hen we hear the word "magic", don't witches and wizards immediately spring to mind ? This term probably triggers something very special in each of us. While children immediately think of exciting fairy tales such as "Hansel and Gretel", "Sleeping Beauty" or "Snow White", some adults get a slight shiver down their spine because we often associate magic directly with witch hunts and the Great Inquisition.
But what are witches really?
In popular belief, women are described as witches who have magical powers and whose "magic arts" can bring harm, if not ruin, to people.
Witches, or "Wicca" (the Old English word for sorcerer; a term that has been associated with a neo-religious movement since the 20th century), stood less for healing at the time and more for dark beings that brought illness and death to people and animals. Especially in difficult times, they were quickly blamed for bad harvests or natural disasters.
Green witches live by the belief that everything is interconnected and animated. They honour nature, appreciate the cycles of life in their own unique way and see themselves as mediators between the earthly and heavenly worlds. Their magic is not only based on physical form, but rather on the knowledge that behind all the matter that surrounds us are powerful forces that are only revealed to those who are fully open to them.
Of course, there were also male counterparts back then, the supposed "sorcerers" or "earth magicians", but they cannot be compared with magicians like "Merlin".
In fact, the belief in witches and their supernatural abilities is very old and its origins date back to pre-Christian times. It was only with Christianity that evil was increasingly associated with the word "witchcraft" and in the early modern period (from the 13th century) the hunts began. In Europe alone, over 50,000 alleged witches and sorcerers were burned at the stake by 1780.
The proportion of female witches at this time was estimated at 80%. The persecution of witches was a global phenomenon and the cruel killing of witches and sorcerers spanned all cultures.
According to tradition, although Christians did not officially believe in the efficacy of witchcraft and sorcery, the first death sentences were imposed as early as the 4th century AD. The Roman Curia appointed special inquisitors who travelled around the dioceses in search of witches.
Curia is an expression for the entirety of the governing and administrative bodies of the Holy See or the Roman Catholic Church.
Heinrich Kramer was probably the most famous, but also the most notorious inquisitor. He lived from around 1430 to 1505 and had countless witches sentenced to death in a very short period of time in Upper Germany alone. This was legalised with the "Bull of Witches" issued by Pope Innocent VIII (born 1432 in Genoa, died 1492 in Rome, Italy).
It was only towards the end of the 17th century, in the Age of Enlightenment, that more importance was attached to scientific knowledge than to magic and superstition. Witch trials and executions became increasingly rare and the first moral and legal concerns began to emerge. According to historical books, the last witch was executed in Switzerland in 1782, after which jurisdiction was reformed in many European countries, bringing this dark chapter to an end.
The rest of this guide will focus on the topics that are the reason why you are holding this book in your hands today. Firstly, the term "green magic" will be explained.
When we think of magic, white (positive) and black (dark) magic usually come to mind first. However, it would be too much to go into detail about these two main branches here, so in this guide we will focus exclusively on "green magic".
You have probably also heard of colour theory and already know a little about the topic of "symbolism". The meaning of the colour green stands for hope, harmony, nature (Mother Earth), stability, fertility and growth.
Green is one of the complementary colours and is a mixture of advancing yellow and receding blue. The colour green thus combines the obvious, opposing meanings of the two colours: Warmth and coldness, joy and reason, intuition and intellect as well as activity and passivity. A harmonious balance can be found in a well-balanced green colour.
As the name "green magic" suggests, it is primarily about treating nature with respect. Green witches work with spices and herbs, plants and the voluntary support of nature spirits. The use of green magic therefore goes hand in hand with the use of various plants and pursues positive intentions.
Green magic is mainly used for healing, to improve well-being and to protect against enchantments, "evil spirits" and other conditions that can throw us off balance.
Green magic has its origins in the indigenous peoples (Aborigines etc.) and the Druids. All these ancient civilisations had a profound knowledge of the plant world. These were not only used for the treatment of physical and mental illnesses, but also for magical and religious rituals.
While medicine men are spoken of in American climes, the so-called "green witches" can be found in Europe, although nowadays we tend to refer to them as herbal witches. Back then, they lived isolated in nature and used it to heal all those creatures, both human and animal, who sought their help. Nowadays, many of these healers live in the city or nearby suburbs, so that they can also find the relevant medicinal plants in their immediate surroundings on their herbal walks. They do not work exclusively as herbal witches, but often earn their living in very different professions. They are extremely versatile and do not define themselves exclusively through their work with plants and trees etc. or a particular religious belief. For them, the connection with all that is and using their abilities in harmony with nature to strengthen the immune system of those seeking help and bring healing is paramount.
