The How To

Going Vegetarian

It is not as difficult as you might think to remove meat from your diet.

It takes a little planning, a little discipline, and a little focus.

You move in small steps set to your personal eating habits.

Too many people who want to stop eating meat often try to go ‘Cold Turkey’; that is to suddenly quit eating meat. This is a bad idea. It is too much of a physical shock to your system, produces cravings, and a feeling of being deprived.

Unless you only eat meat once or twice week and or don’t particularly care for it, the liklihood of failure by this instant removal of meat from your diet, is real.

When you fail, you may never attempt again, assuming you can’t.

Most people who try the ‘instant’ method quit because they assume they can’t. Their attempt to remove meat from their diet links with feeling punished, with being full of gas, of being hungry all the time, in short, going vegetarian becomes a form of water boarding.

As they felt these negative things when they tried their ‘cold turkey’ meat removal, they never try again.

If you move slowly it causes no great disruption in your life. You don’t fill up with gas. Your transition is painless, smooth, and you simply don’t want meat and wouldn’t eat it if you were hungry.

You want to be successful, you want to stop eating meat, and this is how you do it.

Step One

Make a list of everything you eat during a two week period. Every meal, every snack. Every drink. You need to know what your diet really is before you start to change it.

You need to know exactly how much meat you consume in a week. You may find, during your investigation, that you have three meals a day and four snacks a week and of the meals, fourteen are meat, and of the snacks, two are meat.

You may be totally unaware of how much meat you eat. You may not recall grabbing that burger or hot dog, or beef patty, without even considering what you are eating.

Until you begin to list everything that you are eating now, day by day for two weeks, will you have an actual portrait of your consumption.

Once you have your list, then you can begin to change your habits.

Step Two

Give yourself one full year to remove meat and all meat dishes from your diet. Do not remove dairy if you can eat dairy, and do not remove fish, if you eat fish. Leave those items until the very end.
