Chapter One

Vanessa sighed as she slid onto the barstool and waved over the bartender. She desperately needed a glass of wine after such a long day listening to monotonous lecturers tell her all about the newest, hottest technology in the nursing industry. She was sure some of it was exactly as they described, but with the way they described their products, she couldn’t stay awake long enough or focus enough to pay attention and find out. All she wanted was out of those conference rooms and onto a barstool. Her feet were killing her, but not as much as her ass from being stuck in that insufferable hard back chair, bent over a skinny table that barely offered her enough room to take notes—if she had been interested in taking notes, that is. She hadn’t been, of course. Taking notes wasn’t really the reason she came to these trade shows, even though her company footed the bill, so she could enhance her knowledge and their business. She took enough notes to keep them satisfied—and fooled—so they would send her to the next one.

Her cell phone rang as she ordered a glass of Merlot. Sliding it out of her purse, she slid the green button to answer, smiling as she lifted the phone to her ear. “I thought I was calling you?” she asked into the phone.

“What can I say? I’m impatient. I missed my wife.” She could hear the smile in her husband’s voice, which brought a smile to her lips as well. “How’d it go?”

“Boring as usual,” she said as the bartender set her wine in front of her. “I sneaked out as fast as I could. My back is killing me from those asinine chairs.”

She heard him chuckle into the phone. “I assume you’re already at the bar having a glass of wine?”

He knew her all too well. Well, as far as she would allow him to know her, anyway. There was one thing she kept to herself. “The bartender just set my glass in front of me as a matter of fact,” she said, reaching for the glass and pulling it closer. “And I’m about to take my first relaxing sip.”

“Any other plans after enjoying that glass?” Mike asked.

“Ordering another one,” she said with a giggle. Then she took a deep breath. “I’ll probably grab a quick bite to eat and then take a shower and climb into bed. Tomorrow is another long day of the same boring shit. I swear, after a while, everything sounds the same.”

Mike laughed harder. “Well, maybe you should have three glasses of wine then?” he suggested. “You know, to fortify yourself for the droning presentations you have to endure tomorrow. Hell, have it for breakfast.”

She laughed as she nodded. “You’re probably right. I’ll call you after my shower.”

“Enjoy your dinner,” he told her just before he said he loved her and hung up.

Vanessa said she loved him as well just before the phone went dead. Love had never been their issue, however. No, their issue had always been more of a physical nature. Vanessa needed more than Mike could give her in all ways physically, which is why she attended these trade shows. They were more than information and boring lectures. They were full of others who needed just as much extra attention as she did, and she could always count on someone approaching her before she finished...

“Is this seat taken?” the deep voice asked as a dark-haired man leaned over the back of the empty stool to face her.

...her first glass of wine. She turned and smiled, unashamedly raking the man with her gaze. Thick arms, broad shoulders, strong fingers. Yes, these shows were definitely a smorgasbord of hot, hungry men. “No, actually it’s not,” she said, batting her eyelashes at the man. “Please, join me.” She swiveled on her stool, aiming her skirt-clad legs toward the dark-haired man. Her skirt rose to just above her knees, revealing her tanned legs, legs she already hoped this thick specimen of manhood would spread later.

The man slid onto the barstool, holding out his hand to shake hers. “I’m Brad,” he said, smiling. “Are you here for the trade show?”

She lifted her glass, but didn’t take a sip yet. “I am,” she said with a sigh. “It just seems a little more tedious this year than last. I’ve had to keep myself from falling asleep several times. You?”

He ordered a whiskey neat before turning back to face her, his smile brightening up her night already. God, she hoped he possessed the guts to go for what she craved. “I’m one of the boring, tedious presenters who’s putting you to sleep,” he told her, grinning as he raised his eyebrows at her. He then laughed as he dipped his head a little.

Vanessa protested and apologized, but Brad held up his hand to stop her, his thick, powerful hand. “It’s all good,” he assured her. “Trust me, I find these events as tedious as you do.” His grin transformed into more of a sultry smile as he glanced down at her ample breasts, the creamy globes pushing their way over the neckline of her top. “I actually only come to these events for the... um, networking that happens afterward.”

Vanessa felt herself grinning back at him. “Oh, that’s why I come as well. I endure the tedious days, so I can enjoy the nights.”

He slid closer to her, one hand sliding along the bar, closer to hers as he leaned in a little. “Perhaps we can help each other forget the day and enjoy the night.”

Vanessa slid her hand over Brad’s, lightly caressing his long, thick fingers. Her pussy dripped as she thought of how those fingers would feel plunging inside of her aching valley. “I think we can definitely help each other enjoy our night.” She lifted her wineglass, smiling around the rim just before she took a small sip. She would definitely enjoy her night, she thought, as she glanced down at the bulge already forming in the front of Brad’s slacks. This trade show just perked up—in more ways than one, it seemed.