Today, when we talk about utilising forces in harmony with nature, we generally understand this to mean that we make use of natural functional and herbal ingredients. However, we should not leave it at this objective perception, because Mother Nature and life itself give us the opportunity every day to gather and deepen spiritual experiences, to explore our inherent healing powers and to constantly develop them further. If we are aware of this and are prepared to recognise these opportunities and integrate them into our lives, we take responsibility for our existence and learn to shape our lives responsibly in peace and harmony with our environment. The change we are currently experiencing is not only taking place on the outside, but primarily within ourselves and is increasing our sensitivity to nature and all that is. We feel more connected to Mother Earth and the cosmos every day and learn to appreciate and love life with all its experiences, lessons and sensitivities in a whole new way.
More and more people are answering the intuitive call to rethink our holistic view of humanity and the world and to do something for the environment and our life together. We are currently experiencing an intense identification with this beautiful planet, which is our home, without digressing into any cultures of faith or religions, or praising deities. Only the respectful perception of nature and life itself and appropriate action are required in green magic.
Green witches therefore do not see our earth as a form of god or goddess, but as a living being and as a loving, giving and life-giving mother who nourishes us. They honour this all-encompassing being, identify with her and in this way can work effectively with the healing energies of the earth. The relationship of the herb witches to this planet is purely spiritual and should not be confused with religious cults. They do not believe in one God, but in the divine within each of us.
If we want to utilise the forces of nature effectively, we cannot avoid looking into geomancy. Geomancy, originally a very old term from the time of Atlantis, enables us to align our lives, both privately and professionally, with places of power, ley lines (sometimes also called "sacred lines") and planetary forces in order to achieve the best possible effect for ourselves and our loved ones. The Celts in particular were known for living strongly connected to nature and finding places that offered the best benefit for a cause. They recognised that each place not only exists geographically, but also has a spirit and a soul. With their knowledge and corresponding aptitudes, they were also able to optimise the respective space and benefits.
The word "geomancy" is made up of "geo" and "mantic", whereby "geo" is derived from the primordial goddess Gaea or Gaia - the Great Mother Earth. "Mantic" or "mantics" are certain techniques through which gifted people were able to make divinations by interpreting certain appearances and colours, etc. colours etc. If you wanted to translate "geomancy", "earth divination" would probably be the most appropriate term. Basically, it is the art of understanding and translating the language of the earth with the heart; an ability that is inherent in all of us, but has unfortunately fallen into oblivion.
The good news is that our intuitive perception can be trained at any time and, if you are interested, there are endless possibilities open to you to consciously reconnect with Mother Earth and all that is.
As old as geomancy is, it is also highly modern and is constantly evolving with mankind. The definition of this word has also changed significantly over the past few years. In 1994, for example, geomancy was still described as a holistic science of experience that endeavours to capture the energetic, spiritual and mental factors of a place and improve them through appropriate design. Since 1998, the term "geomancy" has also been used on the Internet to indicate that it also endeavours to take its identity into account in architecture, art and landscape planning.
It is now seen as an art of harmonising one's own living space according to the needs of the human soul and in harmony with nature and the respective local force. We will look at these "local forces" in more detail in the chapter on natural beings.
Feng shui, an ancient Daoist theory of harmony from China, is probably familiar to you and has strong links to geomancy. The aim of feng shui is primarily to harmonise people and their environment. This is achieved through the special planning and design of living and working spaces, as well as burial sites, landscaping (gardens) and urban planning.
The teaching of feng shui is based on various Chinese philosophical systems, such as the yin and yang doctrine, the five elements doctrine and the eight trigrams aligned with the cardinal points. Particular attention is paid to this in the respective furnishings and architecture. When implemented, feng shui has a positive effect on our private and professional success, on our health and therefore on our well-being.
The above-mentioned local power refers, among other things, to the elemental and natural beings that reside in a place. These are assigned to the following five elements :
Element fire
Salamander
Volcanoes
Element water
Mermaids
Mermaids
Nymphs (Nereids)
Sirens (the ones with the beguiling song)
Undines (virgin water spirits)
Mermen
Many people are often confused by the many terms and wonder what exactly the difference is between mermaids, nymphs, nymphs and sirens: Nymphs and mermaids are extremely friendly, helpful creatures, while sirens and mermaids are often described as malicious and cunning. They are also said to differ in their shape, where they live and their mythological origins. Here, however, the statements are rather different.
Element earth
Earth elves
Earth fairies
Fauns (also known as satyrs)
Gnome
Trolls
Dwarves
Element air
Elves
Fairies
Sylphs
Element ether
Tree devas (tree spirits)
Flower devas
Plant devas
Forest and meadow evas
Dryads (nymphs and oak trees)
Unicorns
Pegasus
The angelic hierarchies and ascended masters are also counted among the beings of the ether element. If you believe the statements of clairvoyant people, there seems to be a great variety of these natural beings. In modern esotericism, they are also referred to as elemental beings.
