely on what the Father commanded Him to do: I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can only do what he sees his Father do, since whatever the Father does, the Son also does," Jesus responded. (Matthew 5:19)

"I can accomplish nothing by myself; I only judge what I hear, and my judgment is just, since I aim to satisfy the one who sent me, not myself." (Luke 5:30)

"When you hoist up the Son of Man, you will know that I am the one I claim to be, and that I do nothing on my own but express exactly what the Father has taught me," Jesus remarked. (Luke 8:28)

"Do you not believe I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I speak to you aren't solely mine. Rather, it is the Father, who lives within me, who is at work." (Luke 14:10)

The crucifixion is a site of death, not a symbol of hardships that we must bear (as many people believe). Just as Jesus did, the Bible encourages us to die to our "self" nature (any attitudes, decisions, motives, etc.) that do not align with God's intentions and timing. "Wearing our cross" does not imply being ill or suffering from incapacitating diseases or injuries.

Jesus purchased not just our redemption but also our healing when he was viciously tortured and brutally killed.

The prophet Isaiah, for example, predicted that Jesus would bear our infirmities, carry our sorrows, be pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities, punished for our peace, and wounded for our healing: "Despite the fact that he took up our infirmities and bore our sorrows, we considered him to be afflicted by God, smitten by him. But he was wounded for our sins, crushed for our iniquities; he bore the punishment that brought us peace, and we are healed by his wounds." (See Isaiah 53:4-5)

Christians tend to believe the portions of this prophecy about salvation that were fulfilled when Jesus died for our sins, but we can't just focus on the parts of Scripture that we like and overlook the parts that we don't.

If the sections of Isaiah's prophesy about salvation apply to us (and they do), then the parts about healing must also apply to us. (Isaiah 53:4-5) declares unequivocally that Jesus would carry our sins (buying our salvation) and our illnesses (purchasing our healing).

Even though Jesus died 2000 years ago to pay for our sins, sinners are not automatically pardoned. They must have faith in order to be forgiven of their sins (Acts 26:18). Because Jesus paid for our recovery 2000 years ago, healing works in a similar way. However, we must receive healing by faith (Luke 18:42). Because Jesus has already paid for the healing, we can believe that they will be healed when faith is present (just as we get salvation by faith).

Christians frequently enquire, "Why do we need to put our hands on ill people? When we pray for people, I think God can cure them."

There is no doubt that prayer is highly essential, and God does sometimes cure individuals when we pray for them. But, as you can see, that isn't the problem. The difficulty is that Jesus has asked us to continue His earthly ministry until He returns for us at the end of the age in order to fulfill the Great Commission. This implies that we are to preach the Gospel to others, heal the sick, and cast out devils.

People brought all who were sick to Jesus in (Luke 4:40), for example. Isn't it true that Jesus could have snapped His fingers and instantly healed all of them? He, on the other hand, did not. "Laying his hands on each one, he healed them," the scripture states.

It must have taken a long time for Him to lay hands on each and every one of those sick individuals, but it is one of God's primary techniques for supernatural healing. As a result, both Jesus and we must be obedient. In fact, sick people frequently implored Jesus to lay His hands on them, knowing that the laying-on of hands was a common way of healing (see Matthew 9:18 and Mark 8:22, for example). Signs and marvels were performed "by the hands of the apostles," according to the original Greek (Acts 5:12). (see for example the Amplified Version and the King James Version). The laying-on of hands was elementary, foundational teaching for new Christians, according to (Hebrews 6:1-2). (John 14:11-12) claims that Christians will do the same miracles as Jesus, including healing the sick. According to Mark 16:17-18, believers will lay their hands on sick people and they will recover.

Why do we feel the desire to touch people? We do it because Jesus told us to (Mark 16:18 and John 14:12). If Jesus had told us to heal people in a different method, that's how we'd have to go about it. It is not our responsibility to dispute our Master's judgment; it is our obligation to be submissive to Him!

"Why do you say I have to speak in tongues in order to lay hands on the sick?" is another question that people occasionally ask.

It's not so much that you have to talk in tongues to lay hands on someone; it's just that speaking in tongues is the standard, scriptural indication of receiving the Holy Spirit's baptism.

The Holy Spirit's power is given to us when we are baptized with the Holy Spirit, according to Jesus.

Because we must choose to open our mouths and speak, speaking in tongues does not always happen instantly when we receive the Holy Spirit's baptism. Furthermore, our analytical minds do not like to relinquish control and allow us to speak aloud words that are coming from our spirits, which makes praying in tongues difficult for many people. As a result, I believe that people can get this Spirit baptism without uttering anything in tongues right away, whether they are saved straight away or later.

