Based on the real-life island of Kanto in Japan, this cool region takes loads of inspiration from its IRL counterpart. Celadon City is based on Tokyo and Vermilion City is based on the seaport, Yokahama. The varied landscape, filled with forests, mountains, islands and plains, is home to loads of wild Pokémon, from Pidgeyto Pikachu.Connected to the west of Kanto by Route 28, Johtois a more rural region, made up of smaller towns centred around the hustle and bustle of Goldenrod City. The region has a rich history when it comes to Pokémon, honouring the Tower Duo, Ho-Oh and Lugia. Johto is also home to 100 native Pokémon, including Sentret and Meganium.

While Kanto and Johto are connected by land, Hoennis its own island inspired by the real-life Japanese island, Kyushu. With lush forests, expansive deserts and lots of seaside areas to explore, there’s a huge variety of Pokémonto encounter, from Raltsto Loudred. Like other regions, there are eight gym badges for you to collect on your travels − awesome.Another huge island, Sinnoh is located in the north and is split in two by the sprawling Mount Coronet. Depending on which side of Mt. Coronet you’re on (east or west), the Sea Slug Pokémon, Shellos, is a different colour. According to legend, the Sinnoh region was the first area to be created in the Pokémon world!

While many regions in the Pokémon world were inspired by Japan, Unova takes its inspiration from New York City. The land is split by two rivers, dividing the region into strips that are connected by bridges. It looks a bit likethe real world’s New Jersey, Manhattan and Brooklyn! According to the Pokédex, there are 156 Pokémonthat originally hail from Unova, so have your Poké Balls at the ready.Inspired by Hawaii, Alola is made up of four small islands, each with their own unique environment and Pokémonguardian. While Akala Islandhas a toasty Volcano Park, Ula’Ula has the freezing Mount Lanakila. Alola was the first region in the Pokémonworld where we were able to discover regional versions of our fave ’Mon, with some Pokémon getting a whole new look!

Situated to the northof Unova, Kalos can be spotted by its unique star shape. This region is inspired byFrance, which can be seen in the style of buildings and streets in the region’s towns and cities. There are even lots of old castles and chateaus, too. Thanks to the region’s rocky shorelines and deep forests, there are loads of Pokémon to meet along the way, including Skiddo and Pancham.
kalos
This industrial island was inspired by the UK and has special Power Spots that spew energy capable of causing Pokémonto Dynamax. This region also plays host to expansive Wild Areas where you can find Pokémonin the open. There are two other sub-regions in Galar: The Isle of Armour and The Crown Tundra. Both areas have their own unique Pokémon too, like Calyrex and Urshifu.
galar
This Spanish-style region centres around the Great Crater of Paldea, located just north of the PokémonAcademy in Mesagoza. At the base of the Crater lies the mysterious Area Zero, the area responsible for the region’s Terastal phenomenon. Due to its diverse climate, Paldea also has regional variants of our fave ’Mon, including Paldean Wooper.
