Dear Children,
Welcome to the fantastic world of Slothi and his friends! Slothi is a cuddly sloth who lives in a magnificent jungle in Costa Rica. Together with his friends, Fleddi the nimble bat, Jagu the brave jaguar, Lora the sly serpent, Artista the crazy coyote, Peka the blind wild boar, and Kaka the prattling parrot, he experiences exciting adventures.
This story is about self-esteem and self-confidence. Slothi and his friends demonstrate that it is okay to be different and that we all have different strengths which we can be proud of. They learn that it is important to accept themselves and love themselves just as they are.
Throughout their adventures, Slothi and his friends get to know more about our wonderful natural world, the colourful animal kingdom, and humans. They discover secret places and meet fascinating animals from a fantasy world, such as Grito the ape and Mantara the manta ray. The colourful illustrations will take you on a journey and show you how wonderful and unique our world is.
We hope that, through the stories about Slothi and his friends, you learn how to value yourselves and to identify your own strengths. Because everyone of you is special and you deserve to be happy and confident. Have fun diving into Slothi’s and his friends’ world.
With best wishes

Hello, I’m Slothi. I’m also called Ranura, which means “sloth” in Spanish. In addition, I’m also called a Faultier in German, which means “lazy animal”. That sounds funny, doesn’t it? I’m not lazy, although the word for sloths has a special meaning. I’m a quiet creature and I live with my friends in Costa Rica’s big jungle. My home is on a wonderful tree. I don’t have a house or a beautifully decorated flat like humans. The jungle is my home, not far from Limón, a town on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast.
Friendship: Can you help me find Costa Rica on a world map? I think I live with my friends and many other wild animals on an island. Am I right? Costa Rica should be in Central America. Can you help me find it?
Did you find my home on the map? Wonderful, you’ve done well! Thank you, my dear human child.
Every day, I hang out of my tree, and enjoy eating from it. I love munching on breadfruit and pink berries, but not meat-eating bears! Sometimes, fluffy predators stare curiously at me when I creep past them. But don’t worry, I’m a true vegetarian and only nibble on plants. Breadfruit is especially delicious and gives me the energy I need to go on adventures in the jungle.
