Asian Fetish For the English Stereotype

I am approach this article in humoresque irony. Stereotype has been reproduced and re-signified by Homi Baba a post colonial theorist. In its re-signified version he meant an Asian who was colonized and connoted as dull, pathetic, moonic----all being privileged notions of the colonizer to psychologically whip and traumatize the Asian into the imperialist fangs of rule.

In one sense the colonizer did more good than harm and that was the impartation of English language. No doubt the language has been imbibed by the colonized in fits and starts. But the colonized also became addicted to meanings of native languages and native isms and meanings became reappropriated into the vocabulary of English language. For example the word juggernaut meaning something formidable and imposing was derived from Hindu religion, from Lord Jaganath. Smilarly catamaran (canoe) comes from Tamil which means kattumaram. The culture exchange bewtween the English and the colonized was so mild, yet so forceful, unlike brutal and political hegemony. One day laudatory aspect of the colonized is that they went to the extent of being schoalrs of the Orient. But the colonized in spite of being confident about his subjetcs was anxious. Anxiety in new vein is a term introduced into post colonial literature by Prof. Baba. It meant the anxiety of the colonal white in dealing with with the colonized Asians and Africans.

After decolonization and granting of independence from colonial rule many colonies adopted English along with their vernacular as the language of communication. Thus for example we have Indian and African English which is in no way inferior to the English of the native speakers. There are well knows Indian and African writers who have won world acclaim. An example is Salman Ruhsdie whose notorious satire on Islam 'Satinic Verses' is sad to say banned in his own mother country. There are also writers of Indian origin from other decolonized countries like Nobel Laureate V.S Naipual who wrote House for Biswas and then Chinua Achebe the African writer who wrote Things Fall Apart cannot be excluded.

However all attempts to Mimic the English well, considering the glottal differences between Natives and Colonized have been in vain when it comes to colonized who articulate in English. Here it is amazing that Black Culture and Black English has become authentic in the lingual, political and cultural world of discourse. Black English just like Jazz, Blues and Gospel has become esteemed all over the World. Hwever Indian English is looked down upon by the World even by the so called Indian bourgeoisie and also by most Asians who reggard it with disdain and treat it as the language of the racial-other. Here amusingly  the Asians are conveinently clor blind [color means being colored]. Here color blind is a racial idiom for being blind and contemptous  to post colonial English. The Asian stereotype of English has failed in the artof mimicry. Mimicry is a term that was used in the cicruit of Post Colonial theory by Baba who claims that the colonized mimics the language and cultures of the Occident.

What has fails  in this mimicry is faliure of acceptance of Asian English, especially Indian English by Asian English. The Asian countries import Native speakers of UK US Cananda Australia and New Zealand to teach institutions especially in the international schools of Asia. It's tragic that Asians are rejected for the very pseudo reason that they are not native speakers.

The Asians treat their own neigbors as scum and go to great extent to practice humbuggery. It's tragic that many Asian countries are steeped in the culture of colonial discourse and are still showing their attitude of stereotype which the native colonizer wanted the his or her Asian other to be.

I give praise and adoration to all post colonial writers of English whose subversive significations have dethroned the mask of colonized English to newer modes of signification. When will the Asian steeped in the culture of colonial discourse wake up and change his or her racial attitude to Asians who articulate in English?
