Beschreibung

I have tried to portray the various elements of culture both of my locality and abroad. There has been an effort to coin new idioms. I have also developed new literary terms and ideas. I have also interpreted my readings of postmodern philosophy and I have put them into the form of literary and philosophical essays. I have also done writings of psychoanalysis. This book is an amalgamation of various things like literature, philosophy, aesthetics and culture.

Experience

I am going through the experience of trying to fill my consciousness and mingle it with Australian Aboriginal Gods, African Shamanism and Satanism. As I am plunging deeper and deeper, I feel no meaning in my encounters. Theism has become a void for me.There is no dark world inhabited by demons and demonesses. My encounter with African Shamanism came from a voodoo doll placed on the table of the UN director for communications and PR in Jakarta. The doll keeps continually haunting me. Sometimes out of desperation, I seek its blessings. The end results are very discouraging. My tryst with an Australian aboriginal God came from seeing an idol placed in my uncle's showcase as a fancy item. He had been in Australia for many years. The idol too nullifies my desires. I have embraced Hellenism. From the Philosopher Nietzsche. I came to understand  that Dionysian is a way of life.  I hope my life's fragments of wishes will catch on to something desirable. How can I make Nietzsche's Will To Power an actualization in my life. I hope I can.

Convent

Convent is a bourgeoisie term in the Indian cultural scenario. Bourgeoisie  means a cultural sophistication that only the Western World can give. Convent, from its conception of having a Catholic stature, has become a hybrid in the Indian cultural world. What does Convent mean in the cultural sense? It means to have a reputed education in a good English medium school. Why! Brides when they put matrimoninal ads write: wanted a handsome convent educated youth from an aristocratic family for a well convent  educated aristocratic girl. Convent and speaking good English have become synonymous with each other. What has been started by nuns and Fathers as convent schools have slowly drained into Hindu schools. Thus we can see Hindu convent schools with idols placed in front of it. Thus there is a Ganesh convent. There is a Saraswathi convent and so on. By the way I am not convent educated. It's a peculiar notion of Indians to associate good English with a convent.

A Dream with a Psychic Experience

This might be strange and unbelievable to readers. It happened to me in the night. I was woken from sleep with a dream. In the dream, the Gods of the chthonic world were wrestling with me. Yes, for a long time, I was fascinated with African Shamnism and Haitian voodoo. I became conscious in my body but I couldn't move it. My body was totally paralysed. I didn't know what to do. I don't know for how long it lasted. Then I thought of Christ and the dream vanished away. My consciousness could realize that I could move my hands and legs. This is really a baffling experience I had. May be at deeper level, the dream is  showing my own conflict with unresolved Christianity and Pagan religions. I don't know why that even though I was conscious, I was numb. Yes, I think this was a psychic experience.

A Charismatic Encounter

I went to a charismatic encounter as an unbeliever. The pastor was a foreigner from Kenya. He worked himself to a passionate frenzy, speaking in tongues and bursting with words. When he started the healing session, the audience went crazy. Few were spinning around like tops. Women were falling on the ground and rolling around like dogs. He started laying hands on people and people fell down flat on to th ground as if like trees uprooted by the wind. I thirsted for a religious experience but nothing happened to me. A few tears came to my eyes and they were a consolation that I had left Christianity. I went for all the sessions but nothing supernatural happened to me. After one session I went and spoke to him about how Christianity ruined African culture. He became very defensive and said he will speak to me after he prays in the night. He emphasized very much on the art giving---the sowing of your seed. For one session he said, bring your seed (money) with a hankerchief and he will annoit it. All I had was 20$ and I put it into the bucket and he annointed my hanky with oil. Nothing much has happned to my purse except being empty. From the actions of the women, I come to understand that they are more sensitive. They open their bodies to the pastor's suggestion. A Freudian explanation is that women of India are more culturally repressed and they are releasing their in-built angst. Sexually represssed feelings are sublimated into a theological experiences. One woman who was barren came rushing to me and banged me and fell down to the ground. The pastor was thundering: 'you womb will no longer be barren'. Another thing that surprises me is the gift of tongues. I do not have it but I am willing to tolerate people who have it. I remain to this day as an existential nihilist and a Hellenic Philistine Hedonist. I am more fascinated with Nietzsche's Will To Power and the Dionysian aspect of life. Count me out of Christian purity and virtue. I tolerate Christians but I am not going to be one of them, one who has a herd mentality. I want to retain and triumph my individuality.

Ruminations on the Metaphor

In this article I would like to focus on how we try to discern a metaphor. I would like to focus on the cognitional faculty associated with metaphors. Discerning a metaphor can be aesthetic, semantic,  religious, secular, cultural-historical and philosophical.

Aesthetic

A metaphor in commonday language is an adornment of words by comparison. For example, his thoughts are a flying saucer. It means his thoughts are fanciful and unrealistic. This metaphor has only one effect on the reader which is an aesthetic one, a one of pleaasure.

Semantic

Let's look at another example. He is a shady night. Here the metaphor embodies a semantic concept, meaning that he is not a straight forward person. The semantic attribute is related to a particular emotinal quality and there by casting its roots into the soil of judging human qualities .

Religious-Secular

Let's take a Biblical metaphor:' you should have faith as a mustard seed.' This is also a simile. A simile is related to the metaphor but uses like or as. Here the mustard seed takes the meaning of a super-sensible realm, beyond the aesthetic. Faith becomes dichotomized into smallness and faith in God. We can utlilize its meaning in the secular sense as the tininess of a thing, or with a religious tinge, having faith as small as a mustard seed and relying faith on a transcendental power. The hermeneutic meaning is left to the discernment of the reader.
