He whispered something to a passing waiter. The waiter returned holding what looked like a small brown pebble. He gave it to Dad.

“What’s that?” asked Ted.

“This” said Dad holding the pebble-like thing between his thumb and finger, “is a coffee bean. And it is more valuable than gold.”