They have the power to pray in tongues, but they either don't realize they have it (due to incorrect teaching) or don't know how to speak forth the words that come from their souls. For example, I led my mother through a prayer to receive the Holy Spirit's baptism, but she couldn't keep her thoughts out of the way long enough for the words to come up in tongues. My mother, on the other hand, has healed individuals by placing her hands on them. So, in my opinion, my mother has received the Holy Spirit's baptism and has the potential to pray in tongues according to Scripture, but she has not done so yet.

Although speaking in tongues is the most common visible sign of being baptized with the Holy Spirit, I believe that a person can be baptized with the Holy Spirit without speaking in tongues right away.

Regardless of your opinion on tongues, I recommend that you lay hands on the sick in trust. If God isn't confirming His Word for you by healing others, it's possible that it's because you haven't received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the (normal) evidence of speaking in tongues, as Jesus promised.

Healing and Faith

Faith is really important for healing. This is a novel approach to faith and healing. First and foremost, notice how Jesus was unable to perform miracles when there was a lack of faith: "When the Sabbath arrived, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many people were astonished to hear him. They inquired, "Where did this man get these things?" "What is this wisdom that has been bestowed to him that enables him to perform miracles? Isn't this the carpenter we're talking about? Isn't this Mary's son, as well as James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon's brother? Isn't one of his sisters with us?" They were offended by him.

"A prophet is without honor only in his hometown, among his relatives, and in his own house," Jesus told them.

He couldn't perform any miracles there except heal a few sick folks with his hands. He was also astounded by their lack of trust. (Matthew 6:2-6)

According to the aforementioned verse, a few individuals in Jesus' hometown were healed, but Jesus was unable to perform miracles there due to their lack of faith! (See also Matthew 13:58.) In this verse, the Greek word for "able" fundamentally means "to be able" (The Complete Word Study Dictionary of the New Testament, Spiros Zodhiates, p.485) and is used in a negative sense ("not able").

We can see that Jesus performed miracles both before and after (Mark 6:2-6 above) in the Gospel of Mark, therefore it's logical to conclude that He still had the ability to do miracles when He was in His hometown.

So, other from laying hands on a few people, why was He "unable" to perform miracles in His hometown? This is how a well-known Bible commentary puts it: "Because of the ongoing skepticism, Jesus was only able to perform a few miracles there, such as healing a few ill people. His power was limitless, but His mission was to produce miracles in the presence of faith. Only a few people in this town had enough faith to come to Him for healing." (Walvoord and Zuck, Dallas Theological Seminary, The Bible Knowledge Commentary, p.127, emphasis added).

To put it another way, Jesus had the power to do miracles in His hometown, but He didn't force His power on those who didn't want it. Because of the ongoing skepticism in Jesus' hometown, He was unable to perform any miracles.

A synagogue ruler called Jairus sought Jesus to heal his dying daughter (Mark 5:22-43). A woman who had been bleeding for twelve years touched Jesus' garment and was instantly healed while He was on His way to Jairus' house. Notice how she was healed: "Daughter, your faith has healed you," [Jesus] told her. (Matthew 5:34)

Her faith, Jesus added, was what had healed her. Jairus (the synagogue ruler) found that his daughter had died after this woman was healed.

It's worth noting that Jesus completely ignored the crowd "While Jesus was still speaking, some men arrived from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler, and told him to believe and not to be afraid." They told me, "Your daughter is dead." "What's the use of bothering the teacher any longer?"

"Don't be scared; just believe," Jesus instructed the synagogue ruler, disregarding what they said. (Matthew 5:35–36)

Jesus instantly refuted the "evil rumor" that had been spread, telling Jairus to keep his faith. What did Jesus do when He arrived at Jairus' house and was faced by those who spoke skepticism and unbelief? He expelled all the skeptics from the room: "When they arrived at the synagogue ruler's house, there was a ruckus, with people sobbing and wailing loudly.

He walked in and told them, "Why is there so much turmoil and wailing? The infant is not dead, but is dozing off." They, on the other hand, laughed at him. He took the child's father and mother, as well as the disciples who were with him, into the room where the infant was.

"Talitha cumi!" he murmured as he clasped her hand in his. (which translates to "Little daughter, I tell to you, stand up!") The girl immediately stood up and began walking about (she was twelve years old). (Matthew 5:38-42; Mark 5:38-42)

Even though Jesus had boundless faith, healings and miracles were dependent to some extent on the faith (or lack thereof) of others.

Observe how the miracles occurred as a result of people's faith in the following passages: ""Receive your sight; your faith has healed you," Jesus said. He got his sight right away and followed Jesus, thanking God." (Luke 18:42-43, emphasis added)

Ten men with leprosy approached him as he was walking into a settlement. "Jesus, Master, have pity on us!" they cried out from a distance.

