Lent is a special season in the Christian calendar. It is a time when we slow down, think deeply, and prepare our hearts for Easter. For forty days, Christians around the world remember the love of Jesus, reflect on His sacrifice, and grow closer to God.
But Lent is not only for grown-ups.
Children can grow in faith too. In fact, some of the most beautiful, honest prayers come from young hearts.
This devotional was created especially for you.
Over the next forty days, you will walk step by step toward Easter. Each day includes a short Bible verse, a simple message to help you understand it, a question to think about, a prayer to guide you, and a small challenge to put your faith into action. These daily moments are designed to help you learn how to love like Jesus, forgive like Jesus, and trust God in every situation.
Lent is not about being perfect. It is about growing.
Sometimes you may feel brave. Sometimes you may feel unsure. Sometimes you may miss a day—and that is okay. What matters most is your desire to know Jesus more and follow Him faithfully.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to read along, talk through the reflection questions, and pray together. These forty days can become a meaningful time for families to connect with God and with one another.
As you begin this journey, remember this:
God loves you.
Jesus walks with you.
And every small step of faith matters.
Let’s begin.
This devotional is designed to guide you through the forty days of Lent in a simple and meaningful way. Each day offers a short reading that will help you grow in faith and prepare your heart for Easter.
You may choose to read one devotion each day beginning on the first day of Lent and continuing through Easter. Some families prefer to read in the morning before the day begins. Others may find it helpful to read together in the evening. Choose a time that allows you to slow down, listen carefully, and reflect without rushing.
Each daily devotion includes five parts:
A Bible Verse: A short passage from Scripture to read and remember. You may want to say it out loud or write it down to help you learn it.
A Devotional Thought: A brief message that explains the verse in a way that is easy to understand and apply to everyday life.
Think About It: A reflection question to help you pause and consider what God may be teaching you.
Let’s Pray: A simple prayer to guide your conversation with God. You can pray the words written or speak your own from the heart.
Lenten Challenge: A small action step to practice what you have learned. These challenges are meant to help you live out your faith in practical ways.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to participate alongside their children. Reading together, discussing the reflection questions, and praying as a family can make this season especially meaningful.
If you miss a day, do not be discouraged. Simply continue with the next devotion. Lent is not about perfection; it is about progress and drawing closer to Jesus.
As you use this devotional, ask God to help you grow in kindness, courage, patience, and love. Small, faithful steps each day can lead to lasting spiritual growth.
May this book become a guide, a companion, and a reminder that God is always near.
What Is Lent?
Lent is a special season in the Christian year when believers prepare their hearts for Easter. It lasts for forty days and begins on Ash Wednesday. During this time, Christians remember the forty days Jesus spent in the wilderness, where He prayed, fasted, and trusted God.
Lent is a season of reflection. It is a time to slow down and think about how we are living. Are we showing kindness? Are we telling the truth? Are we loving others the way Jesus taught us? These weeks give us the opportunity to grow in faith and draw closer to God.
Many Christians choose to give up something during Lent. This might be a favorite snack, extra screen time, or another small comfort. Giving something up helps us practice self-control and reminds us to depend on God. Others may choose to add something meaningful, such as praying more often, reading the Bible daily, or doing extra acts of kindness.
Lent is also about repentance. Repentance means turning away from wrong choices and turning back toward God. It is a time to say sorry when we make mistakes and to ask for God’s help to do better. God’s forgiveness is always available, and Lent reminds us of His mercy.
Most importantly, Lent prepares us for Easter. It helps us understand the love and sacrifice of Jesus in a deeper way. As we walk through these forty days, we remember that Jesus gave His life for us and rose again so that we could have new life in Him.
Lent is not meant to make us feel sad all the time. It is a season of hope. It reminds us that even when life feels hard, God is working. The journey through Lent leads to the joy of Easter morning.
As you begin this season, remember that Lent is about growing closer to Jesus—one faithful step at a time.
