Foreword

Iam honored to introduce this remarkable book, a testament to the power of prayer, understanding, support, and hope. Each chapter will uplift and inspire you to reach new heights.

The author, Vickie Callair, truly exemplifies the “PUSH” mantra. Throughout our twenty plus year friendship, I have watched her walk into her purpose while encouraging others to do the same. Her drive and work ethic are unmatched, yet it is her desire to help others succeed is most admirable. Her patient demeanor, yet powerful drive commands attention. When Vickie speaks, you’re drawn in to listen.

Vickie is very knowledgeable, arguably one of the smartest people that I know. As you read her resume or biography, her credentials are quite impressive. It’s a testament to her being a lifelong learner. Even if she doesn’t know something initially, she will research and self-educate in a short window of time to ensure she has a working knowledge that she can articulate to others.

Sometimes I quietly wonder, “How does she do it all?” Over the years, she’s worn many hats from mother, instructor, business owner, project manager, board member and countless others.

Her most important role as mom is a full time position. With her unwavering love for her children, she prioritizes their well being, actively supports their countless extra-curricular activities while juggling her professional goals. While being an incredibly busy career mom, her number one priority is her family. She’s built a very successful business and continues to reach milestones all while giving back to her community. I am extremely excited to see her add New York Times bestselling author to her many titles.

Several years ago, I found myself disappointed, discouraged and feeling defeated. I had just failed the Project Management Professional Certification exam. Vickie swooped in and helped me to remove the negative emotions that were holding me back and to navigate a game plan to successfully pass the exam. She provided countless hours of coaching, mentoring and study aids to help me prepare. Four weeks later, I passed the exam on my second try. I attribute my success to the “PUSH” provided by Vickie.

As I transitioned my career from corporate to full time entrepreneurship, one of my biggest cheerleaders, supporters and advisors was Vickie Callair. As you may imagine, this transition is not easy. Vickie openly shared with me the highs, the lows, lessons, and experiences to help cultivate a solid foundation for my business.

There are so many days that you question your purpose, your why, and if it’s easier to just stay in your comfort zone and give up when the going gets tough. Vickie taught me that in those moments that we have to push through to reach our goals and next level of success. I am blessed to have her as a trusted mentor, accountability partner, and sister-friend.

This book is a reminder of the resilience that we truly possess if we search within ourselves. Throughout the chapters, the author outlines relatable application points to keep you engaged and motivated. You can win, you can succeed, and your story doesn’t end with a no or one bad day. Knowing that if we take that leap of faith to continue on, will only propel your growth and progress.

I encourage you to immerse yourself in this book with an open mind and spirit. Remember your why and use that as your motivation to push forward to greater heights.

With admiration,

Tisha Lowe

Introduction

OMG!!! It is 5am already. But that’s okay… because I thank God for His grace and mercy; for waking me up and giving me the opportunity to be a better Vickie TODAY. Although I am thankful, this is the third time I’ve hit the snooze button on my blaring alarm. What is going on with me? I slept like a baby, despite waking up every 2 hours to use the bathroom. I really need to leave the coffee alone….Nah, I love my coffee and besides I must have a little guilty pleasure.

I have committed to drinking only one cup of coffee per day. However, some days I renege on my resolution (whether it is a new year’s resolution or me starting over with working on my short-term goals…again). I fall back into my comfort zone of sipping coffee through a straw (yes, I use a straw) because it is something that I feel like I need to help me get through the day. Notice the key words, feel like I need.

Although it is a blessing to work from home because of the flexibility and multiple benefits working remotely provides, I can have a hectic day from time to time. The helter-skelter days will require me to sip on a good ole cup of joe. When the stress builds up, competing tasks and double-booked meetings invade my time and my mental clarity, I can’t help myself and partake in the coffee to help me knock this stuff out. Divide and conquer! Let’s go!

Back to this annoying alarm on my phone, I should really get up and get ahead of the game…. you know what they say, “the early bird gets the worm” and that’s right I want that worm! However, I just don’t feel like it. I slept well, but I am mentally drained. Therefore, I go back to sleep. Now my alarm is beeping again, and it is 6am. I just lost an hour of productivity. I think about all that I need to accomplish. My agenda is in my office, so I look at my phone calendar and I am instantly reminded…I have an early meeting this morning at 9:00. I need to get on up, check on my youngest son (who can most of the time get up without me prompting him), and get ready to take him to school by 8am. This early morning routine I must complete so that I can be prepared for what is going to be a busy day ahead.

“Okay Vickie, you clearly have work to do now. Get up and get it done”, I tell myself and begin putting things in the right perspective. I go down the list of the things to accomplish for the day. I need to make sure my son is properly prepared. I have work tasks and meetings for the day. I need to work out. I also have a few other personal and professional goals that I am working on. Therefore, I begin to pray to God for wisdom; strength to deal with the difficult colleagues, courage to face my fears, and to be a blessing to others as I go about my day.

Thank you, God for this day, another opportunity to get it right!! My motivation has resurfaced. I am pumped. I am excited. I am ready to make the most of my opportunity and…Make It Happen! I get my behind up and get moving…but first let me check out TikTok.

Do you understand the example I just shared? I had to P.U.S.H.! Often, we become discouraged, drained, or have pain that we are dealing with and can’t seem to get up, get going, face the world, or even just take a shower. It happens and if we don’t address those feelings or moments properly, we can become stagnant and hold ourselves back from the purpose God has called on our lives.

This book will help you understand the need to P.U.S.H by explaining why we should push and how we should push. The push is not for you to put yourself in a compromised position. Pushing is also not intended for you to fail or burn yourself out, but it consists of adopting the mindset of encouraging yourself to keep going. It also inspires you to take the appropriate actions to get through the tough times and to get to the next level. Therefore, we need to push. There will be times that are extremely hard. However, we still need to show up and PUSH. You will feel proud that you did.

Chapter one

Push

We live during a time when we shouldn’t overdo it, but we still need to get through it. One aspect of P.U.S.H is that we need to push to get through it. However, we also need to push to Get TO IT!!! Did you hear me? Get to it. In other words, get to accomplishing the goals you set forth and dreamt for your life… Life is short. I have learned that assessment very well with the passing of my beloved, compassionate, wise, and God-fearing mother seven years ago and my charismatic, intelligent, yet humorous father 24 years ago… He died shortly before his 55th birthday. My mother died at the age of 70, still a young age. I miss them dearly.

Nothing, I mean nothing can replace my dear sweet mother who would give her very last to help someone. Her example was amazing and I am so grateful for the life she shared with us. She is my role model. I have my father’s zany, jovial and spontaneous ways but my mom taught me, through her spirituality and her walk, how to keep going. She demonstrated to us and many who knew her, how to do the best you can and to love and support others. I miss her so much, but I am extremely thankful for her tutelage and the amazing memories I have with her in my heart.

I have learned how short life is and that there is no time to waste in moping, self-pity or laziness. I get it. Take breaks as you need. I am a firm believer of not just getting caught up with busy work and living a chaotic life, but living an intentional life, pushing to get through it and getting to it! You deserve to reap the harvest of the seeds you plant.