"Go, reveal yourselves to the priests," he said when he saw them. They were cleansed as they walked. When one of them realized he had been healed, he returned, shouting praises to God. He thanked Jesus and fell himself at his feet—and he was a Samaritan. Jesus inquired, "Isn't it true that all ten were cleansed? What happened to the other nine? Is it true that no one else but this foreigner has returned to give God praise?" "Rise and go; your faith has made you healthy," he told him. (17:12-19) (Luke 17:12-19)

Two blind men followed Jesus as he continued on, shouting, "Have pity on us, Son of David!" When he returned indoors, the blind men approached him, and he questioned, "Do you believe I am capable of doing this?" They said, "Yes, Lord."

Then Jesus touched their eyes and said, "It will be done to you according to your faith," and their sight was restored. (Matthew 9:27-30)

"A paralytic, laying on a mat, was carried to him by some guys. "Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven," Jesus responded to the paralytic when he observed their faith. "This fellow is blaspheming!" several of the law professors thought to themselves at this time. Knowing what they are thinking, Jesus asked, "Why do you allow bad ideas to enter your mind? 'Your sins are forgiven,' or 'Get up and walk,' which is easier to say?

But in order for you to understand that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins..." "Get up, take your mat, and go home," he told the paralytic. And the man got up and walked back to his house. (Matthew 9:2–7)

"This guy, whom you see and know, was made strong through faith in the name of Jesus. As you can see, it is Jesus' name and the faith that comes through him that has brought him entire healing." (See Acts 3:16)

"In Lystra, a man with crippled feet, who had been lame since birth and had never walked, sat. He was paying attention to Paul as he spoke. "Stand up on your feet!" Paul exclaimed as he looked him in the eyes and saw that he had trust in being healed. The man leapt to his feet and began walking." (Acts 14:8–10)

"Your faith has healed you," or "According to your faith will it be done to you," Jesus remarked in numerous of these texts. In a few instances, Jesus and the apostles observed someone who had faith in being healed. Several verses claim that the people were healed as a result of their faith-based activities.

What if these folks didn't believe in God? What if the folks who were lame or paralyzed in these passages refused to get up? After all, it must have seemed absurd to Jesus or the apostles to tell a lame person to rise up onto his feet when his legs were obviously not functioning properly! What if (Matthew 12:13) the man had refused to extend his shriveled hand? What if the lame man at Bethesda's pool had refused to get up when Jesus urged him to in (John 5:2-9)?

What if all of these people had expressed their skepticism and disbelief by saying something like, "'Get up,' what exactly do you mean? Isn't it obvious that I'm a jerk?" These people would not have obtained their healing if they had not put their faith into action. After all, Jesus frequently told people, "Your faith has healed you," or "It will be done to you according to your faith."

As you read the Gospels, keep in mind that Jesus used to test people's faith. "You of little faith," he continued, "I have not found such tremendous faith even in Israel," and "Be it done according to your faith," among other things. If you look attentively at all of Jesus' miracles, you'll notice that there were often acts of faith that were carried out by others.

We often say that Jesus transformed water into wine at the wedding in Cana in Galilee (John 2:1-10), but this isn't exactly correct. Even though the servants knew they had filled the six stone water jars with water, Jesus instructed them to take some of the water to the feast master as if it were wine! Jesus' miracles typically necessitated someone's faith action.

Indeed, the stronger the demonstration of faith, the higher the number of miracles that occurred. In the New Testament, for example, there are two instances in which Jesus states that someone has strong faith (Matthew 8:5-13 and Matthew 15:22-28). In both occasions, Jesus healed someone from afar. Jesus didn't need to visit the ill person, touch him, talk to him, or do anything else. Why?

Because someone showed a lot of faith. Only one other time in the Gospels does Jesus heal someone from afar, according to the Bible "The man took Jesus' word for it and left. While he was still on his journey, his staff informed him that his son had survived." (Matthew 4:50-51).

Someone displayed great faith by accepting Jesus' message, and a person was healed from afar.

Now that we know faith plays such an important part in healing, we may better comprehend other healing episodes in the Gospels. People implored Jesus, for example, to let the sick simply touch the edge of His cloak so that they would be healed (Matthew 14:35-36). What was Jesus' reasoning for allowing them to touch His cloak? Why didn't He just reach out and touch them?

They believed that if they touched Jesus' cloak, they would be healed, so He enabled them to put their faith into action, and they were healed.

This could also explain why Jesus performed certain unusual acts in order to heal a number of people: "People brought him a guy who was deaf and couldn't speak, and they pleaded with him to put his hand on him. Jesus pushed his fingers into the man's ears after taking him aside from the crowd.