Even now, unfortunately only a few countries such as Ireland still consult the local natural beings before constructing bridges, buildings or roads.
The dragons, our personal friends and guardians, are so diverse that they can be categorised as different elemental beings: Ice dragons, earth dragons, fire dragons, lindworms, water dragons, etc. A total of 17 different dragon species have been counted so far.
Leylines are energy lines that form an irregular network across the earth. They are comparable to the meridians (energy pathways) of the human body, through which subtle energies flow. The lines can be regarded as force fields with a gentle effect, although the clairvoyants among us would define this somewhat differently.
Leylines, like veins in our bodies, run through the entire earth. They can be up to 25 metres wide, which is why they are often referred to as force fields. Even if the corresponding maps give the impression that these lines run in a straight line, they actually adapt to the respective landscape. They branch out, form curves and are deflected by high-voltage power lines. When two or more ley lines intersect, powerful places can be found at this point, which were and still are consciously occupied by ecclesiastical institutions such as Freiburg Minster, monasteries, cathedrals (such as Notre Dame) and sacred buildings, as well as important castles, Celtic places of worship and numerous obelisks around the world.
The energy-rich power locations can be tracked down with the help of rods, tensors (one-handed rods) and now also with electronic aids, using devices that detect changes in the magnetism and gravity of these sacred lines. Hundreds of years ago, they were clearly perceptible and detectable. Over the last few centuries, however, their powers have been visibly weakened by the earth's magnetic field. As the knowledge of these ley lines was considered secret knowledge in the Middle Ages, there are still few written records of them today.
Lithopuncture can strengthen the energy flows of the ley lines, similar to acupuncture in living beings.
Lithopuncture refers to the setting up and precise alignment of stone pillars.
The imposing stone rows of Carnac (northern France) are an example of this.
Rows of stones from Carnac (northern France)
This includes the famous Stonehenge site, which was built over 4,000 years ago and is located near Amesbury, England. Five ley lines meet at this special, mystical place.
Stonehenge
These extremely rare constellations can also be found in Aachen, Ippingen and Karlsruhe (Germany). Other world-famous places of power are the Aztec city of the gods, the black monolith in Mecca, Teotihuacan (central highlands of Mexico), the pyramids of Giza and Machu Picchu (a well-preserved ruined city in Peru).
Anyone who visits such a place will quickly realise that the energies emanating from these force fields make it easier to relax and concentrate. The inner peace that comes with this makes contact with yourself quicker and more intense and meditations carried out in such places are noticeably deeper.
Now that we have dealt with the topic of leylines in detail, the guide will show you how you can implement geomancy and thus work with a partial aspect of green energy. Let's start this chapter with a quote from Paul Devereux, a world-renowned author, researcher, artist and, above all, "Ley Hunter":
"Ecology without geomancy is like a body without a soul."
Paul Devereux is mainly concerned with archaeological topics such as archaeoacoustics, the anthropology of consciousness, environmental psychology and unusual geophysical phenomena.
Archaeoacoustics is the study of sound at archaeological sites.
The basic idea of archaeoacoustics is to increase the energies of places of power, e.g. through tones and polyphonic sounds, and thus perform a form of urban healing, especially in heavily populated areas. Of course, you could also do this on your own, but in a spiritually balanced group the effect would be multiplied many times over.
If this task initially seems "too big" for you, you can also start with this form of realising green magic on a small scale. Nowadays in particular, living and working is increasingly understood as a holistic process. In geomancy, every house, every building is seen as an independent being and therefore has its own soul. This is characterised by the surrounding nature, by the people who live or work in them, as well as by their feelings, thoughts and actions.
This means that our own home is constantly in mutual resonance with its inhabitants and touches our body, mind, soul and the natural world around us.
By consciously handling this knowledge and acting accordingly, we gently influence the soul of the places where we live and work. Whether we implement feng shui in our living and working spaces, as briefly mentioned above, find the best place for us to work and sleep with the help of a geomancer or on our own, or design our gardens in consultation with the natural beings living there, even the smallest inclusion of natural laws and natural beings has a huge positive impact on our lives.
As you know, our body consists of 70 to 80 % water. It is only with age that the ratio begins to fall to 50 %. Experience has shown that we can manage without food for several weeks, months, even years, but without water we can usually only manage for a few days at most.
Dr Masaru Emoto (born on 22 July 1943 in Yokohama, Japan, and died on 17 October 2014) was a Japanese parascientist and water researcher. Since the early 1990s, he had been studying the subject of water and believed that we could influence water through our thoughts, feelings and words. He conducted many experiments to prove that water, for example, when it is in a glass bottle labelled "Thank you", absorbs and stores this positive information and transmits it to all living creatures that then consume this water. He labelled a second water bottle with the word "war". He then froze both bottles, photographed the resulting ice crystals and made the following discovery: both the appearance of the respective ice crystals and the flavour of the water (after thawing) were completely different! Many experiments followed and over the years Dr Emoto wrote many books about his life-changing discoveries. He became a role model for many world-famous inventors such as Johann Grander and Viktor Schauberger, who used his research results to revitalise and market water accordingly.
