Biographical note by the author

I want to tell you how the idea for this story came about, as it’s closely connected to the magic of Gaia.

At the end of October 2019, I was in Bagno di Romagna, a beautiful spa town nestled in the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines, renowned for its thermal waters since Roman times. That day, I decided to take a walk along the ‘Path of the Gnomes,’ located in Armina Park, a place frequented by families with children and by adults like me, eager to enjoy the peace that nature so generously offers.

I had walked those trails before, but what happened on 30 October 2019 was a completely new experience! As I strolled along the ‘Path of the Gnomes,’ pondering my life's mission—which I now understood to be connected to my passion for knowledge and nature—a gentle breeze stirred, wrapping around me and softly touching my face. It felt as though nature itself wanted to affirm the direction of my thoughts. I felt embraced and comforted by that enchanting place and its magic. In that moment of fullness and beauty, an idea emerged: why not create a fairy tale set in the forest, where a little girl named Sofia loses her way along these paths and discovers the secrets of Gaia's magic, guarded by the fantastic creatures she encounters?

As I continued to walk, the plot of the fairy tale began to take shape in my imagination, almost as if by magic. That evening, back at the hotel where I was staying, I started writing the plot straight away, continuing well into the early hours of dawn. The pen moved swiftly over my notepad—something I always carry with me, being, after all, a writer!—and the words seemed to assemble like a mosaic, each piece falling into place until, finally... Sofia’s story was there, as clear as ink on paper!

It’s surprising that until the day before, I had never considered writing a fairy tale, but life often has unexpected twists. By that time, I had learned to be adaptable and open to surprises, understanding that events seldom occur by chance—they are most often genuine calls from the soul, prompting you to pursue what it has already selected, even if your mind doesn’t yet know where it will lead. The key is to trust this call, which emerges from the depths of our being.

Over the following days, I returned to the 'Path of the Gnomes,' and each time, new ideas for episodes of the fairy tale took shape in my mind, sprouting almost like mushrooms in the autumn forest. I realised that this natural place stimulated my creativity and inventiveness, revealing yet another of Gaia's magical secrets, which Sofia, the heroine of my story, would eventually uncover.

In the years that followed, I returned to Bagno di Romagna and to the 'Path of the Gnomes,' where each visit inspired new episodes of the fairy tale, allowing it to grow and evolve as I discovered more of Gaia's secrets. I also noticed that, while immersed in the town's thermal waters, my creativity seemed to be enhanced—indeed, it was there that another of the fairy tale's characters was born. In time, I felt compelled to share these experiences and insights, prompting me to publish this story... for you, too.