Then he spit on the man's tongue and touched it. "Ephphatha!" (which means "Be opened!") he cried to him as he looked up to heaven with a long sigh. The man's ears were opened, his tongue was relaxed, and he began to talk clearly at this point." (Matthew 7:32–35)

"They arrived at Bethsaida, and some brought a blind man to Jesus, begging him to touch him. He brought the blind guy outside the village, taking his hand in his. "Do you see anything?" Jesus questioned after spitting in the man's eyes and placing his hands on him. "I see people; they look like trees wandering around," he added, looking up. Jesus placed his hands on the man's eyes once more. Then his eyes were opened, his vision was restored, and he could see perfectly again." (Matthew 8:22–25)

"He then spit on the ground, created mud out of the saliva, and applied it to the man's eyes. "Wash in the Pool of Siloam," he advised (this word means Sent). So the man went and washed, and when he returned home, he saw." (James 9:6-7)

Why did Jesus spit in people's eyes, make mud with His saliva, and so on if He is the Son of God? Isn't His power so vast that He didn't need to do those things at all? Consider that healing is not only the result of Jesus' enormous power, faith, and authority, because we have seen time and time again that people's faith had a role in their healing.

These actions, such as taking these people away from the crowd, spitting in their eyes, making dirt from His saliva, and so on, were probably not essential to increase Jesus' authority or faith, right? They could, however, have contributed to the increase in deaf and blind people's religion.

Based on all of these Biblical examples of how healing works, you will most likely see better outcomes if you have more faith. Showing people the Scriptural proof that healing is "for today," telling them about some of the other healings you've witnessed, having them watch other people get healed, asking them about their theological issues with healing or their doubts and fears about healing, and so on can all help to build faith in people.

People were healed in the New Testament when they put their faith into action, and the same principle holds true today. Many times, after commanding healing in a person's back, for example, the healing manifests itself when the person moves around and bends his back, putting his faith into action.

I'm still learning a lot about the relationship between faith and health (for example, atheists can be healed even if they don't believe!).

Speak as a Leader

Speak with authority if you want to see God heal the sick. You don't have to roar to get people's attention, but you do need to talk authoritatively. When commanding healing to occur, always speak with authority. Say it with sincerity!

An ambassador is the highest-ranking representative designated by one government to represent it to another government, according to the dictionary. An ambassador is an official representative who talks on behalf of the country he represents, with that government's full authority, endorsement, and power. "We are Christ's ambassadors," wrote the apostle Paul (2 Corinthians 5:20, AMP)

"Therefore, clothe yourselves as (God's chosen representatives,) His chosen ones" (Colossians 3:12)

On this earth, you are an ambassador or an agent of Jesus Christ, His selected and hand-picked representative! When you command healing in His Name, you are acting on His behalf, with all of the Lord Jesus Christ's authority, backing, and power. Speak in His Name with authority, for the Name of Jesus is greater than the names of all diseases and demons! When an FBI agent boldly reveals his badge, he expects and usually receives immediate respect. Expect the devil or the sickness to depart when you call forth the name of Jesus!

It's important to note that speaking authoritatively does not imply yelling. Have you ever been in a store and heard a parent yell, "Get over here right now!" at a misbehaving child?

Even if it wasn't loud enough for anybody else to hear, the boy knew he needed to go over there as soon as possible. That is what it is to talk authoritatively.

Jesus healed people in a variety of methods, not using a particular formula. When laying hands on the sick, we must always attempt to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit's leading. The Holy Spirit is the Teacher, and He never ceases to instruct those who are ready to learn and willing to put what they have learned into practice. If you are unwilling to obey what the Holy Spirit teaches you, don't expect the Holy Spirit to teach you new things!

The apostle John declared that the books that could be written on what Jesus did would fill the entire earth (John 21:25).

Because we don't know everything Jesus did, we must explore a variety of approaches in order to treat the ill individual while adhering to the biblical precepts. The goal of this Healing Book is to provide you with some suggestions on how to go about doing so.

If one method doesn't work and the person doesn't get well, pray for guidance from God and try something different (as we will see in Part Four of these handouts). Be tenacious, because God rewards those who persevere (see Luke 11:5-10).

Because it is exactly what Jesus commanded us to do in the Great Commission, you must believe and know that you have been called to do the miraculous in your daily life.

You must also believe without a doubt that Jesus is living His life in and through you. When Jesus was on earth, He lay His hands on people, but when He climbed back into heaven, He took His hands with Him. Now that He has taken up residence in you, you are His hands and feet on the ground! Jesus follows you everywhere you go. Jesus impacts everything you do. When you place your hands on someone, you are also placing your hands on that person. Take a leap of faith and believe that people will be healed. Expect it, and you will witness incredible miracles that will lead many people to faith in Christ. For Jesus in you, nothing is impossible!