Johann Grander, born on 24 April 1930 in Tyrol, died on 24 September 2012, was an Austrian natural scientist and visionary and is considered the "discoverer of water revitalisation". At the age of 49, he gave up his job as an entrepreneur and followed his calling. He devoted himself to his experiments with great passion and this led him to develop a process known as "water revitalisation". This involves improving the structure of the water to create a healthy environment for beneficial microorganisms. This process is known as "Grander technology". Revitalised water is often referred to as informed, structured or vitalised water and is also used in a number of healing applications.
Viktor Schauberger, born on 30 June 1885 in Holzschlag in Schwarzenberg am Böhmerwald, died on 25 September 1958 in Linz, was an Austrian forester who looked after the forests of the Totes Gebirge (a mountain range in the Northern Limestone Alps in northern Styria and southern Upper Austria). As a naturalist, he was particularly interested in water and one day made a decisive discovery:
The discovery of Viktor Schauberger:
He observed how large stones suddenly detached themselves from the bottom of a body of water and floated to the surface in a circular motion. He was completely surprised, as these stones must have been very heavy in size and would not normally have been able to float or float in the water. He got to the bottom of the phenomenon and realised that the stones in question were egg-shaped and, just like some fish species, were seemingly lifted and carried upwards with ease by an energy vortex, the "hyperbolic vortex", within the water.
In case you cannot imagine this at all, you will find below the description of two experiments that you can carry out yourself. This way you can simply try it out for yourself.
Water experiment #1
Take a tall container, fill it with water and carefully place a fresh, raw egg in it, which will slowly slide to the bottom. Now start to swirl the water with the handle of a wooden spoon or another tool and watch what happens: The egg slowly floats to the top!
Water experiment #2
For this experiment, you should either have pure spring water or a good water filter. Fill a glass carafe with this water and swirl it for at least 60 seconds. This will revitalise your drinking water, make it taste noticeably better and do your body a big favour. Just give it a try!
The magic that surrounds us is infinite and can be found in all the elements of life. We have already looked in detail at the ley lines in the earth and the vitalised water. However, the green witches and wizards probably pay the most attention to plants and trees. With a little experience, a visit to various herbal walks, helpful reading and a lot of love for life itself, you too will find it easy to utilise the magical powers in harmony with nature.
Nature itself gives us the most valuable ingredients when it comes to creating healing herbal blends for teas and incense. This requires a great deal of knowledge, a love of Mother Earth and her gifts and the desire to enter into a spiritual connection with the plants based on gratitude, joy and respect. So before we turn to the next chapter on herbal recipes, and here specifically to oils and herbal teas etc., we will first look at comprehensive herbalism. This will make it easier for you to deal with all the other topics step by step.
A large number of typical witchcraft herbs belong to the nightshade family, the solanaceae, as they are technically known. These plants also include so-called intoxicants such as tobacco or belladonna. Many of them contain alkaloids, atropine or scopolamine and were or are used to produce healing ointments and other supportive remedies. One of the oldest hallucinogens is probably the well-known red fly agaric (Amanita muscaria). The alkaloids of most psychoactive plants, such as henbane, datura and belladonna, are absorbed through the skin. They enter the bloodstream in this way and generally lead to states of intoxication. Among other things, they can give a feeling of flying, which is why it is still believed today that witches can travel around on their brooms.
To begin with, you will now find a brief explanation of the most important ingredients mentioned above, as they are repeatedly mentioned in the individual herbs:
Alkaloids
have a proven physiological effect on our organism and are therefore frequently used in the production of medicines. They have a stimulating and euphoric effect, but can also be harmful if the dosage is too high and are therefore primarily toxic plant substances. They can be found in many stimulants, such as caffeine or nicotine.
Atropine
is a very toxic alkaloid that occurs naturally in nightshade plants such as belladonna, datura and angel's trumpet. It has a strong effect on the autonomic nervous system and is said to have inhibitory properties. For this reason, this active ingredient is mainly used in hospitals in preparation for anaesthesia. However, it is also used in the short-term treatment of acute cardiac arrhythmias associated with a slowed heartbeat.
Atropine relaxes the muscles in the gastrointestinal tract, bile ducts and urinary tract and is therefore also used to treat gastrointestinal cramps, cardiac arrhythmia, poisoning and to dilate the pupils during eye examinations. Atropine also inhibits the secretion of saliva, sweat and tear fluid. It reduces the formation of mucus in the lungs and can increase the heart rate. This is referred to as a positive chronotropic (pacemaking) effect.
Scopolamine
