«During War World War II, Italy fought on the side of Germany, but in July 1943, the country was invaded by the Allied Forces. The invasion led to the collapse of the Italian fascist regime and the fall of Mussolini. In September 1943, Italy surrendered, but the country remained a battlefield for the rest of the war. As the Allied Forces moved up from the south of Italy, they still faced the opposition of loyalist Italian fascist and German Nazi soldiers. At the same time, many Italian partisans joined the resistance movement, supported the Allied Forces, and fought against the fascists and Nazis. The hostilities ended on May 2, 1945. Nearly half a million Italians (including civilians) died fighting for freedom. The following story is an episode that took place in 1944».