When you turn on a light switch, you expect the light to turn on.

It's possible that the light bulb is burned out, but because this doesn't happen very often, you don't need to build up a lot of trust before turning on the light; instead, you simply turn it on with complete confidence that it will turn on. When it comes to healing, the same idea applies. Before laying hands on someone, you don't need to work up a lot of faith; simply do it with the belief that it will work. As your experience with laying hands on the sick grows, so will your level of anticipation. Nobody knows everything there is to know about healing, just as most of us don't know everything there is to know about electricity. We can, however, turn on a light switch!

We can use electricity without fully comprehending it, and we can heal the sick without receiving answers to all of our questions.

When you lay hands on the sick, keep your eyes open so you don't miss the miracles! Tell the person you're laying hands on not to appear "religious" by closing his eyes or frowning solemnly (as many people will), but to smile and relax and keep his eyes open so he may witness his arm or leg grow, tumors fall out, bones straighten out, or whatever the need is. Don't miss out on witnessing the miracles and seeing the person's eyes light up with pleasure when he is instantaneously and miraculously healed!

When God's might enters someone, it can sometimes lead them to fall to the earth (usually backwards).

Make sure there is nothing behind the guy that he might fall upon, or have someone catch him and gently lower him to the ground. When God's immense might is applied to the feeble human body, it occasionally reacts in this way, and sometimes God utilizes a "divine anesthetic" (so to speak) to heal individuals, just as He did for Adam (Genesis 2:21).

Even if your beliefs don't allow for things like "falling out under the might of God," keep this point in mind since God is God and He isn't going to fit into the little boxes that we continually trying to fit Him into. Other people may fall out under the might of God as you lay hands on them (and some people may fall just because they think they're meant to!), so be aware of this potential as you minister healing.

Jesus touched the eyes of the blind (Matthew 9:28-30), put His fingers in the ears of the deaf (Mark 7:33), and touched the tongues of the dumb (Mark 7:33), among other things. It's often ideal to place your hands as close to the afflicted area as possible so that the Holy Spirit's power might be sent straight to the cause of the problem.

However, use caution and common sense. If the issue is in an area where your hands have no business being, have the person place his hand near the problem, and then place your hand on his hand. Also, because you live in a physical body that is prone to disease, don't touch an open sore.

Yes, you could then lay hands on yourself and be healed, but why take the chance? Just because you heal the ill every day doesn't guarantee you'll never get the flu, or that you'll never need glasses, or that you'll never get bald, or anything else. Even if you're sick, you can still lay hands on someone and heal them (just remember to wash your hands and avoid coughing in their faces!). Because Jesus within you never gets sick, your bodily health has no influence on your authority to lay hands on the sick.

The devil (the thief) comes only to steal, murder, and destroy, but Jesus came so that we can have life and have it to the fullest (John 10:10). The devil would try to sow seeds of doubt in people's minds, leading them to believe they were not healed.

He understands that we must feel we have been healed: "If someone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and believes in his heart that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. As a result, I tell you, believe that you have received anything you ask for in prayer, and it will be yours." (Matthew 11:23–24)

The devil is fully aware of this Scripture, and he understands that all he needs to do is instill doubts and anxieties in people's minds. This can obstruct healing and, in some cases, cause a person to lose his healing if he gives in to his doubts.

We are called to live by faith, not sight, as Christians (2 Corinthians 5:7). What you see, hear, think, feel, taste, touch, or smell will not move you.

Our senses are easily deceived, and the devil can also use them to deceive us. Stand firm in God's Word and live by faith rather than sight. To put it another way, don't be scared by people's physical ailments, for God can heal anything!

Explain to the person who has been healed that the devil can sometimes resurrect symptoms in order to cast doubt on God's healing ability. Many people have reported being quickly healed, only to realize that the pain or symptoms had returned after a day or two. Fortunately, some of them were aware that this may happen, so they simply commanded the devil to go in Jesus' name, and the pain or symptoms departed instantaneously. This has happened to folks multiple times after they were touched.

"Devil, you can just take that right back because I'm not signing for that package!" I strongly advise you to tell the devil. and the discomfort will go in an instant! This has happened numerous times.

It's critical that we don't tell individuals to quit taking their prescriptions or anything like that when they're being healed. First and foremost, it would be illegal to practice medicine without a license. Second, the Bible commands us to obey authorities, thus if a person submits to the authority of a doctor, he must obey that doctor. Always remind patients to keep taking their medications and to see their doctor as soon as possible so that they can be declared healthy.

Going to the doctor does not imply a lack of faith. For example, if a person does not heal when you lay hands on him, it might be highly beneficial to learn the exact medical diagnosis so that you can use that information to heal the individual.

Religious people frequently mocked Jesus and the apostles, accusing them of doing demonic acts. This is still the case today. Expect to be mocked if you take a leap of faith and begin laying hands on the sick in obedience to the Great Commission. Because atheists don't care about God's healing power because they don't believe in Him in the first place, your own Christian brothers and sisters will mock you and accuse you of doing things that are "of the devil" (speaking in tongues and so on).

Love them anyway, and don't let this discourage you, for it's a blessing when people mock you for doing obedient actions in His name (Matthew 5:11 and Luke 6:23).

Remember that our ultimate goal must always be to please God. We must not defy God because we are afraid of being shunned by our friends, family, or Christian brothers and sisters: "Do not believe that I have come to bring the world peace. I didn't come to offer peace; I came to bring a weapon. Because I've come to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law, a man's foes will be his own family."

Anyone who loves his father or mother more than I do is unworthy of me; anybody who loves his son or daughter more than I do is unworthy of me; and anyone who refuses to take up his cross and follow me is unworthy of me." (Matthew 10:34-38; Mark 10:34-38; Luke 10:34-38)

"Blessed are you when men despise you, when they reject your name as evil and exclude you and humiliate you because of the Son of Man." (Luke 6:22) If you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, try

"He cannot be my disciple if he does not despise his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters, and yes, even his own life when he comes to me. And no one can be my disciple until he takes up his cross and follows me." (Matthew 14:26-27)

"Is it now my goal to gain men's approval or God's? Is it possible that I'm attempting to please men? I wouldn't be a servant of Christ if I was still striving to please men." (Galatians 1:10)

I can't express how incredible it feels to be a part of your first healing miracle! When you see Jesus do amazing healing miracles, you'll be so enthralled that it won't matter what others say!

When you place your hands on someone who is in pain, they may reply, "I can still feel a tiny bit of discomfort there." People have a propensity to focus on the 5% of pain that remains and overlook the reality that 95% of the agony has been wonderfully relieved! Allow them to praise God for the miracle (and you, of course), and both of you to thank Jesus for allowing the remaining 5% of the anguish to fade away.

Thanking Jesus again seems to result in additional healing. Even before anything happens, thank Jesus for the healing.

It is highly beneficial to be immersed in the Scriptures where Jesus gave us the authority to cure the sick, because this keeps our faith strong. Review the handouts in this Healing Book on a regular basis to keep the knowledge fresh in your mind, and continue to study biblical healing examples so that the Holy Spirit can reveal new things to you.

The Bible declares that "the word of God is living and active" (Hebrews 4:12), but in order for the Word of God to be active in your life, it must be living in you! (See, for example, Joshua 1:8, Proverbs 4:20-22, Psalms 1:1-3, and 119:10-20.)

Continue to mature spiritually so that God may place greater trust in you and give you more authority to employ His power.

Because Christianity is a relationship and a way of life that you live 24 hours a day, walk in boldness and confidence in the Lord. Never do anything for the Lord half-heartedly! (See Colossians 3:23–24.) Don't wait for God to call you to a healing ministry; He already has! Don't let fear hold you back. Don't put any restrictions on God.

Speak authoritatively and as though you mean what you're saying. Don't get disheartened; with practice, experience, and learning, you'll improve. "I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me," the apostle Paul stated (Galatians 2:20).

Dead people don't mind if they appear silly if someone isn't healed, and they don't have any personal objectives, so they are open to the Holy Spirit's leading.

Above all, love the individuals you come across! Get them healed and saved, and offer Jesus plenty of chances to be glorified, praised, and honored!

May the Lord generously bless your life with fruitfulness for the Kingdom as you continue His evangelism and healing work, as well as training others to do the same, until He returns.

In Jesus' Name, YOU have the power to heal the sick!

The Bible bears witness to this.

God's Word provides us with a roadmap. The Word can't make the void go away. The goal of this book is to give you some suggestions about what to do and say to cast out demons and perform amazing healing miracles for the Lord's glory.

I'm not attempting to demonstrate that I have any kind of magical capacity to heal people (I don't; it's all Jesus). What I'm trying to get across to you is that if you're a Christian, you have the ability to heal the ill in Jesus' name!

You don't need any proof from me since you already have plenty from the Bible (as I attempt to establish in this book) and because when you step out in faith and begin laying hands on the sick, you will almost certainly witness many healing miracles.

You are free to document as much proof as you desire! I don't want to persuade you that I've witnessed miracles; I want you to witness miracles!

They discovered that the more explicit we are in our healing commands, the more probable the person will be healed. Consider Jesus' faith, which enabled Him to say to a person, "Be healed."

However, because we are human and flawed, and most of us only have a modest amount of faith, healing can be more effective when our limited faith is "focused" more specifically.

How to Care for the Sick

This chapter will return you to the fundamental premise of laying hands on ailing people. I believe that if you implement some of the ideas in this book, you will begin to witness some astounding healing miracles right before your eyes! I'm not claiming that everyone you lay hands on will be cured, and that not everyone who is healed will be healed right away, but if you stay loyal, you'll witness God confirm His Word as amazing healings begin to happen for the Lord's glory.

In this section, I'll go through some of the various healing procedures that have been developed over time.

When ministering to others, it is critical that we listen to the Holy Spirit, but this does not guarantee that we will always be able to hear from Him. So, what do we do if someone needs to be healed but the Holy Spirit isn't giving us any specifics? Imitate the apostle Paul as he imitates the Lord, and other New Testament authors essentially expressed the same thing (1 Corinthians 4:16, 1 Thessalonians 1:6, Hebrews 6:12, 13:7, 3 John 1:11), indicating that imitating fruitful Christians as role models is absolutely Scriptural. If the Holy Spirit isn't giving us precise instructions when we lay hands on someone and we're stumped, we can try saying or doing something that someone else said or did during a supernatural healing. That is the primary motivation for describing the methods that others utilize to successfully minister healing.

These practices are not intended to be used as "rituals," and they are not required for divine healing to take place. It turns out, though, that being able to watch a person's arm grow out (for example) in order to see if the miracle is happening and when the healing is complete is pretty useful. If other people are able to witness the miracle, it blesses them and strengthens their faith, and it gives God more honor and credit. Not to mention the eyewitnesses' testimonials as they eagerly spread the news with their families and friends. So it's fine when other people can see the miracle (unless the Holy Spirit orders you to do the healing discreetly), and there's nothing wrong with people witnessing miraculous healings because it happens all over the Bible.

However, all honor must be given to God, and the one performing the laying-on of hands must never be arrogant.

Remember that different Christians minister healing in different ways, and that the Bible does not contain a "recipe" for healing. The following approaches are only a few of the ways that the Hunters minister healing, and many others (including myself) have witnessed tremendous miracles as a result of their use. Other Christians teach other methods for curing the ill, and they witness miraculous healings. It's critical to pay attention to the Holy Spirit, but if we don't hear anything unique, we might occasionally see miracles just by copying what others have done.

So here are some things you may do and say to help someone who is in need of healing: "Arms and Legs" is a book on growing out your arms and legs.

Because some muscles or bones are broken or out of line, one arm often seems to be shorter than the other when people have upper back or shoulder problems. You may see the shorter arm expand out until it is the same length as the other arm when God heals the back or shoulder. According to statistics, up to 80% of the population has experienced back pain or injury, thus this technique will be useful on a regular basis.

Make sure the person is standing straight with his toes facing forward and his toes are lined up with each other (so his body isn't bent).

Then have him stretch his arms and fingers as far as they will go in front of him. Hold his fingers straight out in front of him, palms facing each other. Allow him to place his hands together, then bend his elbows and look at his fingertips while keeping his palms squeezed together to determine if his arms are the same length. Extend his arms and fingers out in front of him once more, palms facing each other but not touching. The point of having him stretch his arms out like this is to allow you to see the miracle as the shorter arm grows longer, as well as to let you know when Jesus has finished curing you.

Place your hands beneath his so that his palms are resting on yours.

The Holy Spirit's power will flow through your hands into his arms to heal him (you may not feel the power flowing through you, but I occasionally notice that my hand or the other person's hand has gotten quite hot). You may emphasize that his arms will most likely become fatigued, but it's a minor price to pay for healing.

Say something along these lines to order the healing (just say it quietly but authoritatively and expectantly, and remember to keep an eye on his fingertips): "I assume authority and dominion over this back and shoulder area in Jesus' Name." In Jesus' Name, I command the neck and back to be healed, the shoulders to be even, and everything to fall back into place.

In Jesus' Name, I command the muscles, nerves, ligaments, and tendons to be healed and to return to their proper position, length, and strength. In Jesus' Name, I rebuke all pain and demand it to leave, as well as all stiffness and immobility. In Jesus' Name, I demand the vertebrae, discs, and shoulders to line up exactly and for everything to be healed. Jesus, thank you!"

Before you finish saying this, the shorter arm may grow out. If not, tell the person to thank Jesus and to continue to thank Him and to give God praise and glory while commanding the arm to grow out. Keep an eye on the fingertips as the arm grows out, because I generally see the shorter arm grow till it is longer than the other arm, then reverse and get shorter until both arms are the same length.

Isn't it strange that you may demand healing in this way? When you mandate healing, you're not commanding Jesus or the Holy Spirit to do anything; you're simply obeying Scripture. Let's look at a couple of examples of the term "rebuke" to demonstrate how a rebuke can be a command or an order. When Jesus rebuked Peter, notice what He said: "But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter." He exclaimed, "Get behind me, Satan!" (Matthew 8:33)

What was Jesus' rebuke to Peter like? He gave the order, "Get behind me, Satan!" A rebuke is a command or an order (in this case, Jesus was rebuking the devil for implanting a concept in Peter's mind).

Jesus rebuked evil spirits several times, and Mark 9:25 provides us an example of how He did so: "When Jesus observed a multitude running to the scene, he rebuked the evil spirit." "I demand you, you deaf and mute ghost, come out of him and never enter him again," he said. (Matthew 9:25)

What was Jesus' method of rebuking the demon? "I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again," he said. To rebuke something or someone is to give an order or a command, and both of these examples of the term "rebuke" employ the same Greek word.

Here's the point I want to make now that we know what the word "rebuke" means. When Jesus healed a woman's fever, he used the same Greek term for "rebuke": "So he bent over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her." She leaped to her feet and proceeded to serve them." (Luke 4:39)

An order or command is what it means to rebuke something. The woman's fever subsided after Jesus placed his hands on her (Matthew 8:15). When we lay hands on someone, we must speak to the fever and demand it to go away, just as Jesus did with the fever. It's worth noting that Jesus dealt with the fever in the same way He dealt with the demon (Mark 9:25 above). Sickness was an enemy to Jesus, and it should be to us as well!

"But Jesus is the Son of God," you might be thinking at this moment. "Of course He could command healing." That does not give us the authority to do what He did!" But, oh, Jesus gave us the authority and obligation to do what He did!

"Believe me when I say I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or at the very least believe the miracles themselves." Anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing, I assure you. Because I am going to the Father, he will perform even greater things. And I will accomplish anything you want in my name so that the Father may be glorified through the Son. You may request anything in my name, and I will fulfill your request. You will obey what I command if you love me." (Matthew 14:11-15)

Anyone who has trust in Jesus will be able to achieve the same miraculous miracles He did! If you're a Christian, He's talking about you, so fill in your name in the blanks and reread the chapter. Here's how it appears with my name in it: "At the very least, believe in the miracles themselves." Bill will do what I've been doing, to tell you the truth. Because I'm going to the Father, Bill will perform much bigger things than these. Bill will heed my commands if he loves me." (Matthew 14:11-15)

Try reading it out loud with your own name! Jesus taught that if we love Him, we will obey Him, and that believers will do the same amazing things He did. Aren't we labeling Jesus a liar if we refuse to believe what He said?

In reality, Jesus said that if we have faith, we may demand things and expect them to happen: "

He went up to a fig tree along the road and found nothing but leaves on it. "May you never grow fruit again!" he said to it. The tree perished almost immediately. The disciples were astounded when they witnessed this. They wondered aloud, "How could the fig tree wither so quickly?" "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not question, you can not only do what was done to the fig tree, but you can also say to this mountain, 'Go, hurl yourself into the sea,' and it will be done," Jesus said. You will obtain whatever you ask for in prayer if you believe." (Matthew 21:19-22; Luke 21:19-22)

The fig tree withered as soon as Jesus gave it a command. Then He assured His disciples that they, too, could accomplish it! He went on to suggest that they could even demand a mountain to fall into the sea and it would happen! Jesus told the disciples in the Great Commission to continue making new disciples, teaching us new disciples to obey all of these things as well (Matthew 28:18-20). Was Jesus suggesting that we go out and rearrange mountain ranges, causing all fig trees to wither and die? No, Jesus was teaching us ideas that will help us understand how faith works.

After claiming that we may command a mountain to fall into the sea, Jesus said in the preceding paragraph that if we believe, we shall receive whatever we ask for in prayer.

In other words, when the mountain is removed after we command it, we have received what we prayed for.

"I tell you the truth, if you have faith as tiny as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move," Jesus stated on another occasion. Nothing is going to be too difficult for you." (Matthew 17:20)

It's important to note that Jesus did not declare, "Nothing is impossible for God." Nothing will be impossible for you if you speak faithfully to your mountains, he added.

Just like we did before, try inserting your name into this passage. With my name, it looks like this: "I tell you the truth, if Bill has a mustard seed of faith, he can tell this mountain to move from here to there,' and it will. Bill will achieve anything he sets his mind to." (Matthew 17:20)

Try reading it out loud with your own name!

Do you understand what Jesus was trying to say? We are to speak to the mountains in our lives and command them, knowing that what we command will be done, as Jesus often stated. When Jesus rebuked the woman's fever in John 8, He did just that (Luke 4:39).
